Adalia, this was a very informative video that provided detail information about best way to find an apartment, locations -pros & cons of living in different neigborhoods with access to public transit, traffic, higher cost of living in expat communities. Your teaching skills were highlighted with using Spanish terminology and reference to delegations similar to counties in the USA. These are typically the things people gloss over or do not share. The process of apartment renting was SUPERB! Be aware of scams. Key questions to ask before renting was so helpful for people thinking about renting in Mexico City or Mexico. Thank you for sharing your personal rent-$640, square footage with us. I know the pesos value fluctuates daily. I would like to suggest for the next video additional information about the best tool to use for the conversion from dollars to pesos; how to determine the income level of various neighborhoods in Mexico City and Non-Catholic church information.

I have a close friend who lives in Santa Fe. It's very nice and modern but doesn't feel "Mexican" along the lines of Polanco (ie $$$). It's a part of the city that it's best to have a car since the metro doesn't go out there. You could Uber but it could get pricey.

@AdaliaAborisade
@AdaliaAborisade 3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Normally, short-term leases are hard to come by here but due to the pandemic, some Airbnb hosts are doing them (outside of the platform) because they don't want to commit to anything longer in hopes of getting back to doing Airbnb which is more lucrative for them. From time to time you can also find people looking to sublet their apartments in FB groups.

I am so very nervous. It seems as though you had a career. I have nothing to retire from. I have being taking care of every sick person in the family. Now I am wanting something for myself. I don’t have to worry about selling or getting rid of a lot of stuff. I don’t have very much. Had a fire 🔥 a year ago lost everything. So I guess that is a good thing . No mementos to worry about. I watch your other video. You talked about selling your car. I was just thinking I don’t have anything to worry about. I am excited. I thought about the house sitting. I am just not use to being around animals. Just need direction.

Hi Adalia, this is a very thorough and professional video which has answered many questions for me. What would you suggest for me: I would like to see as many towns in Mexico as possible on my first visit. I am used to being culturally entertained with theatre, concerts, movies, museums, etc. But I am pretty sure that at the end of the day I don’t want to be in the city. Calm for me would be access to water, beach, parks, neighborhood artisans and family owned authentic restaurants. I have 2 pomapoos that need time outside and are used to a fenced yard. I am not interested in living in the expat bubble. And I will not be bringing a car. How long would a “tour” reasonably take and can that happen this summer with pandemic? Also, I need counseling on how to make my money go as far as possible. I do not have a pension. Selling my home will be my source of income. Haven’t figured out how to supplement that. Very interested, if you are amenable, to hire you for advice and counsel. If that is possible, plz contact me. I’ve watched so many videos that I may have hindered instead of helped!😬 Thanks so much!
@AdaliaAborisade
@AdaliaAborisade 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Teal, I think you could definitely do your tour over a month or two this summer. It will be really important for you to have your list criteria to evaluate each locale since you may have to limit how much time you have on the ground. Getting around Mexico via bus or using something like Blablacar is an option if you'd rather not fly. We can definitely work out a plan of action for you. You can book me here > bit.ly/askadalia

I said this before, but I was very lucky to find a furnished stand alone house in Coyoacan through Airbnb. I was able to inspect it before I accepted it. I was absolutely lucky in finding it for such a cheap price. There's houses directly beside it or behind it. It's totally stand alone house. I talked to a realtor once and she only wanted to help her client sell their apartment in hopes I would rent it. NOT! So, that's what they do down here unfortunately.

If you want to stay somewhere 1-2 months, would it be advisable to get an airbnb for ~1 wk and if you like it, try to negotiate with the owner off platform for a longer stay discount? Or would that make the owner nervous? Sounds like putting a call out in an expat group with your parameters may also be good for 1-2 months... What format do owners typically want to be paid in (e.g. physical pesos)? Should you expect to get an agreement in writing for 1-2 mos? Is wifi typically included and how do you know the quality?
@AdaliaAborisade
@AdaliaAborisade 3 жыл бұрын
If you're staying for just a couple of months Airbnb is probably your best option but posting in the FB groups is a good idea as well. You may get someone looking to sublet. I've paid rent in cash or you can to the the Oxxo (like 7-11) and pay cash and they will deposit it electronically into someone's account. Wifi is generally included in short-term rentals.

The easiest way to get rid of stuff if you leave is to sell in the foreigner FB groups. That's where I bought my sofa for half of what it would retail for. In a city like this one, there are people constantly coming and going so there's always someone looking to buy.
