My biggest fear on keeping a journal on a daily basis is telling the truth. I am not a bad person, but I have a lot of secrets and I don’t feel I can write them down and feel comfortable that someone will find them, etc.. I would love to write down my honesty, goodness real guts, but I’m afraid, any hints or tips on how to get past this thanks, Gary

Write down anything on your mind, then burn the page. If you don't have a fireplace or somewhere you could safely do this, you can also shred it. Get yourself a shredder or shredding scissors and shred it once you're done. It gets out of your head but nothing is left on paper for anyone else to see :) Just an idea.

once i glued the two pages together. maybe not the best idea is someone is snooping since they can just rip it apart (it would be a bit ruined BUT still kinda secretive/hard to read), but if u just wanna hide it from yourself (like to clear your mind and never look back) it really works ❤

I consistently kept a journal from about 8 years old until I was like 18 and then adulthood got me. Lol. I am 36 now and using it as kind of creative outlet. I decorate the pages and then write about my day. I find the decorating makes me excited to do it each day.

When I’m sick, I just write on the page really big ‘Sick Day’ and then I doodle around it or add stickers to the page later hen I feel better. Sometimes I’ll journal in bullet points. Like: ‘Sick Day -fever -didn’t leave the bed -feel like crap’ So you can still journal and have some memories for the day, but… no effort.

Hello Carrie, your video showed up on my feed. I think the universe wanted me to hear you. I began journaling when I was 9yrs old and stopped for years after a family member read and shared my journal with others. I began journaling again as an adult when I lived alone. In 2021 I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Had multiple surgeries, lots of complications and now have serious health issues still. I haven’t journaled during any of it, I just couldn’t bear writing down what was happening. I still don’t journal because of chronic pain and health issues, my days are boring and mostly involve my 3 weekly doctors appointments and treatments. I would love some advice on how to motivate oneself to journal when your life is boring and depressing. Thank you for making this video ❤

Hi Felicia❤️ Firstly, I want to say thank you for sharing such a vulnerable comment. I can only imagine the strength you’ve needed to get through your journey thus far. I will absolutely be praying for you… a miracle for your chronic pain and health issues. I made a video titled “journaling through heartbreak” a couple years back. It’s obviously on a different topic, but it sheds light on how I used journaling during a depressing and difficult time for myself. Again, very very different from what you’re going through, so I don’t mean to compare the two at all. But there may be some aspects of that video that could be beneficial to you when looking at journaling during a hard time. As for the boring days, I mentioned in a reply to someone else that I think there is beauty in having repetitive days because it forces us to ~seek out~ something to write about. The little moments amidst the mundane. A small moment of relief, a little win, something to be grateful for. It helps me focus on gratitude or introspection DURING my day because I’m looking for something to write about later. Even if you don’t write about your day specifically, the act of writing itself can be therapeutic and helpful, especially on boring days when your mind may not have been moving as much. Viewing journaling as a ~tool~ and a ~resource~ has been very helpful for me. Regardless, I am so glad to have gotten this chance to connect with you here, and I’m very glad you’re taking care of yourself to the best of your ability. I wish you all the best, and I’m sending much love your way❤️

My biggest problem with journaling is not having motivation and feeling like my life is boring, I feel like I want to write about something interesting but then I remember how nothing is going on so I'm afraid of it being boring and not wanting to read over it again. But i'm still trying to work on my journaling skills regardless so thank you for this carrie

When I feel like nothing is going on to write about I will pick a controversial topic and write what I think about it. Then in a year or so you can flip back and see if your opinions have changed on the subject at all. 😊

I get what you mean because sometimes my work life or home life is repetitive. I have a little list of things I can write about that aren't connected to my day such as; journal prompts, a photo of something and write about that memory, a food wrapper and talk about how much you like it, talk about a book, movie, tv programme you watched recently. It doesn't have to be strictly about what happened that day - you can make your journal anything you want.
@CarrieWalker
@CarrieWalker 10 күн бұрын
Two things!! First- I think there is beauty in having repetitive days because it forces us to find goodness in the mundane (or, at least find something to write about!). I love journaling about stuff like that! The itty bitty little moments that may have been overlooked otherwise. It helps me focus on gratitude or introspection DURING my day because I’m seeking for something to write. Of course you can write about anyyyything else too (like the ideas in this comment chain! I love it!). Second- I would argue that your journal entries don’t always have to be “worthy” of reading back on. Journaling has two sides… writing it and reading back on it! The act of writing alone can be therapeutic and helpful, especially on boring days when your mind may not have been moving as much. Just my thoughts :) sending love!❤️

Amazing Carrie, thank you for sharing your journey! I was heartbroken recently because mold caught onto all my diary notebooks and paper and I've had to have a rough job in trying to save them. This was sadly due to mold spores in my new apartment and I'm looking to move later in the year, but just in general for long term survival make sure to protect and archive all your precious journals in document storage containers. Because I love my diaries so much, I actually recently bought 9 more notebooks and 6 A4 journal notepads so that I can later rewrite my old entries into the new fresh journals when I've time and put these all safely in separate plastic storage boxes. I'm sure once I'm in a new environment it'll be better, but I had to stay here due to homelessness issues. I'm doing the rewriting purely out of sentimental value, so that no matter what, at least the entries chronicled are saved. I've been doing research recently and for long term preservation I would recommend you invest in storage containers, it's so worth it, and every few months wipe the journals down gently with a microfiber cloth of diluted hydrogen peroxide on the covers and alcohol wipes along the page corners, just to be extra safe! You inspire me a lot. I wrote diaries from 2008-2016, so that was 6 day-per-page year diaries, nearly daily like you, and later notebooks for more diary letter entries per week in reflective style, and its such a passion when it becomes a daily treat and the interest picks up momentum I notice when you see how far our journeys go and deepens our self awareness and gratitude for things. But yeah, I'm heartbroken about my diaries getting damaged with mold - I didn't even notice them getting affected for so long as they were safely away in drawers, but the mold got at it somehow.. On the brightside, the new diaries and containers I got for the new ones are at least something and its worth having them preserved for long-term, but those are my thoughts just as one diarist to the next! :)

I'm so sorry you are dealing with trying to save damaged journals. I just wanted to thank you for the good advice on storing journals for preservation because in 2015 I had a devastating house fire. I wasn't too upset about my possessions. Most everything can be replaced. I was however upset at losing the 10 journals I had completed along with photo albums and other memories. I understand how you feel.

@@katiesaylor933 oh god, Katie! I'm so sorry!! I completely understand the loss. But remember this, something that was gained from the creative flow can't be lost and will always serve you in practice in future inspirations you have! I really believe creative inspiration comes from something beyond comprehension, precious, but will always serve you when open to letting it unleash and just come naturally. From diarist to another diarist, we will persevere, and in future definitely consider preserving your journals and diaries in safe containers if possible. Did the house fire destroy the diaries completely or damage them? If only damaged and can decipher the handwriting, etc, consider recording it in other notebooks just to have a record of the entries. Or even from yer own memory write reflectively entries of what those lost papers explored! :) Remember yer never alone, and I wish you the very best in yer exploration of writing in future. ✨🙂

For those that are also reading this, moisture absorption is super important for journals/books/paper.
@Irishjay_94
@Irishjay_94 16 күн бұрын
@@paperstoryjournals Yess! I forgot to add that with my message as well. Because of my context, I put interior dehumidifiers and Silica Gel Desiccant packs in the storage containers to help with the moisture and prevent mold growth. But cleaning the storage containers every few weeks and airing them out with a HEPA Air Purifier every few months helps a lot too. :)

When I started journaling in summer 2023, I was journaling like 1 small paragraph while waiting for unity engine to load. I only had small entries in ballpoint Then I decided to switch to gel pen to journal when I was I was actually sticking to it. With the gel pen, it was less tiring to write with so I started writing longer entries During my 2nd journal was my journaling honeymoon phase so I was writing multiple pages a day with lots of doodles and color I then switched to journaling with fountain pen and how it's my favorite way to journal But my journaling has fallen off since my 3rd journal since the honeymoon phase is over. I still write everyday (only ever missed 1 day but I did manage to catch up and never missed another day again). I write before turning on my laptop after school. I wish I had more color in my entries instead of just paragraphs cause it kinda gets boring to look at once in a while. Been trying to incorporate more doodles to add more color but I'm wondering what more ways I can spice things up and have more color. I have a bunch of colorful markers i've had for like 3 years I really want to use up and recently have been given colorful gel pens for my birthday and I really want to use those things. I'm at my 6th journal but my entries have really gotten bland compared to my 2nd journal, school feels rather repetitive and I also have less time to be creative or write in them. I honestly just write so I can remember high school in the future. Tbh wish I wrote earlier so I had info about middle school too. I'm in my 2nd year of high school which feels very meh but since it doesn't last forever i'd like to have a view on it that isn't rose colored glasses stuff from the future where i'll be an adult living a busy life

Dang Carrie, you HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD with this one!! I've been doing so well in my first journal (in a very long time) and have actually made it past the halfway point in the book. Impressed? HECK YA!! But I do struggle with motivation and especially when I'm deep into my own feelings. I don't always want to address the root of a problem because then I have to own up to it. Whether it was caused by me or by someone else. And some things are just too hard to write about. I start to write about it but then the moment I go into great detail it becomes overwhelming and I shut down and write "to be continued". Sometimes I go back, but often I don't. If I do go back to it, it's often weeks or months later. And even then I feel like I have to kick myself in the pants to find the motivation to do that. I would LOVE a video on diving more in depth with addressing these complications so that I can feel a bit more confident about opening up and "spilling the tea" even if it's just to myself. Sending much love your way! Stay Golden BesTea! 💯💛💖

I love to journal but for a while now… I’ve been struggling to sit down and journal. I was journaling almost everyday to where I’m now not journaling at all it feels. I feel like it’s similar to a reading slump but it’s a journal slump. Though, I’m just having a life slump anyways. Work, I’m fine, personal life, not so much. So, I’ve been trying to get a dog from the pound. I want to adopt this dog that was abused and neglected but I have to go through my landlords first but they won’t allow me to have her until I get an ESA letter…. I feel like once I have her, I’ll have a reason to live again like I did when I got my basset hound. Which, I miss her too so much! She’s at my parents too because I can’t have her at my apartment and she loves the country (where they live) so it’s so hard to get her to want to stay with me here.

I have found the book “Writing your Dissertation in Fifteen Minutes a Day” by Joan Blocker to be helpful. Some of the tips she gives are covered in this video. Carrie if you read this, I think you would like this book, and your school library should have a copy you can read for free. One trick I have found useful: if in the course of journaling I find myself writing an essay that is too long to finish, is to take it to a separate notebook. That way I’m not blocked from journaling on other topics until I find time to finish the essay. I will often write a rough draft in a loose leaf binder before writing in a bound notebook. The rough draft makes sure I don’t forget anything, and lets me work on the best sequence of paragraphs and ideas in the essay to insure clarity. The bound note book preserves my thoughts for future reference, and can serve as an intermediate draft for future work.

I actually got into journaling because of my middle school counselor. She told me to start journaling everyday and not just totally writing out everything she told me to write down the good things that happened that day. So ever since then I've been writing in journals only in bullet points of good things that happened that day. But I haven't been doing it everyday there are some times where I haven't journaled for like 3 months and then one random day I'll do it because I did something fun that day and I want to write it down. Like today I'm probably going to because it was the last day of school and I want to write that down. And yes my handwriting in them is so messy but I do write in all different colors so it makes it look a little bit better. But I am one of those people where I get kind of mad that my handwriting is so messy.

But I don’t want to journal on my phone because I enjoy analog so I just don’t end up journaling at all. Is there any way to break that barrier and make it easier to start writing things down?

I would like to say that her channel before she Talked about her religon like not all her videos wear great before and I know some peploe like religon channels but the main foucs of her channel is journailing so in she adds religon in the mix she will atract pepole how like channel that talk about there religon but it is not her 100 percent pasion so like one mistake and she stop foucasing a lotor to much on on religon and will have to try to get her channel baset on journailing agian but it will be harder and she cooled end up loosing her suscribers viwers and have to stop making youtube videos so she shouid stick to her passion jouriling and not religon so she dosent lose her channel so no more religon and try to stick to mostly jouriling so she dosent have to quit youtube i am wanning you stop taking about your religon on youtube and dont on instergram to ok or you will lose your youtube and instergram actount i tryed to woren you but you never listen I toled you so.
