How To Drive (AND WRECK) A Model T Ford

My dad is a big fan of Model T Ford's and just acquired a second one that's hanging out in the building. There's been a few questions about it so it's time to get it out on the road, demo the crazy way you drive a Model T, and talk about wrecking them. The first mass production car was a huge hit and still looks amazing to this day, what's not to love? Just don't forget what you're driving or things will go sideways fast.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZfaq videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

Just saw this vid for the first time and loved it. I'm about the same age as your dad... I just learned to drive Model T's this year and drive one three days a week at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan which is literally accross the road from Ford's proving grounds. With 14 Model Ts and about 6 Model A's on site, many driven up to 8 hours daily, the maintenance shop has plenty of work to do! Our Ts are all electric start. Coil boxes are mounted on the passenger side of the firewall. The engines, trans and chassis are all genuine T but the starters, alternators, and batteries are modern 12 volt pieces for greater reliability and less maintenance. The ultimate bucket list job for retired car nuts... driving 100 year old Ts around an open air museum that Henry Ford created over 90 years ago. Hope your dad enjoys his T as much as we enjoy ours!!!

Dad is an amazing man. Spend as much time with him as you can, you will learn so much. People tend to believe elderly are not too smart. I think we all got schooled on how to drive that car, and I am sure he has many more interesting things to teach, even if its just stories about his past. I miss both my parents so much, my dad told me his 1st car was a model T and it was in boxes. He had to build it himself. 10cents an hour was a lot of money back then and he had to give 5 dollars for the car.

Woo! I was hoping we'd get to see a video about the Model T - seen it in the background in the last few videos. It was neat at the end to hear your Dad talking about the front suspension stuff; really good to know for anyone that might want to get one of these! I think it's amazing that part availability is so good for them. It's true that there were SO many made that they are still common. My former mechanic (retired now) has one, as does someone else a block over from us. The neat thing about driving one of those (or even a model A) is that there is NO distracted driving; you really have to stay 100% focused on what you're doing, 100% of the time.

Model Ts are so cool. My dad restored a '24 Touring in the early 60s. When he taught my brother and I how to drive it in the mid '70s, he said if you ever get in trouble press all three pedals and you'll kill the engine. Always good to have an escape plan. Thanks dad. Most fun I've ever had driving a car has been in a Model T, backroads, trails, creek beds, cliffs. The later Model Ts are typically slower, simply because they're heavier. Earlier Model Ts are lighter and a tiny bit more powerful.

My Granddad broke his wrist on a model T. He was a young boy, and the engine back fired and when it did it took the crank out of his hand and hit his wrist, breaking it. His father refused to meddle with that cantankerous machine. My Grandad was the family driver. He used to hitch up the horses to the carriage, then bring it to the house. When they bought a model T he was still expected to bring it around the house for his father. His dad refused to drive so granddad was driving at age 8 or so. His father never learned to drive a car.
