Hi thank you for the tutorial! One question do you start the bind off after and increase row or the row with the slip stitch? Many thanks
@irinarevo5 күн бұрын
After the row with the slip stitch.
@user-tq6qm5qj7t5 күн бұрын
Sorry I’m a newbie 😂 on the row I knit first stitch then increase, knit the rest but on the 3 stitches shape the corner then turn and then bind off?
@irinarevo5 күн бұрын
No worries. No, it’s not the row with the increase at the beginning. It’s the row that started with the slip stitch that you shape the corner at the end of, then turn around and do the bind off.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video and plan to try it. One question: You changed the needle size from US 3 to US 4 on one needle on the first row after the setup. Did you then go back to US 3 for the remaining knitting? My project (and gauge) requires a US 3 throughout.
@irinarevo22 күн бұрын
The main needle size for the ribbing was US 4. I go for a smaller size for the setup to avoid flared edge. I only changed the size of the right hand needle (not both) because since the right hand needle is the one that determines the gauge, keeping the left hand needle size smaller makes it easier to insert the right hand tip into the stitches and makes knitting faster. If your project requires a US 3, you can use it from the beginning or use a slightly smaller needle for the setup (if your swatch shows that the edge is flared). :)

I used to look at various knitters for instruction videos, but now I only look to you - you have the cleanest, most innovative, & easy-to-follow techniques. Thank you so much for this video! I would like to make this scarf but with stripes of 2 different colors. Any tips on the best way to carry up the yarn at the side with this edge method? 😊
@irinarevoАй бұрын
Hi Lora! A am very glad you like the scarf! I think carrying the yarn along this selvedge would make the selvedge a bit thicker, and if the yarn colours are very contrasting it could be visible (unlike in a sweater where you could hide it in the seam). Maybe, a 2-stitch I-cord selvedge could better help to hide the "other" colour inside.

Hi Irina, I’ve finally got round to trying this cast off but I am using it on a 2 x knit 1 x purl rib and I’ve realised everyone only seems to suggest it for a 1 x 1 or 2 x 2 rib. Does it knit up unevenly on a 2x 1 rib? Mine appears quite uneven!
@irinarevoАй бұрын
Hi Hannah, yes it is for a 1x1 rib (1 knit x 1 purl). For the 2x2 and 3x3 it will work too, but first you would have to swap the stitches to make it a 1x1. For any other combination of the knit and purl stitches - like 2 k x 1 p in your case - you can’t swap the stitches to get a smooth transition to a 1x1 rib, so some other bind off would be better.
Thanks! I have sieved through many books and videos, trying to learn this cast-off method for my sweater but each time I gave up because I couldn't get the hang of it. Finally found your video and what a Godsend! After a few trials and errors, I managed to complete my sweater. Happy!

Perfect! Explaned the start and finish! But the middle part when you start to decrease…
@irinarevo2 ай бұрын
Glad you liked it! There are no decreases, it’s diagonal knitting. At any time you get a symmetrical triangle. Just stop knitting/increasing when you like the size of your shawl and bind off.

Is there any way to do this cast off for a knit 1, purl 2 rib?
@irinarevo2 ай бұрын
Ribs 2x2 and 3x3 can be smoothly transitioned into rib 1x1 to finish with the tubular rounds. Any irregular knit x purl combination will not look as smoothly when transitioned to rib 1x1. Also, you would need a total # of stitches that can be divided by 2. But, on the other hand, the imperfect transition might be looked at as an intentional design decision.

@@irinarevo I know that, my meaning was to knitt it. Hate working with the tapestry needle. That’s why I do toe up socks so I don’t, have to use the tapestry needle bind off the toe.
@irinarevo2 ай бұрын
You wanted it to look like in the video - it’s either tubular with the tapestry needle. Or you can fold the stockinette and sew it on inside the sock - still need the tapestry needle.
@ilmasaliniece25262 ай бұрын
Tried tubular bind off for my 2 pairs socks, realise isn’t elastic. Sorry
@irinarevo2 ай бұрын
It might help sometimes to increase the number of stitches for the ribbing of a cuff of a sock, but tubular is essentially a doubled up stockinette, so as such it’s only minimally stretchy.

Those first row knit stitches, “from right to left” are often described as “knit through the back” in English. Just mentioning, but your English is so wonderful please do not think I mean it as anything but a suggestion! I have been subscribed for a few years but am only just getting back into knitting, after many years away from the craft. (Retirement frees up A LOT of time!) Please allow me to compliment you on your knowledge, expertise, and patterns. Thank you, from 🇨🇦 😊
@irinarevo3 ай бұрын
Thank you so much, Theresa, for your kind comment! In the 1st row the knit stitches are in an unusual position - they are facing right - or, in other words, the front side of the stitches is turned right. That’s why to avoid twisting them, they are worked "from right to left", it is still through the front of the stitches (through the front loop). "Through the back loop" would be, for example, kfb, or twisted knit stitches, when the knit stitches are facing left (the usual position) and you insert the right needle from right to left or through the back of the stitches. I mentioned it in the latest video: REVERSIBLE TWISTED Rib 1x1 JOGLESS in the Round. ITALIAN cast-on. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Ztmpn7uX3JrbeoE.html. Thank you again for your kind suggestion and wishes! ☺️
