How To Film Cinematic RC Videos

In this video I will show you everything you need to know to make cinematic RC videos using the gear you already have. In this video I go over everything from planning the video, scouting the locations, the gear you can use, how to use that gear, camera settings, story telling, the list goes on. The only thing this video doesn't go over is the post production side of things which if there is enough interest I will go over in a future video. This is the best advice out of all the other videos I have viewed. I always skip the first 2 steps. Planning (story telling) & scouting a location. I guess many of us just starting out and trying to learn 2 thing at once, Car's and Cameras so we forget things. Thanks for providing us with all this valuable information. 👍👍

Honestly some where in here the inspiration came from you and a few others with smaller channels that make content way better then anything I've seen. I love the technical part of filming and seeing what you've done and made has just had me wanting to make this to break that all down. Thanks for stopping by man! Keep up the great work yourself. That latest one you just made running with the gimbal did you speed that up at all? You kept up pretty dam good and kept it smooth too!

@@TheRcCrawlerKing Thanks a lot :) I love the technical part as well, always exciting when you learn something new.. Yeah I've subscribed a month ago, honestly don't know why I haven't done it earlier, shame on me :D Will you make one for the editing part as well? Because I got a lot of requests to do a tutorial on that, but honestly you did a superb job on that video, so I will be pointing people to this video if I get asked again. So therefore I think it would be awesome to do a editing one as well :) No they are all realtime, the slow shutter speed combined with 24fps makes it look a lot faster than it actually is. I'm sure if you would film it in 60fps it wouldn't look remotely as fast :) Before the shoot I noticed that on axis of the gimbal was loose. So I rebalanced that one and tightened it up, so maybe it wasn't perfectly balanced on my last videos. Because I think the shots of this video looked quite a bit smoother compared to my other recent ones..

Every shoot is a challenge. But in a good way. It helps to work with a team too. Spreads the work load and creativity amoungst others rather then just one person.

Wow…just got my first RC inspired by insta go3 and DJI action😎, their magnetic base is good to make a rig. Your video is so helpful! Really have a phobia to take it RC car out…hoping to make a short video..thank you!

A small camera like the Osmo action would make for a great tool to film RC videos both on and off the car!

There is a fair bit on this platform pertaining to the basics of a camera however what we could not find was an combination of RC and camera work. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! We will be making how to edit one as well so stay tuned for that.

All our video editing is done on adobe premiere, final cut, and davinci resolve for color grading. If your finding the actual editing part difficult your may want to look into a gig website such as fiverr where you can hirea freelance video editor for cheap to take care of the cuts for you. They will take your footage for you and put together an amazing edit and send it back to you. However if you're patient we will be releasing a following up video to this that will show you how to edit the RC videos.

RC people usually film in natural scapes. Did you ever try to create a realistic miniature scape that size would match RC scale to creates full realistic illusion ?

I think you may want to checkout the "Call to Crawl" series on my KZfaq channel. That series was filmed in a scale RC park with houses, bridges, and decoration to match the size of the trucks. It's actually the biggest scale RC park in Alberta. Pretty neat stuff!

Just one of the editors that worked on this project a message now. Most of our songs are sourced from Envato Elements. You would be able to find similar songs by going there and using filters for "hard rock" and a slower tempo.

You should mention and work on audio levels. All good content till you go to your video from talking and blow peoples ear drums out with music that is way to loud. Audio can kill a video way more then and bad motion blur.

I think the music is just that powerful. Normalized all audio levels on export to -6db. I think you are onto a next video top though and that is how to record great sounding audio. Made a note of this now and we will get to this in a future video.
