Come hang out with me while I show you around one of my favorite websites and introduce a new series of videos! Ewg.org will tell you what ingredients are in cleaners and cosmetics, and if those ingredients are safe or not. It's a great resource for anyone trying to live cleaner and greener.
I chat about how to navigate ewg.org with an example and about the non-profit organization who founded this resource. Also, this video mentions a lot of disclaimers and context for the new series of videos I will be doing! Giddy-up, we're going for a ride.

“Illuminati!” 😂 I was dying. Haha. You are so funny, but this was a good video! It was interesting learning about this site and how in-depth they go with examining and testing these products. How horrible you found “urea” in that clay mask stuff! 😟 Gross! I just don’t understand why companies want to use toxic and horrible ingredients. Probably because it is cheaper to manufacture somehow, but it doesn’t make sense to me. I am excited about this new series, though! Yay! 🙌

Lol! Awww thanks! Yeaaaah, it's kind of odd. I guess the function for that specifically was a preservative but, aren't there other options?! haha. I think I have an idea of why they use them. I don't imagine it's to cause harm intentionally. I just think these chemicals make their product desirable by achieving certain attributes: like a good lather, keeps the product cohesive, smells nice, makes the product the best at getting out stains, the product has a longer shelf life, etc. Because all of the chemicals usually have some kind of function in the product. And, like you said, I think a huge part of it is that the price is right for the companies regarding these chemicals. As consumers, we generally like products that have those attributes, so it creates a demand, which creates a market for those types of products. Not that companies are deliberately trying to hurt people, but they are focused on reducing costs (cheap ingredients) and getting sales (beating competition via desirable product with desirable qualities). There's a chance companies know their products could be harmful, but I'm sure sales just simply come first. That's my theory haha that's the only way I've been able to rationalize it. I actually touched on this lightly in the next video I did. Maybe it should be a whole video of its own?! I dunnoo haha Unpopular opinion lol. OMG what a rant.

@@aubra_dash No, it's good! ^_^ Would be interesting to discuss if you did a whole video on it, but I think you've rationalized it pretty well. It is true about those certain attributes. That is what I have observed that drives the waste of our grocery stores too. Consumers expect an apple or an orange to look a certain way, and won't buy it if there are "flaws" - or more accurately what we are perceiving as flaws. So, companies have that incentive to use dangerous products and cause waste because of that demand. Yet who was originally at fault? The store for shaping our perceptions? Or have we shaped our own perceptions of how we want our products to be?? Hmm! 🤔 It is something to ponder, but I am very much in agreement with you. I don't think - ultimately - many companies seek out to harm either, it is just something that happens, falling through the cracks. 😕 I just know that if I were a company, I would only want the best quality of ingredients, with the most efficient and sustainable practices. To me that is smarter and thinking long term, rather than short term gain.
