How to Emergency Stop Safely on Driving Test | Driving Tutorial | Updated 2023

You may be asked to carry out an Emergency Stop on your Driving Test. Your examiner will make you aware that they will be testing you on emergency stopping, it won't be a surprise during your driving test.
It's important to practise the emergency stop with your Driving Instructor so your reflex reaction becomes a habit. Bare in mind, an emergency stop in a manual car is slightly different to that in an automatic.

I did an emergency stop during my lesson and it was a real life Scenario. I didn’t done emergency braking With my instructor, a car pulled out onto the main road and I just automatically hit the brake. My driving instructor also went for his brake but I got there first. He said “well done”

I haven't been taught to do this yet but my instructor said it's something we're looking at soon. Although I did an emergency stop a few weeks ago due to a very tight narrow road I was going down only enough for 1 car and someone opened there car door upon me approaching them even though they were facing me and could clearly see I was on the road and very close to them. I slammed my brakes on and pushed the clutch down just in time or there would of been no car door for the lady. She didn't even apologise and just smiled at me not sure if that was an awkward smile or not though lol. Then I carried on after checking around me. It was an automatic reaction my instructor was impressed and even said she could see us coming towards to her as she gave us eye contact so could of waited until we past her. As we were so close as it was. Wonder if its because I had l plates on or her judgement wasn't any good. Either way Im alive 😂

I have the DVLA theory test app and can pass every time (around 45/50) I have my theory test in a few weeks and was wondering if the real test will be easier or harder. And whether I should do other mock tests elsewhere.

The real test will be pretty much the same. It's the same bank of questions. But the hazard clips will be ones you've never seen before

I was worried about the same exact thing but when I took the test in the test centre I realised it’s exactly the same as the app maybe worded slightly different but it’s the same answers! Plus hazard perception was all cgi in the real test which means the app is actually harder than the real thing! dw

Firstly, I really find your videos informative. But here I saw you pressing cluch and brake together and thats why car didn't loose ignition. Else if you just press brake on let's say gear 3 then car with stop with jerks and loose ignition. Please reply. Thanks.

Well done mate , but second Stop u did wrong you know why ? U changed gear before hand break. Also why in two stop u didn't check behind car ?

Hey Thaminah if you don't mind either I'd recommend learning in a manual. You will get a full licence. If you pass your test in an automatic your license will have a restriction that only let's you drive automatic cars.

only after coming to a stop completely. you secure the car by putting on the handbrake and selecting neutral :)

You can ask your instructor to go over the emergency stop with you but on your test the examiner might give it to you but you can't request it.

A german here, hi. I politely disagree with you^^. when you break for an emergency your engine break wont benefit you in any way. since you are breaking so hard you would even have to break against your motor tourque so its the opposite of beneficial. When you do an emergency break yor ABS will likely kick in anyway and you can not possibly break harder. In germany it is taught by driving schools, the ADAC "fahrsicherheitstraining", and by military training for cars and trucks, to press break and clutch as fast and hard as you can, at he same time. I dont get why you would make it more complicated without getting any value out of it.
