Looking for Portals in No Man's Sky? This is how you find portals and how to use them when you are looking for the best ships and coolest locations in No Man's Sky. The Living Ship and Exo Mech update changed some things so there are a few things you have to do differently than before. The biggest thing is getting maps from the cartographer, but that is easy and fast.

clear explanation as always and i did learn something , I did not know if you changed the colour of beacon it change colour of the location marker you see from space,with being partly colour blind i never normally bother with colour charts,So now i can use the colours i can make out nice one cheers

Just going to add on a little bit. If you elect to collect the glyphs through doing the Artemis storyline, you actually visit several portal locations during the story. Make sure to bookmark or build a base at one and you can easily skip the whole process of having to find a new one later.

Portals need to charged up if you find 2 portals in different systems an know at least one portal address you can travel there an back again because the portal stays open until it runs out of power, easy way to find a portal without maps or monoliths is every weekend the Nexus weekend event will show you a portal in the system your in were you called the Nexus, If you don't want to try the Event just place a marker an charge the portal up an learn the Address an it will show up once you've charged it an you can cancel the event at the Nexus before the timer runs out an wont fail the Event.

Man after 2 hours of searching after watching some other guys vid, I found this vid and it got me right to it simple and Str8 to the point. It took 6 maps to finally get a monolith but hey. Thanks man I'm going to sub for sure.

If you are playing through the storyline, you also come across portals as well, when you do, slap down a base terminal next to the portal and you'll be able to revisit later once you've got all the glyphs :)

for those who havr accidentally an exo vehicle with a fully upgraded scanner: use your scanner in the quick menu to search for monoliths ; )

Top tip - just build a base computer next to the monolith you find, rename it monolith and don’t build anything. Now you can just teleport there at any time from any portal 👌🏼

When travelling to points on the other side of the planet, fly straight up to space first then pulse it to the point of interest, saves so much time. You don't need to use regular engines.

A great help and fantastic work by the poor person who had to work it all out. It's nice that people have left messages and things but they sometimes blot out the Grave marker in space - I nearly couldn't find the second from this base because of it.

Small note on economy scanners: Use them.on the planet you wish to find a trade post on. If you use it from space, you won't always get the planet nearest you. This isn't always convenient. In terms of the race specific artifacts: Those starting out in the game, these artifacts are definitely something you place in storage as this is the main use for them. So as soon as you unlock storage containers,dedicate a row in a container to these. Have the same storage container in your freighter (that's why they're numbered), so that you can summon the freighter, and thus your artifacts, to whichever system you have found the portal on. Lastly, and I think it's easy to miss this: It's better to build a base near or at the portal. You will very likely want to use the portal A LOT. So rather have a dedicated location for the galaxy you're in. Then should you leave that galaxy, you still have a way to get to a portal. Portals will only take you locations within their current galaxy, unfortunately. And nice video as always Jason.

A lot of good information there. I sold all of my artifacts 1000 years old artifacts. Some are >2000 years old. I'm not sure why I keep them because I'm out of storage even after selling my container full of S class ship upgrades. I did build a base close to my first portal with a teleporter for anyone to use. The current portal I found someone had already built a base with transporter there so I'll just use their transporter. I did find out the hard way last night about trying to use the portal to go to a different galaxy. I kept getting error message about the target planet being corrupted and something about an alternate location. When I finally realized I was trying to warp to a different galaxy I understood why I was getting the error.

@@valenesco45 make sure in nms settings turn multi-player off and also if its a ship that goes into a space station or trading outpost reload your save after exiting your ship.

I like to build bases right in front of the portals and use them for a staging area to build more bases on the other end. If you have storage devices at the base, you can charge the portal using whatever is in the storage devices. So if you have a lot of resources, you can keep recharging it and using it perpetually.

funny thing happened, when doing a job to get enough units to buy the components for the economy scanner what used to be a 500,000 reward became an 5,000,000 because of all the bones i got i think 2 or 3 was the golden skull thing

Or fully upgrade your exocraft scanner. Mech has different scanning options than the others but I can usually avoid using consumable maps.

Exotic Ship (Gravity Song): Bird, Sunrise, Cresent Moon, Teepee, Sunrise, Map Marker, Sunrise, Triangle, Weird Y symbol, Vortex, Weird Face Symbol two times. Edit: The weird face symbol is between the Diplo and bird symbols at 9:30. It needs to be pressed 2x. Top right around the 1 o'clock position.

You didn't have enough materials to fully charge it, there should be one that isn't 100% charged, all of them should be 100%

You can check the status of the Glyphs before you hop into your ship to see if they need any repair by going to "Catalogue" and hovering the cursor over each one. If you are hours away from the Ancient structure, go up into space and hyperdrive in seconds to the target. 😎

Bro i buyed a alien map and the monolith was a fail so i was going to give up and continue doing the story. And as i landed on a planet there was a monolith randomly next to me. It showed me a portal. I was extremely lucky

I restarted playing this again, and have only started to get into the game as a whole. Thankfully streamers like yourself are out there and offer a gold mine of knowledge to noobs like myself. Thank you so much. Also I accidentally found a portal on my second system trip. But the save beacon tip definitely is worth it! I'd have not realized it until I left. So when I finally have enough resources.. I'm heading to that portal and setting up shop near it. Thanks again!

I love this game, and I'm able to play it because of your help, Jason. Thank you for that. One thing that drives me bonkers however is the following. When I materialize on the other end of a Warp, it says "Thisnthat System, First Contact!" And the first thing I see, apart from 10,000 asteroids, is a space station peopled with a three common alien races that I know. So how is this First Contact? Next, I go to the moon of the smallest planet and land. It says First Contact as soon as I get out of my ship. But I landed at a settlement. I can already talk to the aliens there and buy and sell stuff. There's buildings. Drives me crazy. :-)

Great walkthrough, super helpful. Maybe you already posted a video for what I’m about to request, I’ll check now, but I’d love to see a walkthrough for buying a new freighter when you’ve already got one...with an elaborate base already built on it...and packed with storage. You dont have to go to a trading station to get those items, whatever system your in, if your on your freighter or your base with extra landing pads. You can buy the stuff off them

You don’t even have to worry about the riddle for the monolith as there are websites that show each outcomes of the choices, google Monolith puzzles nms and there should be top 2 that would have all the answers you need, it saves a small chunk of time.

I just had to find a portal yesterday on the new planet I relocated to. Everything you talked about that could happen did happen to me. I did end up with an ancient artifact and extra keys to add to the other extra keys I have. I also did chose the wrong reply and had to reset just like you said could happen. Even though I've found a few portals (a couple just out exploring and happened up on them) I always enjoy watching your videos. BTW after using so many drop pods to max out my exosuit i'm constantly having drop pod locations marked even though I didn't search for them. I'm also finding them randomly while searching for other things.

Jason, you are a beginner's guide master! Your videos got me fully set up in the game, S class everything, max slots, mega rich and the reddit. However I'm 180 hours in and finished the story and I'm currently galaxy hopping and exploring. I find myself clicking off your videos about a third of the way through because I don't know why I am here, apart from being a fan of you helping me and many like me. Just a thought. I know I’m a bit late but I kinda just started playing the game, about 110 hours in now. I play on ps4 and thought the no man’s sky coordinate exchange/every video I’ve watched didn’t work until I realized the base I set up next to a portal was for whatever reason in the Eissantam galaxy. So none of the glyphs I entered ever worked because I was trying them in the wrong galaxy. So now I’ve came to this video to find a portal in the Euclid galaxy 🤣

Jason, your videos have helped me with so many things! Please explain "Portal Interference" and what to do about it. I worked hard and long to collect all 16 glyphs, and find a portal. I'm able to use it, but always end up on a different planet than the coordinates described. There are no options for base building or teleporting. All I can do is go back through the portal to where I started. I'm on ps4, if that makes any difference. Are the portals not working as they should, or am I missing something?

you going after a living ship Bob ? portal coordinates ? when you locate a portal learn its address an screen shot it like Jason says in his location vids, if you know the destination portal address an it's correct it should take you there I've used portals hundreds of times without any issues on PS4 & PC an since the crossplay update I've been using portals to share various items with my saves on both platforms never had an "Interference" notification yet been playing since 2016 an using portals since they started working, the names of the Glyph's can have several descriptions if your reading the destination off the Cracking Void egg look on the NMS wiki for the 16 Glyph's an the names & descriptions (take a photo it comes in handy before you now the various names & descriptions), hope this helps anyway Bob good luck.

I cant even find a damn monolith. The charts only take me to plaques.

I used all ten of my maps, and only finding ancient artifacts. I mean, getting a lot of knowledge but cant seem to score the Monolith. Im in Euclid Galaxy, dont know if they have Monoliths there. Any tips ?

A way to travel fast on a planet to yk get to the other side is to go slightly into space just out of the orbit then you should be able to pulse drive to your destination really easily
