Yiquan fights with quick explosive power. Your whole body weight you should be in every hit. Yiquan works to dominate the position and overwhelm the opponent. Once it starts to attack Yiquan does not let up.
The opponent should be forced to retreat and any available space they create while doing so should immediately be taken by the Yiquan player as they run over the opponent while continuously striking.

I've read that standing post training will cause serious problems for those who have uneven hip alignment as i allegedly may have (according to the observation of a nurse I know). Is this true? If so, are there any alternatives or perhaps a different posture than the horse that I might emphasize instead? I'm basically flat-footed, slightly bow legged, and noticeably crooked-hipped. Is there a path a might take to more safely practice, or is this style best left away for me?

Our method of training Post will produce better results much more safely for someone with the issues you mentioned. This approach typically produces results faster than the more traditional public methods anyway, and since it is based on the connections in your body rather than rigid stance work, Clear's Yiquan will be ideal for you or anyone with similar concerns. www.clearmartialarts.com/yi-quan-mind-fist/

I was taught Yiquan standing as well as tai chi push hands. After developing some kung fu from Yiquan standing I noticed like you said I could just dominate and overwhelm my opponent (big or small) with whole body rooted power during push hands. Does Yiquan blend or yield like tai chi or bagua? It seems like a highly trained Yiquan could run over most people and not need to yield.

+FredoFreedom Hi. I was taught standing practice similarly taught in Yiquan in my Taijichuan class. My instructor would normally have more invested students (including myself) practice upwards to an hour without budging to master the practice. I have been doing the practice averaging about a half an hour a day to stay consistent, and have had noticed my sung energy and zhong ding to start to come together in with my hands naturally rising above my head after working our the tension with the whole body power, but I've noticed my shoulders start to get tense again where they had been relaxed before and a lot of tension arise in my lower dantian. Any suggestions on corrections and would anyone be able to provide advice on how to get more out of my practice to loosen my joints more to achieve results like being able to use the breaking techniques martially. Thanks

+FredoFreedom Yiquan is derived form Xing Yi so it doesn't blend or yield nearly as much as Bagua or Tai Chi. Yiquan is constantly working angles, blending and yielding, but only just enough to make running over the opponent easier. Most of the time, especially in a skilled player, the blending and yielding won't be very noticeable. It will look like are just crashing through their opponent.

+James Rankin I recommend using partner exercises like these whenever possible. The feedback you get from a partner will help you spot the errors that are causing tension faster: kzfaq.info/sun/PLrNPUBAMZb8XB35aUobV8B-VjaoJ8psXu Then you can apply those adjustments to your solo practice.

+Clear's Internal Combat Arts That's main problem though. I don't have a partner to practice with. Do you know of additional solo practices I could do until I get back to a class?

+James Rankin Most people including myself in the past wondered how are these practices are going to help me martially. When the conditioning is done correctly there will be no question. You will be plainly faster and stronger, but many are not. The biggest issue I think people have is grounding which involves connection of glutes to the feet through the correct tendon/tension configuration. I learned of this through Chong Xie youtube channel secrets of atheletism. He stated only a small percentage of people are capable of doing this and then making it stronger through traditional exercises like squats as well as kung fu stances. The modern shoe, influencing the use of our feet and legs, has retarded the natural tendon growth of the legs. The gripping of the ground is part of this connection. What chong xie calls hyperarch in the foot could be what internal martial arts calls emptiness in the sole of the foot which is triggered by gripping and also pushing off with the big toe. When moving most people use quads for power instead of the intended glutes, power is not being transfering through the tendons... This is shown by Chong Xie in a sensor suite. One must then ask themselves are they really using hip power as they think. In the past without modern shoes one would be naturally starting martial arts at a higher level. I would be interested in Clear's perspective on Chong Xie's information. I think two person drills like pushhands or just pushing a wall its easier to engage the legs properly. But how often does one have a partner? If done properly in Yiquan you push against oneself. Just some of my ideas.. I am still basic but have developed more strength than most in my class.

yiquan seems like a martial art that I would really enjoy doing. I already do standing postures but it would be cool to learn more.
