Pretty good teaching. You explained everything in easy to understand terms, which help people learn it easy. Personally, I learned how to drive on my own. I bought an older (1992) Chevy S10 truck from a used car lot that had a manual transmission (5 speed). I didn't even really know how to drive it, until I practiced when leaving the dealer's parking lot with the truck I had just bought. It was very scary at first, especially considering there was rush hour traffic in St. Petersburg, Florida, where I bought the truck. Surprisingly, I learned very quickly, and by the time I drove it to my home in Plant City, 50 miles to the east, I had gotten pretty good at shifting through the gears, and using the clutch quickly and smoothly. After a week later, I was pretty much a pro at driving a stick. My advice to a newbie, is to find someone they know that has a vehicle with a manual transmission (preferably a rear wheel drive), and have the friend (or whoever owns the vehicle) to drive the vehicle to a very large empty parking lot (a large shopping mall closed for Thanksgiving or Christmas Holiday). Try driving the vehicle and play with it until you learn it. Try not to burn out the friend's clutch though. That would take a long time to burn one out though, not unless you are a really slow learner. Even then, that would take days to do. You'd have to burn it out on purpose by letting the clutch overheat from too much continuous slippage of the clutch disc and plate. Doing it on purpose would probably only take about 15 minutes to ruin the clutch lining. Anyhow, the newbie should have a basic understanding of how a clutch works. It's important to understand how the clutch engages and disengages the engine from the drive train. Knowing how it works, should help how to learn to use a manual transmission. I bought my 1992 Chevy S10 in 1998, and in 2002, I bought a brand new 2002 Chevy S10 (with a manual transmission, of course). I sold my 1992 S10 to a friend, but I still drive my 2002 S10 to this very day. It now has 220,000 miles on the odometer. It only had 6 miles on it when I bought the truck new. At 180,000 miles, I had to finally do a full clutch job on it, but now it drives like factory fresh again. Well, that's my 2 cents worth, for whatever its worth. Just remember, if I can learn it, anybody can.

Hi, Derek. I know the majority of your subscribers already know how to drive manual, but being a newbie myself, I'd really like to see more tutorial videos. I really appreciate this video by the way. I just watched your latest upload, and please don't be discouraged! People who tell you to "walk the talk" should try going to college, getting a job, and attempt building a car. I actually love how unfiltered and candor you are. Your ego isn't sky high, either. You are a good, hard-working person with a great personality. The subscribers WILL come in time. You have caught the attention of 44k people, and will continue to do so. This is going to sound extremely trite, but the people who truly enjoy your content are the ones that matter, regardless of the sub count (even though it's just going to keep growing!). My brother has his mind set on supercharging his stage 1 04 Roush, and it really reminds me of you in that hard work (with time) will eventually pay off and go towards that build. Thank you for all that you do here on KZfaq; you're very inspirational and I look forward to more. You got this. :)

Actually driving manual has never confused me, but what should you do when slowing down or approaching a stop sign/light? Downshift into each lower gear, or just jump from whatever gear you're in to 1st?

Do you slip the clutch when you're going from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th etc. If so how much, I'm guessing less then starting out but, you still slip it but, I dont really know

I liked the video as soon as I saw the failed 360 😂 but I do appreciate this video because I’m having some troubles getting used to driving my first car (manual 1999 Honda Accord) and I really have a problem I’m not rolling backwards on a hill. I always think I’ll hit the car behind me and it scares me shitless
