👉 Learn how to evaluate inverse trigonometric functions. The inverse trigonometric functions are used to obtain theta, the angle which yielded the trigonometric function value. It is usually helpful to use the calculator to calculate the inverse trigonometric functions, especially for non-special angles.
To calculate the inverse trigonometric function of a value using the calculator we press the second function button (shift) before pressing the trigonometric function button and then the number follows. This gives the inverse trigonometric function of the calculated value.

An easy way to distinguish between trig and inverse trig functions is that : In trig functions the INPUT (or what goes within brackets) is theta whereas in in the inverse trig functions the INPUT is the reverse, meaning it is sin theta or cosine theta or tan theta etc. So since the INPUT is reversed hence the OUTPUT will also be reversed. Think of REVERSAL of INPUT hence OUTPUT.

Mr. McLogan's Math Channel I probably did not say anything original except that being simple minded I like to think in everyday terms like "input" and "output" with the output written before the input. The term "function" is another term for the output. Also that the terms sin, cosine and tan etc. are mere ratios of the sides of a right triangle. Perhaps a bit of necessary jargon.

I’m getting confused on the part our teacher gave us, with a cotangent theta negative square root of 3

use the reciprocal function 1/tan(theta)=root(3) therefore tan(theta)=1/root(3) or root(3)/3

correct, the domain of the trig function is restricted giving the range of the inverse function that restriction

And why not just show them the tangent graph for the student who doesn't understand where tan becomes 0 and undefined? That should be far more intuitive than unit circle, imho.
