Learn how to remove rust with products you have at home like vinegar and ketchup. This rust removal process is super easy and removes every spec of rust. First step is to use soapy water to clean and degrease your rusted parts. Next, cover the rusted parts with vinegar or ketchup and let it soak for 4-6hrs. Then use baking soda and water to neutralize the acid and finally spray the parts down with a light oil like silicone spray to prevent future rust.

As someone who used power tools and sandpaper to remove all rust on 4 brake drums this past year, the vinegar or ketchup looks like a much better solution. Not as time consuming, and you wouldn't be covered in rust and dirt by the time you're done, not to mention completely skipping the labor involved in doing it by hand.

You can’t get all the rust off with a scotch brite pad. There will be rust below the surface and that rust will just spread and come back. This gets in all the pores of the metal and removes all the rust with virtually no work. It just takes time. What I tend to do is put the fasteners in some vinegar as I work on the vehicle and by the time I’m installing the new part and need to use the fastener, the rust is gone.

I've tried both & I really prefer the vinegar, I've left things soaking for weeks & it works a treat, except for the one tool that went all floppy, whoops. Maybe Australian tomato sauce isn't as acidic as yours but it didn't work as well & is so messy & sticky to clean off. Your videos & explanation of instructions are absolutely awesome Chris, you're my go to & just thankyou so much for caring to share 🙏👊

Your videos are awesome, i just watch them even though I don't have a car. Bike repair videos would be an awesome and much needed addition.

Need a video on “How to clean a sticky tacky dash”…I have a black dash that has become sticky and when touched the black gunk comes off on whatever touches it. I have read all sorts of remedies…then comments on how that method made the dash worse. I am afraid to do anything for fear of ruining my dash. When you look at the dash there is no indication of it being sticky….help!

Ketchup has vinegar in it (like a second main ingredient) Hеinz ketchup makes it first main ingredient (at least in Russia)
