@@diinql Training to failure often is counter-productive. If done so occasionally, it's fine, but when done too often, you're just wasting your time. Push the limits, sure, but do it productively.

@fire trails training to failure all the time is indeed counter productive.. performing to RPE 8 on most of your sets is better for muscle hypertrophy, increased strength over time, allows better recovery in a shorter space of time and is less taxing on the Central Nervous System (CNS).

Came here after reading up on the tragic Justyn Vicky squat accident and subsequently searching for "how to escape a failed squat." Yours was the first result! Thanks for sharing this; two years on and still holds up nicely. Additionally, what you said at 4:03 was utterly spine-chilling; this is what actually happened with Justyn Vicky's horrific last squat. RIP.

Simeon's got really long legs with a short torso which makes his squat even more impressive. Got a similiar torso to femur ratio and it's a real bitch when trying to squat heavy.

One of the smartest videos I’ve seen In A while. Everyone wants to go to the gym and be like their favorite KZfaq or Instagram fitness hero but people don’t realize that the gym is a dangerous place. You can build muscle or tear up all kinds of shit!

Hats off to you for showing this. I've had a couple of scary moments where I had to bail. The first I threw over my head but it wasn't too heavy. The second was backwards onto spotter bars. At least now I know how do bail a rep properly and safely. Thank you.

I's actually safest to set safety bars just below the bottom of the exercise so you can lean forward and avoid hitting your tailbone with an insane amount of weight I know from personal experience I've seen people break their tailbone because the weight was too much and they threw it off of their back

High quality instruction. If you never fail you never learn. Failing in a lift tells you a lot about your weaknesses. Failing on an academic test tells you where you lack knowledge. How you fail is key. Minimize risk.

This shouldn't be encouraged without safety pins. Literally going to snap your ankles on the dump if you dont time it correctly.

I disagree almost every Olympic weightlifters squat without pins and dump is very easy. Most do it for last set anyway.

Why so? Back when I squatted 130kg I always dropped it without pins because I never squat in racks. It is completely useless unless you do lowbar powerlifting squats.

Amazing video, youre the first person ive seen that teaches such a smart thing to know like failing lifts safely. Also biiiiig props to you for admitting to going back to the drawing board for your squat. I remember the first squat video you did with Bradley Martyn and your form from then and now is night and day. Both great, but I prefer the ATG.

He is putting the safety straps way too low. Looks like a couple of bars are bent afterwards. You wouldn't do that to your own bars

What about low bar squat? With low bar, it's placed lower on your back, which means you have to lean forward to keep the barbell centered

not sure why im here other that to say this video is probably going to have a greater positive impact than any other lifting video uploaded this month and quite honestly all form videos should have a bail method baked into the lesson cause well we've all seen it when people don't know how to get out of a lift and it's shockingly scary each and every time

Fair Warning: This is still dangerous. I’ve hit myself in the low back doing this. I was fine but got a nice bruise. Do yourself a favor and just set the safeties to the right height if you’re gonna go heavy.

Until you squat low bar and the bar hit the bottom of your spine paralyzing you. I use the rack and have the pins just below where I squat too, if I wanted to squat to the pins I can, so if I know I'm gonna fail just slowly lower the weight onto the pins

As soon as I couldn't get up from the squat, I slid away, turning and facing my whole body to the left away from the barbell. I didn't get hurt because of my speed, and I was also able to find my limit. Now I know what to work with to get there.

Not gonna lie, I admit to leaning forward whenever I fail on a squat. It always feels awkward and uncomfortable (obviously), but hopefully I bring myself to just throw the weight back instead. Great video as always!
