I'm in the trade, and though it's a bit more pricy, the Geox painters caulk/sealant is fantastic and takes paint beautifully. I love watching your vids, for the novice your teaching style is great and not condescending or patronising. Keep it up fella. 👌

I've been through two of those Screwfix guns, my latest one is a rotating one from Toolstation....seems so much more robust! Can't beat baby wipes for these kind of jobs... so much less messy! I tend to just use them, and skip the blue roll.

I have the same situation - did you end up removing the old or just caulking the gaps in the end?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. You can caulk the gaps if the existing caulk is smooth, or remove all the old and redo. If you remove one some of tge old caulk you maybe left with a slightly rough finish which could give lumpy caulk. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Hi. Thanks for video . I have recently had a joiner install skirting. We have found gaps along most of the new skirting. Is this to be expected or is this down to joiner
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE

Depends if your walls are flat. If they are flat then you probably shouldn't have gaps, but most walls aren't perfect and small gaps are possible. I have been critisised in the past for plastering with skirting in place, but on an old house I often think putting skirting and architrave on first, and then plaster up to it provides a nice straight, gap free look, although frowned upon by many plasterers. But plasterers don't usually fit skirting. When you do it all yourself, you appreciate how one trade can impact on another. Best of luck with it.

No, you'll need to get a colour match caulk. You can get different brands with oak, pine, off white etc colours best suited for the colour of your timber. Hope tgat helps and thanks for watching 👍

Would you still use standard white caulk on natural wood/oak skirting? Or a different product? Thank you!
@jackwardley3626
@jackwardley3626 Жыл бұрын
no you would want to use a brown caulk or a natural wood colour one but as a decorator i tell you that caulk is crap it never lasts that long a lot of time hybrid polymers are the way forward.

Hi mate, great video, how do you the opposite of this on the ceiling were you have the same issue? Had a flood recently from upstairs and the bottom bit of the skirting part (on the ceiling) where the water filtered through means there's cracks. Would you use caulk or normal filler and edge it in nicely with a filer or similar tool?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE 11 күн бұрын
Just use the same caulk and method, then paint over once dry. Best of luck with it.

I am still old skool, use my finger instead of a profile tool. Paint kettle with some water in it with a small sponge for cleaning up any excess chaulk.
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE 3 жыл бұрын
It does work but you can get dirt and muck in it and it does tend to spread a bit up the wall. The profiling kit just keeps it sharp and clean. Thanks for the feedback.

I used this method today having watched a different video and practising. Finger works well for uneven surfaces (plastered ceiling and fitted wardrobe. If it was doing bathroom or skirting I'd use a smoothing tool I reckon. Definitely found a damp piece of foam great for improving the finish
