How To FAIL at Upgrading a Motherboard Without Reloading Windows
In this video I will show you how to fail at upgrading a motherboard, CPU, and Memory without reloading Windows 10. In reality the upgrade worked great, just as expected. However there was a major problem that actually did require the computer to be reloaded. Watch the video to find out what it was.

Hi, I just stumbled over your vid. I upgraded my CPU and Mobo about a week and a half ago and since then I'm getting random crashes. I was an idiot and just put in the new mobo and started it up without a clean install. you think that might be the problem?

It depends. I had something similar happen a while ago and it turned out being memory settings in the bios. After turning XMP on the crashing stopped. That doesn't mean that's the same problem you're having but you have to determine why your computer is crashing before you jump to conclusions.

Some people say that you have to uninstall all intel-based drivers, or it won't boot. I plan on using my current OS drive in an AMD Ryzen 5000 series 8 core system from an Intel 7th gen i5. But put into an entirely new computer albeit with the same GPU. Everything I have seen tells to uninstall the intel drivers or you'll be hunting for solution to problems for weeks. I had no issues going from an older duo core from like 2010 to the 7-gen intel in 2017 except windows 10 didn't activate because for some reason it wouldn't for reasons, I fixed but cannot tell how I did it or why it did this, but it wouldn't upgrade to newer builds of Windows 10. So, I couldn't do the activation wizard where its first question is. did you change hardware? All you have to answer is yes and it activates. This should work in 2022. I have a 64bit OS so I shouldn't have the problem you had. Does having a TPM active and secure boot on effect the ability for the OS to operate on the different hardware?

This is for anyone watching this video today in 2022. i'm going from an intel i7-7700k --> AMD Ryzen 7 5800k. Installing a new CPU, MOBO, and RAM. Curious if after i've backed everything up to my HDD, if i can just boot everything up on my SATA SSD (my boot priority right now) and be good to go? I'm on Windows 10, and have my windows access activated with a digital license LINKED to my Microsoft account. Should be able to boot it up, and log into my Microsoft Account/Onedrive correct? (From the comments it seems JUST that easy. But before leaving the BIOS after first bootup, is there anything somebody recommends?) Would you recommend downloading the following to a flashdrive to install IN THE BIOS LATER, before adding in my new hardware?: MOBO: -Latest BIOS Version -LAN/Audio/VGA/Utilities/SATA Driver -Chipset Driver Appreciate any and all help. First time switching to AMD chipsets!
@CyberCPU

It should work well. Just make sure the sata controller is set the same in the BIOS. If your old motherboard is ACPI make sure the new one is to. Just make sure that's the same and it should work. If it's not set to ACPI then it is possible to change it but I would worry about that after you get Windows 10 booted on the new hardware and all the new devices detected. To switch the SATA controller to ACPI go into recovery in settings and set the computer to boot into safe mode. Then while it's rebooting switch the SATA controller to ACPI and then let the system boot into safe mode. You don't have to do anything in safe mode just let it boot. Then restart the system and it should boot into regular mode with ACPI. If it doesn't work you can always switch it back to whatever it was and try again.

@@CyberCPU yeah, Think I might just do a fresh windows install after thinking it all over. It’s not like I do too much on the PC anyways besides gaming and a few files that are work-related. Just backed everything up and did a system image. So I’ll just go through the boot drive method with Windows 10, then when it asks where to install Windows, I’ll simply click my SSD (but hit the delete everything button on there through the windows installation process). Unless you recommend probably just deleting everything through (reset this PC), before the parts arrive? It's always a good idea to back up because nothing is for sure. There's all kinds of issues that could happen in the process that you might have to work through. However, I have had very few instances where this didn't work. But as you can see in the video I have had situations where this upgrade failed. Recently I had one that was very difficult because the new motherboard did not support MBR boot and the old system was MBR. So I had to convert the partition to GPT prior to moving it to the new system. I have a video coming out on Monday that shows exactly how to do it. I have done this with hundreds of computers at this point and can count on one hand the amount of systems that failed. Even when I've had problems in the past in a lot of cases I was ultimately able to get it to work but most of the time it just works.

Great video! My Win10 64bit X470 PC quit suddenly with No Video out from the graphics card and onboard graphics, no POST beeps.. yet it looked like it was trying to boot since I had normal Drive LED activity and Good PSupply voltages, so I got a new replacement MB and swapped my CPU, DDR4, Fans, and M2 C: drive etc into it last night and am about to try booting it up.. Sadly I noticed the Ryzen 7 MB I got is an Asus x570 but the X470 I’m replacing is actually an MSI x470.. so all the drivers will be different. I do have the product Keys and would like to ask .. do you think Win10 will boot up to a point it’ll let me install the proper new MB drivers from the CD ROM that came with the new MB? I’m hoping the Original M2 drive with my Win10 on it can boot .. should It? An update as of 1 Oct 09:00 am.. well I couldn’t wait for your reply and went ahead and tried booting up anyway.. and there was NO change in symptoms at all.. still see normal front panel LED HD Drive activity but zero video signal.. tried swapping from DisplayPort to HDMI with a different cable.. still see “no signal”, I have no SVGA port so I can’t try VGA, the new MB still has no POST beeps , but does have LEDs and the Dram and CPU LEDs cycle off but it hangs on the WHT VGA fail LED ON.. I’m thinking possibly a bad Corsair TX850/Power Supply.. even tho at the connector ends I read a good +12 and 5.2 VDC I think I have to swap it next or my monitor one.. then swap everything on the New MB back .. What say ?

CyberCPU Tech yes, I did that 1st and both internal mb and Hi end GPU graphics card Fail . So I’m assuming it’s either my monitor or the Power supply and I just bought both to find out which it is then will swap the new MB out and hope it all ends well.. Well it’s not the monitor.. a replacement HDMI monitor does the same thing.. no signal.. I’m swapping the PS out next..

You should have more than one stick of RAM. Pull all but one and try to post it that way. If that doesn't work then switch out the one module with another one and try again.

CyberCPU Tech Swapping in a new PS did not fixit but I can hear the POST beeps now As: one long and 3 short means the same thing as the constant WHT Post LED: “no VGA detected” .. not sure why it’s saying this since I have no VGA video out connector on the MB.. I can start removing and swapping the 4ea DDR4 sticks but think I should put the original mb and all the rest back in place since it does not appear to be a MB, Power Supply, Video card, monitor, keyboard, mouse, or power cable issue.. all have been swapped .. Why is it telling me no VGA detected when there is no VGA on this Motherboard? I only have HDMI and DisplayPort..and why is it not failing the memory POST if it might be a memory card failure?

That's bizarre. I would start will pulling ram and trying to post it with only 1 stick. I recently had a new system I built for a customer that wouldn't post out of the box. However it would post with one stick of RAM instead of two. I assumed it was a bad stick of memory in the dual channel kit. However I took a really close look at the bad module and saw that somehow there was a film or maybe even corrosion on the contact points. Bought it brand new from Newegg but maybe it been sitting on the shelf for a while. I cleaned the contact points really well installed the RAM and it worked perfect.

I recently had a system that did something very similar and it turned out it wouldn't properly boot Windows without the XMP profile turned on. Sometimes it's something simple but you need to start somewhere to narrow it down. If you run Memtest86 on the new hardware and it fails you can concentrate your energy and troubleshooting on the memory but if it passes then you can move on to something else.
