Chiaogoo swivel cables make this somewhat simpler. The cable ends rotate to allow connection with another cable. I keep a short swivel cable with a connector on one end and cable stop on the other to allow test fittings or to just admire the lay of the fabric.

Excellent idea! If there are both kinds of cables available the swivel cable end could make it even easier. I am not sure they make them for "mini" cables though, but for "small" and "large" might be well worth it getting a "swivel" cable for fittings.

Hi Irina, that is a clever way to do it and you show it very clearly, thank you so much for that!! It is so nice to see how someone else (you in this case) deals with this. I also love the wool you are working with, makes me want to buy it and start a new garment! May I ask what wool you are working with? I would have a lot of trust in patterns made by you as well, but I don't think you write patterns or are you thinking about doing that? Minimalistic and very clever detailing with eye for perfection so those would be very educational and interesting.Thank you so much for your tutorials!! Hope you are doing fine....

Thank you so much, Egidia, for your amazing comment!! I have thorough records, but not a pattern yet to publish (you are right, I've never yet written/published a pattern!). I am thinking to make this sweater with two other yarns (solid colour+accent colour, and self-striping) to double-check everything. The current sweater is made with Noro Silk Garden Sock Solo (the colour is pistachio, but it's been discontinued, unfortunately). I also posted some notes on my Instagram page.
