Great video, Wayne. Thing is, you just want the lock that presents the most effort to defeat. Reality is, if someone is really intent on getting into you house, they can probably enter at weaker points, like breaking in through another apartment or in a house, just look at the strenght of the structure that surrounds the door. I have seen people spend on high security locks for the front door an junk locks on the rear door and little latches on the basement windows, as if burglars will only attack the front door. If you don't have the rest of the house or apartment protected with even a rudimentary alarm system, forget about spending big bucks on $$$ high security front door lock. And looking at that drill trying to defeat the lock, I am thinking a simple vibration detector that would set off a blaring alarm long before the drill got even close to the steel ball bearing. A loud alarm is usually a fantastic deterrent. Also, I might suggest, if you live in an apartment any floor above the first or second floor. put in a dual sided lock (the key being needed on both sides of the door). If thieves do get in to your place thru a window or fire escape -- the weakest point in apartment dwellings -- they can't get out the front door. I also know someone who installed a 130db horn in each room. Anyone finally defeats all mechanical security systems, it is nearly impossible to think with that kind of noise -- think of standing in front of a jet engine trying to figure out what steal and how to disconnect TVs, media systems, or looking for jewelry. It's painful. Just makes sure you don't forget the disarm pin :-)

Simple way to defeat hardened steel plate protection in the face of the lock is to just slice the first 1/2” off the lock behind the hardened protection .. I use a battery operated 41/2” angle grinder. After the face is removed simply slide out the Cylinder from the front of the lock. After that the lock can be operated with a screw driver..

Id be interested to see if you could go through if you put the drill down to 500rmp and use Rocol RTD with the Colbalt bit . But most cordless drills dont have tortoise settings with the high torque of 240v drill.... but that looked like a pretty good Cordless drill... give it a shot, you would be surprised.

I actually like that Wayne has the videos set up like this. It's enough for a lay person (ie: non-locksmith) to be able to see that this lock is tough as nails, and makes the lock worth the premium, but it's not so much that a person with ulterior motives can go "get these bits and drills" and go to town. If Wayne's private channel is good for locksmiths to help people who got locked out of their ASSA's, this channel's great for showing people how much protection they can get for a small uptick in price. Keep it up Wayne! :D Jason

yep its nice. however, locksmiths hold no monopoly on the knowledge it takes to defeat locks. inwould rather see all of what the pros do to open a lock so i can defend against a scumbag doing it to my lock. or at least know what it takes to defeat a lock so i can judge appropriately what lock to use for what threat level. dead bolts regardless of what lock is operating them are pretty low security anyway, they are only going to keep out the least determined intruder if thats the only layer or barrier. why drill when prying or smashing will do the same thing trice as fast and usually with less noise? of course all wayne was doing was showing the merits of the lock itself, if its the weakest part of your security system, then you are doing pretty well.

That's security through obscurity, which is no security at all. when it comes to security the best thing to do is tell the manufacturer how their product cam be defeated and then, if they don't fix it, tell the world so that they have to fix it. It's a concept called responsible disclosure. We don't try top keep methods secret because it the good guys can figure it our so can the bad guys.

Hi Wayne thanks for your video,my niece suddenly needed my help because she forgot the keys inside her house.I thought i could easily lock pick the door knob, fashioning the stainless steel sheet and paper clips that i brought along, I was wrong, lock picking is a skill that you have to learn ! Well there should be another way,so since it was just a small house she told me that the key is just hanging at the stair case,so we resort to glass picking, removed the glass of the window and carefully 'fish for the key ,a long bamboo ang G.I. wire for the hook, what a joy after we got it before sundown, anyway lock picking is a must to learn at times like this. Thanks again Wayne and cheers to you !

I would like to know if - as of this date of July 20th 2018 -- Is the Abloy ProTec-2 still the #1 lock in the market. I know 2 years ago over 30 locksmiths have ranked the Abloy ProTec-2 the #1 lock in the world for businesses and consumers. -- Is this still true as of todays date of writing this post ..?? . Also in regards to this video, criminals no longer tackle the lock straight on anymore, they go from the sides of the locks by what police departments are reporting. Also people tend to forget that there is only 1/2 inch of wood thats protecting the house from criminals. And we need to address that part of the door entry first. we can get all the best locks in the world, but if there is only 1/2 inch of wood that can be easily broken, locks wont matter. because criminals can just kick the door in.

Love the show-and-tell videos. Manufacturer's hype & BHMA ratings aren't much help in comparing different brands of locks. I understand why you didn''t show MulTLock and Schlage Primus but could you us how they ranked in your testing compared to the ASSA with regards to drillability? In another review you said Schlage Primus was not resistant to drilling. Also Schlage sells two versions of Primus XP cylinders. The tougher one, standard in their B800 series deadbolts, meets UL437 and is claimed to be more resistant to drilling and other physical attacks than the less expensive B700 cylinder. Which one are you testing and comparing in your videos?

Your video title was how to drill out five high security locks. You didn’t drill out a single one. I don’t think you ever have. Why would you go on KZfaq and pretend to know what you’re doing. Learn first, do it. Then you’ll be qualified to teach.
