Hi Chuck you are a true inspiration, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule record same. Couple years back I completed a french drain in my crawl space it was tough but I always kept your mantra in my head. The french drain works to perfection with your approach. After the heavy California rains this year I have decided to tackle some outdoor negative grade areas and create a french drain out. Once again appreciate your honesty and time. God Bless you and your team!!

I just want to thank you for your video’s, you have helped me fix my yard and make it so everyone and my dogs can play outside without having to clean there paws every time they come in the house. And with the help of all of your videos that you made between watching a lot of them of them I could solve any problem that comes up while I’m doing drainage. And another thing because of you and your crew I feel confident enough to fix some of my family members drainage problem at their house. And doing a little bit on the side on the side to make extra money. So if you’re ever wondering if making them videos is worth it it is definitely worth it because there are thousands of people that you helped that don’t come on here and thank you so God bless you brother and your crew love ya.

We have done this with no pipe at all and and it worked real well. You do need a little grade, even an inch or two. We dug a trench from the low spot we identified in a bad rain. we dug a shallow trench (like 6-8" deep by 6" wide) from the low spot to the ditch. We Lined the trench with screen fabric like you would use for a window screen. We filled with mixed rock. Folded the screen over the top and put a little soil over it. We had that place for over 10 years and it was still working when we sold the property.

Where did the collected water land? I think the benefit of the more structured solutions is that you can add a pop up by the curb, otherwise the water would pool in the front yard, did the end of your underwater stream end at a common use waterway ( community sump) or a pond on your property? Before I read this I was thinking if a dry riverbed. But this is a good idea.

Good job. Thank you for an interesting video. I'm a DIY'r and I also connect the corrugated pipe using a piece of corrugated. but on the outside of both pipes. You erred when you said it doesn't reduce diameter. Putting anything inside a pipe reduces the diameter and the excess fold is a potential clog contributor.Sometimes I connect the pipes by slitting the end and slipping it over the other pipe's end such as on a downhill run.

Boy, I wish you were out our way I have a 50 foot ditch that was growing marsh like grass had the weeded very soggy. I got estimates of putting a pipe and dirt in it was almost $20,000. They were going to put 12 inch non-corrugated pipe. I don’t believe the going rate is that much I think materials would be 2000 most 1500 to 2000 for labor.

There are more than likely other ground drains on your property and diverted away, the downspouts or maybe a french drain that is already existing and you can tap into it. I see a lot of people including my buddy using round river rock and that is a mistake. My buddy was going to use round pea gravel! Round rock that has been tumbling around in a body of water or manually tumbled to smooth out the rock is not a good choice, the voids created are small and thin and even with filter fabric wrap that rock and those minimal voids will eventually trap silt and plug up your porous trench. I have always used crushed #4 gravel or a number close to that in size. It would take double the years maybe even triple the years to deposit enough fine silt to compromise a drain with larger rock.

hey chuck, how was you and your team able to push the water towards the exit point going up? will the water settle at the exit when it stops raining since the exit is upward? im curious because I dug my trench about 18 inches deep and wanted to connect to my existing pipes that discharge to the street. (i should of located my existing pipes before i dug) when the house was built, i think they only set the the solid pipe about 8-12 inches deep. now i have to transfer my pipe up 6 inches to the existing. will water still flow? i kind of gave up and my trench is just settled with water atm since that existing pipe is a little higher.

Great drainage. Only issue is these systems WILL clog over time depending on your location and your kind of soil.
@helicart
@helicart 9 ай бұрын
Clog with what? if you use non woven geotex, soil and clay doesn't clog them. Tree and shrub roots won't even clog them because the stones around the pipe air prune the roots. They can go 50+ years without clogging.

Is it worth it to install a back flow stop on these types of french drains in the case of flooding in the lower area or if you get to that point there wouldn't be much to stop the water from just seeping around it? I am going to be moving to a possible flood zone and I'd like to install some french drains to help, but I don't want them to backfire and let more water into my property; So I was thinking on the last few feet of down grade to have a solid pipe and a float gate/valve to prevent back water.
