I used my Fujitsu Lifebook 17 for 16 years. Last 10 years it was on Linux life support. 2 years ago I put an ssd in it. Its max ssd was a IDE 120GB. I bought a 100GB ssd and ide to Sata adapter that fit my laptop. I had to take the ssd board out of its case. Last month I replaced it with an LG Gram 17.

Hello. I find this video flawed since you also have PATA connected 2.5" SSD drives, which would FURTHER give compatibility for SSD drives. PATA-drives use the "old" interface for connecting drives, and comes in both HD and SSD flavour drives. Advantage here is that you can use PATA-drives that are SSD (no rotating parts) in older laptops to give them a new life. For office applications and such, often changing to a PATA SSD instead of a PATA Hard Drive would give a significant speed improvement and more protection for traveling. I find it strange that you did not mention that PATA drives are compatible with even older machines than 10 years old. SATA is the standard that came after PATA. PATA is the portable version of ATA/IDE drives. Boof

The video its not bad, but you can change name, cuz dont show exactly what is writen there! I have a laptop, with factory HDD and try to find out if he can use SSD, but i video you show only info for SSD and how to see what drive we use in this moment, not what drive we can use at all...

I installed an M.2 SSD in my laptop last year and it ended up burning my motherboard. Now I am scared to upgrade my new laptop. Do we need to worry about insulation when installing M.2 SSDs? All I see on KZfaq is people inserting them and screwing them in.

You shouldn’t have to worry-I’m not sure how the ssd managed to burn your motherboard My guess is that it was an electrical short and that’s what caused the burn, unless you are slamming the drive with video editing and other intense tasks, your ssd shouldn’t reach temps that can burn things

@@ryanwallace983 I had something similar happen with my laptop - I added a Samsung 960 Evo NVMe SSD even though it wasn't on the approved list, figuring that a name brand would be fine, and someone on the user forums said it worked in his. Nope. I eventually started getting weird data loss errors, CPUID HW Monitor said the SSD was nearly 70C at idle, and the secondary SATA HDD was returning read/write speeds of 70MBs/60MBs. I put in a Corsair P2 NVMe SSD that *was* on the approved list, did an OS reinstall, and now everything is running cool and normally. Maybe it's related to the m.2 slot in my laptop supporting either SATA or NVMe? (shrugs)

@@CantankerousDave sounds more like a bad drive than anything else-if your laptop manufacturer really didn’t want you using that drive then the system bios would simply not initialize it-a bad drive would give you errors tho
