Never ceases to amaze me. You can be trained, experienced, certified, confirmed, and baptized in this and there's always some guy who has a great trick. I know guys who roll their eyes when I start talking about even touching the fan. This industry is losing people and sorry but you do have some old timers unwilling to share their knowledge. Thank you Brian .

My son, 14 was given a 1995 Dodge Dakota with only 70000 miles, so I have 2 years to get the body work done. I ordered new front fenders, rocker panels and cab corners. These paint videos are a great help for me to give it a good looking paint job. Thankyou and happy painting.

Hi Brian, well today I painted and cleared my tailgate. I used this method to adjust my gun,I have to thank you so very much!! I have never laid down clear so flat. I mean I usually have some peal and some nibs to wet sand but, now no peal just a few nibs!! I kept looking at the gate waiting to see a run and you are right it was right on the edge, no runs, no peal, just a few nibs. I have been watching for a couple years know and you have helped me a great deal so again thank you very much!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍

Excellent Video!! I am a veteran painter starting in the 1970's and will start using your air fan/pressure technic! One thing I do different on actual painting panels, etc., is I paint the "jam areas" first in case a dust particle contaminates the main area...I can stop and fix it; then spray the "show-me" areas on a clean uninterrupted run!

Excellent tip, I've been using a LVLP gun on custom guitar paint jobs, specifically clear coats and struggling with how to balance the fan pattern verses the air pressure on small jobs. This really helps! Thank you 😊

This is excellent. Thank you for this! I still remember after doing a couple of finishes as perfect and flat as possible, I had to help a friend respray a fender on his wife's Buick. Got everything prepped, sprayed it all carefully. Looked awesome, went and put it on the car... hmm. The fender looked amazing, but it was clearly MUCH nicer than the rest of the car was. That's when it was clear to me, parking even my old Mazda next to the owner of the company's brand new Lexus, it was clear who had a better paint finish.

Thank you! I am running out to the shop with a scrap fender to try this now!!! I have always struggled with orange peel. Sometimes I get a beautiful panel, and other times I have a deep orange peel that has to be sanded. I have been chasing air pressures, but now, I am hoping, I can stop chasing air pressures and just dial it in!

Uncle Tony : there is a lot of snake oils out there today the old 3-in1 oil, Marvel oil mystery oil, and WD-40 been using all three oils for the past 74 years because it’s what I used with my Dad! Actually WD-40 I think came out in the early 60s and it was new to both my Dad and I it’s amazing how many oils there are and the differences on what they can be used! Thanks for taking the time to ferret these things out! One of the things that the marvel Mystery oil was good for especially as a body man and fabricator in my line of work was keeping all of my Air tools oiled before using them! Just a couple of drops before every use has made most of all of them last through a lifetime of use! And I still use them to this day over 70 years later! 👍

long time viewer here been following your process here Slow is the new fast ! i have had a issue here which has brought my confidence down i always dry peel so today it was a lovely 55F dry morning in the shade , i had a nice prepped bonnet everything was followed by the book , was respraying my bonnet due to 5 to 6 rock chips just like your viewer video with the Porsche anyway ended up doing the blend with the base gave about 8 to 10 min to flash and go matte i mixed my clear up before hand and heated it up to a lovely toasty 80F so it could flow out well with out having to use to much reducer ended up going with 5% so paint was on the thicker side did my first coat of clear just like your glossy hood video i got it on pretty heavy but could see a tiny bit of dry area it was like glass , waited as per tech sheet plus a extra 5 min as it was cool with my medium speed activator got my 2nd coat of clear on , watched the paint dry for 45min she all looked great 6 hours later and it has got solvent pop over it , most stuff was done by the book and activator was slow for the cool morning , it was left to dry in the shade in 65F weather as it heated up a touch since morning :(

You just help me big on figuring out why I just haven't been happy with my clear job on the last job I did when I know I did everything right and could not figure out how to get rid of orange peels now I know my fluid wasn't set to wide open and my fan was to wide and my psi was to high. Was proud that there where no runs but still wasn't happy and I even used the finish 1 and I was completely lost and borderline discouraged until I see. This video. Thanks brother your awesome

Another great learn-by example! Looking back on what I've painted so far (not a ton) I recall just fiddling with the fan and pressure settings to get where I wanted it, but now knowing a defined process for getting to that end point, you save a guy time, and cut out the 'well, maybe this works better' -- You've done it, and pass on the knowledge to us. Thank you!

This is a great adjustment trick for all coatings from primers to base coats. If you have Orange Peel in your Primers or Base Coats you will have it in your Clear Coats also. No matter what adjustments you use on your Clear Coat. Orange Peel is a product of several things. 1. Coating Viscosity is too thick for Fluid Needle Set being used 2. Application of too much material to substrate in an application pass 3. Air Pressure set too high 4. Air Pressure set too low 5. Fan Width set too wide or too narrow 6. Using a Fast Hardener in high temperatures 7. Using a Fluid Needle and AirCap that are dirty 8. Using a low quality gun that doesn’t atomize properly 9. Insufficient Shop Air CFM’s to maintain Optimum PSI
