I always say: "I don't go fast, I just don't brake much.". I've realized over the years that a good suspension setup (this means actually looking into ideal spring rates, dampening, alignment settings and ride height, don't slam it underground...) and good tires, will help you be faster in curves because you don't have to brake much. Also, driver mod is very important. Seat time is the best mod you car can have. Spend money on track days

let me explain the last part to those in need of clarification, why was Takumi such a driving god with his 86? exactly what you thought, he drove it every single day and mastered the weight balance and the entire behaviour of the car. Sometimes the cliche is right and it's not all about the car it's mostly about the drivers potential.

Toyota made some small motors that slap too! look at the 2zz-ge it comes in alot of Toyotas and is always paired with the c60 6speed manual, redline is at 8250rpm one of the highest revving production motors of all time. heck its even the engine lotus chose for the Elise. only has 189hp but its all aluminum block and aluminum head so its super lightweight, and it sounds really really good not many other cars will be reving over 8000. the exhaust and head were designed by Yamaha. its not popular with tuners because the factory compression ratio is 11.5:1 which is really high. its hard to turbo charge when the compression is already so high, and its only an aluminum block which is lighter but weaker than cast iron. they did a good job maxing out the engine from the factory tho, its a racecar NA 4cylinder.

@@Nub00005 I hated my celica gts. The 2zz literally destroys itself if you take a turn too quickly or Rev it to 8k, which was the whole point of the 2zz. Moved to a k24 after the 2zz destroyed itself.

The secret sauce is: exhaust (cat back if u got the $) , cold air intake , lowering springs (if u can't install them have a shop do it on a slow day for a bargain) , short throw shifter , and last but definitely the best some good max performance summer tires. These are basically all the upgrades I did on my scion tc within the first year or 2 and what a difference it made. It really helped me to understand a car and now my 17 mustang gt I can enjoy what I learned over that decade. Plus I still have and love my tc.

I love the message of this video. I personally love my slow ass 2002 Mazda Protege. Upgraded wheels tire suspension brakes short throw shifter and a couple of other modifications that make the car feel much faster than it actually is. It drives like a brand new car and it's so much fun to drive. This is basically a throwaway early 2000s car but even people with much later model like cars that have driven my car always say it is a blast to drive. They usually end up enjoying my car more than their own.

With a manual the easiest method to get that slow car fast feel in town I’ve found is simply 1st to get rolling, 2nd to accelerate, and then top gear at cruising speed. (Assuming 45-55 MPH limits) 3rd and 4th are for when I’m not late for work for a change.

Yeap, though if I really wanna go I dump more power into first, take it up to 4-5k with near full throttle at least. The momentum carries and takes you up what's then left of second considerably faster. The moment it drops into gear you take off like those little toy cars where you roll them backwards and let them shoot forward. Good shift permitting. Every car has a sweet spot in terms of what RPM to be at to go from that torque dump in 1st right up to the perfect RPM to land on a prime starting point to go up the powerband the moment you land in 2nd. Too short, and you'll jerk. Too late and you'll dog after wasting a tonna gas just to make heat. Just right, and it's like a rubber band that's been pulled back from the start releases. It's somewhere between the point of diminishing returns in 1st gear torque, and the last stretch of torque gains before the same torque/power apex in 2nd. You basically wanna land primed to reach max torque not long after shifting up. I find its best to let the torque go a little past the max in the band to make shifting more reasonable, and put you a little further up 2nd. Stock clutches in them things don't like to negotiate too steep of a torque jump and sometimes it's easier to shift an extra 500rpm up on the tach, smooth it out by shifting up after the torque has meaningfully decreased, you'll still have some left to pull in 2nd from that point. Every bit of torque you apply in first outside of that limitation, shortens the time it takes to climb in RPMs at that point where 2nd gear torque rolls off. And you can completely get over the hump of the part of 2nd where you're not building any torque yet. Instead of having that little drop in the power increase, it's more like a straight diagonal line of power transfer and wheel speed increase. It feels wayyyy faster because usually as you're getting up the RPMs in 2nd, your increase in power starts waning - you are still accelerating at those higher rippems, just less and less by the millisecond. Whereas with more momentum behind the car you don't feel it starting to fight for the top end anymore. It just struggle less there with a nice big push, feels more like it "wants" to go. Same principle you said, get her rolling. Ideally not landing at the bottom of your torque climb for 2nd, but approaching that point where all of that momentum gets thrown right into reaching towards the "power" side of the powerband. The idea behind spending an extra moment in 1st is to not have to overcome the resistance of climbing the taller gear for as long. It's easier to build torque in 1st, and land where the engine naturally builds rapidly increasing torque to carry it forward a sec later when the torque/resistance drops out. You find yourself in an RPM range where the motor can just rip through the taller gears. 2nd and 3rd can hit peak powerband real quick, and then you're kind of flying. I made a 2011 Kia Forte go a hair over 120mph this way. It's the only way to get those FWD 2-liter-beaters hitting a reasonable 0-60, let alone actually making it all the way up 5th instead of flattening out ~90-100. The momentum with first makes every subsequent gear feel considerably shorter. That car is junk. I was pleased. It got pretty hot over my feet for a couple minutes after, though lmao You'll know you're doing it right when the front end bucks up and every upshift feels quicker than the last 😆
@differentbutsimilar7893
@differentbutsimilar7893 7 ай бұрын
Another fun thing to do that feels fast, if you're brave/skilled/negligent enough... do a fake money shift from 2nd to 1st. Really make sure you're not gonna land at a high RPM though lol. Better to shift down from too low of an RPM and feel your way up to a downshift RPM that gives acceleration. If you can find the point to land right where the torque hits a stable climb, you might even spin the tires lol. I don't jump down from second any higher than 25mph. Even 30 lands below redline... it just clears a couple thousand so fast that it's easy to be late and bang on redline, and I've had to bail straight to 3rd in a panic. Flat ground, 20-25 translates to ~3000rpm (6.5k redline) in 1st in my car, that's where the car is really grabbing. If you wanna get pushed into your seat by acceleration in a standard FWD, that'll usually do it. They're just so light, it doesn't take a lot of torque to give them a lot of momentum, provided they don't have too much drag. If you start right where the engine already has torque on tap, you'll move more than anybody ever expects. You have this light little car that's already rolling. Give it torque and see what it can do.

Im a king at this. 1) Only fill to half tank. Instead of filling when you get to half, fill TO half. It saves a ton of weight. 2) Traction control OFF! Unless its raining. 3) If you are desperate, rear seat delete lightens up the weight. My car is light so when i took the rear seats out, I noticed a HUGE difference. 4) dont get the wrong gas!! 93 does not make a difference if your car isn't meant to use that gas 5) lose weight.

A few days ago when it kinda sprinkled, just as a precaution I swapped to a short ram. On my way home down the freeway I decided to see how it ran with the short ram and I was surprised at how much power the car lost just by converting it to short ram, it felt like it was slower than when I originally purchased the car, so for those of you looking for an intake for performance, save a little extra and get an actual cold air intake because it doesn’t just make the car sound better, it really does make a performance difference on those crappy 90s and 00s cars that were built to be the cheap economy car and if you really looked around for it, you can find good priced, quality CAIs.

Agreed. My 06 Mazda 3 hatchback (160HP, 150TQ crank 😭) kinda kept up with my friends’ WRX, m3 and 335i on backroads. I was forced to cruise at 5000-5500 rpms WOT or else I’d get left in the dust. But not gonna lie I had the time of my life doing so. I just recently bought a g37 coupe and honestly it’s not as fun to drive because it’s so heavy and if I go WOT I risk myself either wrapping it around a tree or getting impounded and losing my license whereas in the Mazda I can go WOT and have the time of my life then 30 seconds later I reach the speed limit 😂

The fun part of the FRS is it's a rev-happy little thing. I love owning one. I may turbo it someday, I may not. It's fun to wind it out and at the end of fourth you've just entered highway speeds. Like, mine makes a lot of noise, it looks and feels like it wants to be fast, handles turns like a car worth a lot more, but doesn't get pulled over because it doesn't get to the speed limit before you've had your fun. I feel like if I'd started with a faster car, it'd have gotten me into more trouble, or I'd have sent it into a wall in the first year. But this thing just makes bombing around town extremely fun.

Because slow V6s might be more pwoerful but they're also far heavier. Your Fiat can probably dust a lot of American V6 cars off the line

The "Slow V6" is about a cars that come with a more powerful engine version, but a build has the lower powered V6 because they plan to turbo/twin-turbo the car later. Alex mentions the Miata and 86/BRZ like 50 times.

@@philspaghet also i didn't know this. Sadly in Italy it's rare to see American cars, because here we have an annual tax called "bollo auto" which is higher depending on hp at the crank. Past 250hp another tax called "Superbollo" is added on top of the original and this one gets VERY expensive. That's why when an Italian car guy comes to America and sees so many 250+hp cars roaming around like it's normal goes like "WHAT? Are you all rich?". It's pretty rare to see anything above 200 here
