How to Film a Talk Show | Behind the Scenes: In this video I take you on a recent video shoot I did for a talk show KZfaq channel. It consisted of 10 people sitting around in a semi-circle, talking about different topics. The challenging part was that every person - all 10 - had to be mic’d up.

Thanks for this Marcos! I’m at a stage with my freelance work where I’m starting to get similar jobs to this, so the lighting breakdown, as well as the analysis of what worked/didn’t work was invaluable! Keep up the good work!

The hardest part was putting a mic on everyone and hitting record around the same time. With so many people going at once, it was hard to get them to their seats. I tried to set the audio levels manually for each person, but it was hard because there was a lot of conversations happening in the background. Some of the recorders, I had to run on auto gain because we were on a time crunch.

It would have been way better to have a third person focus only on the audio. However, given the budget, we had to make it work with just the 2 of us. Also, it would be good to have a Producer who keeps us on track and on schedule - we had to take on these two extra roles and it made it more challenging.

Marcos Rocha I know the feeling man. When you’re pretty much the entire show it’s tough. Listen, you did the best you could with the allowed budget and it looks like it came out killer! Appreciate you making this video! Helps to know what I might expect should I be presented with the same scenario down the line.

I don't want to share the exact amount because knowing what I know now, I would have charged way more. This was ku first time doing something like this. We shot 10 Episodes and each episode was about 15 to 22 minutes. I could see something like this costing over $6K to produce using the same equipment and resources.

It Depends :) With a panel of 10 - maybe $8K and up to do it professionally. But, it could be less depending on the experience, cameras, and location. We also created many episodes in 1 day so it was a lot of editing.

Does the 29min time limit on DSLRs affect your workflow? I see some hack theirs to break that limit, but was curious about your approach.
@MarcosRochaTV
@MarcosRochaTV 4 жыл бұрын
The 29min time limit sucks! haha. I had to coordinate with my second shooter to stop the recording on our cameras at different times. I hacked my a7sII to g beyond the 30 minutes, but I haven't done it with the a7III. I've had a couple of circumstances where my camera stopped recording after 30 minutes and I completely missed it!!! This is a major problem when you forget.
