Latino Pilots Association also offers scholarships. Also, Status Financial offers loans for pilots. They are a pilot owned institution.

The Flight School I went to now has a significant waiting list and really does not want to train private pilots. Their specialty is training CFI’s and multi engine. They are also now in their worst weather of the year. I am not currently affiliated with any flight schools. I simply have a stable of aircraft that my students are able to rent.

Do you know if there’s any programs I could look into through work? I’m an aircraft mechanic for Delta. But I’ve always wanted my private pilot. The women in aviation scholarship you spoke about says I have to be a member but it offers a corporate option, so I’m wondering if delta is already a part of that and if there’s a pathway I could take through work? I’m 41 and currently work in engineering for United. I recently made the decision to pursue becoming a pilot. I feel a ton of pressure to go as fast as possible because I’ve heard this pilot need will stop soon. Part 141 offers the most peace of mind when it comes to repayment but 2 years to get your certs seems like it will go beyond the hiring initiatives. Not sure which direction to take if there’s a rush. I’ve heard horror stories of repaying part 61 loans, and saving up, although I’m making good money, will take a long time. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

If you are worried about a hiring slow down or layoffs and getting a seniority number in the shortest amount of time possible, would be the thing I would focus on most. So, with that in mind, part 61 is the only way to go in my opinion. Please take my opinion with a grain of salt. Remember… I have not been in this industry for very long.

I guess that is kind of a personal preference. In my case, I was happy to do it on my own. For other people, they may prefer to have an instructor. There is no best method.

Might've been answered in the comments but when I looked into alot of the loans they were mostly for 141 students. Sallie Mae even needed a school ID and didn't seem to just accept the flight school ID. Do most of these loans require 141 or do some of them allow part 61 students? Thank you for these videos! I actively wait for the next one each time.

@@trent_dyrsmidSallie Mae only offers loans to flight schools they are partnered with. They also tend to request the flight school charge significantly more for attendance. In my area flight schools that are with sallie mae cost around 105k vs 50k without sallie mae

When I applied online for a Sallie Mae loan, I had my approval in about three minutes. It’s just a computer system that reviews your application.

Have you heard anything about the company (AMAS I believe) in Colorado that helps people with the medical certificate? I'm jumping through a few hoops before I contact them but apparently they assist in getting the FAA to expedite a certification. I've taken and failed one physical so far. The doctor gave me their name and number to try to get things moving better. He said it was around $800 or so to hire them. Any thoughts?

I don't know them, but my son had a few issues with his medical and AOPA was really helpful. They have a knowledgable medical team there and are available to answer questions (and perhaps more) for AOPA members. Best of luck!

Best case is if you have a family member or close friend that can be a signer or co-signer for one of these private loans, but if not it’s pretty hard to get financial assistance as an international student in the U.S. A thing you could do is get a loan from your home country and use that money to study here.

You’d have to check with them. I believe it’s for either.

Hello. I am currently residing in Ontario Canada and am looking for a student loan for flight school. Did a lot of research and visited all banks but no luck. Could you suggest something for these flight schools in the GTA. I am passionate about becoming a pilot since I was 9 and am having a very hard time starting off.

Hi, Trent. What would you suggest when a person, such as myself, doesn't have the 670+ score, needs the financial help, and....here's the kicker - wants to gain certification through Part 61 private instructor (without flight school status in other words)? (Hope this made sense and straight to the point.) Thank you for your time and help. -- Matthew

The only thing I can think of is to train in a light sport. I will have a video out probably Tuesday with an interview with a pilot that went from zero to ATP for under $35,000.

Awesome, Trent. I'm looking forward to it. Perhaps you may ask their thoughts or ideas about financing in order to get started with Part 61. Yes, as some have said, I could save until I have all the money; however, by the time that was done, prices will more than likely go higher than what they are now, and I wouldn’t be any younger. (I'll be 50 later this year.) I don't have a car payment so to me, it would be like paying on a new car. Instead, it is just a new adventure chapter in my life, and planned accordingly, a new career. (Or as its been wisely and creatively said, Career 2.0 😊 ) Thank you again. Have a great and safe day. - Matthew

Depends on the school. Some P61 schools have financing. Most don’t.

Student loans, financial aid, all useless to me for now. My college’s program stopped offering AER 151, private pilot flight training. So now anyone interested in their career pilot program has to find a way to get their PPL rating out of pocket.

My comment got deleted somehow, not sure what happened. One loan program that’s available for flight students is Meritize. My flight school uses them.
