Thank you! There are many points of reference here. The key is to figure out your triggers and do your best to survive them. My main trigger is change in weather. I am a human barometer. And nothing can cure my migraines but darkness and sleep. However, if I feel one coming, I can hold it at bay with extremely strong ginger tea. Still hurts, but I can function. Eventually, I will need to take a sumatriptan and sleep for at least 3 hours. Migraines are such a waste of life. My sympathies for fellow sufferers.

Excellent, comprehensive presentation. I'll add that a common cause of mitochondrial function is sub-optimal thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone underpins mitochondrial number and function. We'll see this especially in catamenial(PMS) related headaches. Prevention requires progesterone and thyroid replacement, even if TSH is "normal".

I had migraines since i was 12 and before that headaches...i had migraines almost every day untill i was 18.then i had almost 3 times a week.Sometimes they could last for more than 24 hours.I had fainted stayed in bed and couldn t speak many times in my life.It was A miracle to finish school. My neurologist said to keep a diary in order to be able to find what the triggers are...and there were a lot.Now i have only 1 or 2 times a month and the pain is less.INTERMITTENT FASTING works for me in conbination with less carb intake. After many years with personal experiments i found the life i never had.Staying with low insuline levels does the trick.Of course i am avoiding some stuff like red wine or orange juice but small things.Try it ...it might work for you too. Tried vitamins oils surgery eastern/western meds triggers dietitian food eliminations it’s such a complicated disease that doesn’t have straight answers. Some happen bc of things like weather which you can’t control or even triggers like smells which if you ever go out in public could strike you at any time. Makes sence what you are saying, i get migraines when i'm stressed and don't get enough sleep for a few days. Also sometimes when doing cardio for a long periode and i dont eat enough carbs. I have a medicine for it from the doctor but they either dont work or the side effects are that i feel shattered for a few days. The migraines i get are mostly, start with a sort of double vision and i loose the ability to speak or read and then after that of course the headaches. The loss of speach and reading really freaks me out every time.

Thank you for producing this video. I have had migraines since I was about 12 years old. Everything you said rings true. It is great to hear someone talk about the underlying causes versus trying to put a band aid on it. Over the years I have found that mine can be triggered by different things, usually by getting out of balance, whether it is stress, blood sugar, hormones, diet, etc. This is the first time I have heard of magnesium helping. Going to try it. Thank you again!

I'm not calling Mark Hyman an idiot here, but I've been to one idiot neurologist after another for the better part of 20 years... I went to headache clinics etc., read books, the whole 9 yards... the idiot doctors were only interested in giving me drugs; UNINTERESTED in what I ate, what supplements I took etc. Gave me neurontin, shot me up with lidocaine, botox, antidepressants, the works. Now, I never had high blood pressure, but I eventually started to get atrial fluttering so I thought, what the hell; even though I LOVE SALT I thought, why not cut it out? Salt peanuts, salted almonds, you name it. Didn't really affect the arrhythmia... but the migraines went from 5-6 a month to 2 a month. Then I started supplementing with potassium and eating a banana a day: 1 a month. So there it is. I went back to the books I have, to check: NOT ONE mentioned salt! Freaking morons; waste of money and precious time seeing these mooks. In retrospect, here's a clue: if you LOVE to eat or drink or take anything and you suffer from migraines (or any dis-ease or pain), look carefully at what you love as possibly the cause of your pain. It's as they say: LOVE HURTS.

Mark Hyman, MD, I have done B2, Magnesium, coenzyme, and all the tests are by naturopath that cost $$$ and still eating healthy by barely eating it still does not work. You dont mention the amount of 'high dosage' of vitamins you are talking about. The chronic headache pressure is 24/7 and never alleviates not to mention torqued neck i have been working on with scalene and SCM muscles issues that is left over and severe lumbar osteoarthritis. It is insane that people like me are still alive and not able to light to get out of our blackness. People like me need more help and closer monitoring for we are barely eating and live alone and just to type this takes energy.

What I like the most in this video is that this doctor actually tells you what to do in the end. And the best thing is that if you do what he says it works! Magnesium makes the difference, green vegie juice with flaxseed for dha/epa 2 times per day. Quit coffee and replace it with Chinese tea (schizandra, Goji berries tea ) , eliminate sugars and heavy foods, gluten/dairy/grain/ foods and for sure you will see big improvement overall. Best wishes for long term health .

Wow! I sure hope my Eye Auras go away for good. Instead of drinking diet coke w/Aspartame, I opt for the regular coke or Sprite. Dyes are not good, so stay away from colored sodas. I take Coq10, BVitamins(be sure to get enough thiamin, and Magnesium, daily. I use to wait until the EYE Aura came on me to take action, but, I have found that preventing the problem before it begins, is so much better. Also, get stressed out-of-your life. I had been having the Auras for about 19 years, and was told they are harmless. Then, last year, I had an Aura come on me, making me extremely weak, tingling sensations, numbness, and a sense of losing control. My Auras usually last for about 20 minutes w/ No migraine headache. I thought I was going to die. By the time I reached the ER, the symptoms began to subside. After this scary occcurence, I knew it was time to take action. I have been seeing a Chiropractor for about a year, now. I have had about5 Eye Auras since last August. I went as-long-as 5 months after my mini-stroke scare. I know what triggered the next one. I drank a COKE with aspartame and took a Zirtec that my Nurse caregiver prescribed. That combination was sporadic. I had another Aura Episode. Dairy, high amounts of sugar, grains, corn, and some Fish supplements will trigger mine, too. I am scheduled to see the Neurologist in November, but, I am not too keen on the Botox. Until then, I will be sure to hydrate with Sea Salt water, and Electrolytes. If you have this condition, be sure to Hydrate. I hope one day there will be a cure for all forms of Migraine.😮 Take care everyone!

He's a doctor, yes. But what he says is ANCIENT news. I have all the symptoms he describes, and I'm a guy. Even PMS, men can get that too. I quit everything he says we should quit. Still have migraines. Aimovig is a blessing for me. Went from 25 ceizures a month to 3. I am blessed to be living in Norway. The Aimovig is almost free for me. 52$ for 3 injections. Think that before you say that socialism is equal to comunism. Nobody hates comunism more than me. I was born in Romania. In Norway, the profit from the health-care system goes back to the patients. In us, back to the owners pockets. You have the same system as norwegians with that big difference. Think that before you attack Medicare.

I have eliminated at least a dozen food triggers, was taking nortriptyline which I hated and now I eat only meat, veg, eggs, butter and mayonnaise. I avoid nuts, cheese, wheat, chocolate, corn, bananas, citrus, msg, artificial sweeteners, soy, onions, anything pickled or fermented, coffee, etc. I was better for almost two weeks but now my daily, chronic headaches are back. I might give up eggs but I'm skeptical that it will help. I'm also cutting caffeine down which helps but if I have just a second cup of tea because I can't frickin cope when I'm exhausted, the headache comes back. I'm persistent though and I really hope to at last get to where I don't have pain every single day of my life. Cannabis doesn't help me either. I'm not having as intense migraines like I used to though and I now longer have vomiting and lose the whole day because I have to stay in bed, so there is progress. I had a very severe concussion years ago which I suspect may play a part. Plus, this all started for me when I turned about 45....hormones may be the largest issue in my case. I tried birth control pills and got scary heart palpitations so I quit. I tried bio identical progesterone and estrogen but they've done nothing for me.

I’m already taking magnesium and trying to eat mainly vegetables and things that are brain healthy and I’ve been getting more light exercise and avoiding triggers like caffeine and I still feel awful. The magnesium upsets my stomach but so do most foods so the problem may be gut related so the next step is to get a food sensitivity and allergy test. I have hormonal imbalance as well and no idea how to fix it because the doctors never told me any information about it they just mentioned birth control but a real reproductive wealth doctor told me to never take birth control because of my complex migraine disease because it could cause a stroke. I’ve had so many tests trying to figure out what the root of the multitude of symptoms could be and one doctor said it is difficult because it could be anything, anxiety could be causing symptoms, or something could be causing the anxiety. I have to go to a chiropractor regularly for a pinched nerve in my neck that causes the most painful migraines.. We just don’t know because there’s such a wide range of possibilities and I don’t know what to do.

I'm a sufferer of migranes and they are very debilitating; especially when I experience them at work. Sometimes it will be 6 months since I've had one, sometimes I'll have two in the space of three days; it's completely random. Cutting out caffiene has slowed it down and reduced the amount of auras I experience when attacks occurs; but it's not a nice thing. I remember when I got a migrane for the first time when I was 14; it was exteremlely frightening :(

Mag oxide is the worst and the cheapest form of magn. It only works for constipation. Just use citrate if you tend to be constipated or glycinate if you loose stools ( it also calms the brain)

hey migraine people. I've had them for 35 years. Best results with beta blockers like inderal, atenolol. side effects, but it's better than those damn headaches. Also, absolutely no caffeine, aspartame, alcohol, cheese, red wine, chocolate, msg low sodium get tested for sleep apnea too and for sinusitis, Good luck especially you teenagers, don't give up sweeties.

For me its all meat, greens and nuts and its such a powerful and painful headache, feel it in my temporal lobe. Unfortunately vegetarianism and veganism(excluding nuts and greens, but tried with greens as well same problem) both lead to me getting extremely bad crepitus. I've tried EVERY version of vegetarianism and although milk helped alleviate the back pain that was happening(I also didnt consume gluten so couldn't be that) It simply doesn't work with my body, I just get bone and specifically JOINT problems so how do I go about stopping the headaches? Is there something specific to these foods that cause these problems?

I have tried all of these and the only thing that has helped me is clean keto. I am suffering a terrible migraine at the moment because I had some non-keto food over the holidays. I haven't taken medication for migraines in 4 years, I don't even have any. I never want to take any of those medications again. The side effects are terrible. I was prescribed so many medications in my teens and 20s, now in my 30s I am on zero medications.

Make sure you are using the proper pillow when sleeping. I've been focusing on this recently and although it's not the "cure all" for headaches for me it has helped greatly reduce the neck pain that turned into headaches. Previously I was using 2 pillows which would put constant strain on my neck all night. Try to keep your neck and spine as straight as possible. Sure it's common knowledge to some, but I figure it never hurts to pass along.

xhardwarex Just an update 4 months later. I used 1 immitrex 100mg in the past month which is a miracle for me. The changes I've made most recently is I only sleep with one pillow which is about 4 inches thick, it's memory foam. I'm no longer taking 20mg Celexa and didn't replace it with any similar medication and I also take fewerfew every few days. I really should take the feverfew daily, but I simply forget. I do take 1 excedrin almost daily so I'm not completely cured. Not stuck in bed multiple times a week though which is awesome. Feels like I almost have my life back.
