How do we find our purpose? Do we need purpose in work if we already find purpose in life? Yeah, we’re answering those kinds of questions this week, and we have Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor to give us the answers! Aunjanue tells us what it was like to work as an actor without receiving mainstream recognition for decades and how she found purpose in her work even when it felt like her path was uncertain. She also gives us the behind-the-scenes story of her viral social moment that blew us away! Plus, Sharon lets us in on what she thinks her hilarious purpose in life is - we really can’t blame her for this one!

I cannot believe Aunjanue Ellis felt nobody was watching her. She is so magnetic and a transcendent actress! My family and I watched The Book of Negros all together one Thanksgiving and I was immediately captivated. It’s been Aujanue ever since for me!

This is soo strange- how these sisters create an entire episode just for me? Talking right to me- reminding me of the things I need to be reminded of. That's why I keep KeKe on my work play list.....

Her work was brilliant on Lovecraft Country she embodied that character as well as the iconic Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. Her artistic skill is to be marveled and appreciated 👏🏽. I can't wait to see her in more roles that reflect her depth of acting skills.

Seeing keke wearing this same dress in a few of the recent videos made me realize how many episodes they shoot in a single day & realizing that, made me realize how many times Keke & Sharon gotta pretend to say “hey & bye” like it’s their first time 😂😂🤣😭😭

Two things I hope people comprehend: 1. An artist/entertainer income is not always their own, but it's shared and spread across their community. 2. Depending on your marginalizations, your craft isn't only your own, you have to present and represent in a way that is meaningful for your community. ❤ (only 23mins into the video).

i watched this yesterday on spotify and was super thirsty for it to load here. loved Loved LOVED this episode. The "you see who im with" was SO funny to me. that was SO real. I LOVEEEEE me some Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. Love her reasoning behind her hyphenated last name too. Everything is so intentional and that DEEPLY resonates.

I think humans use the word ‘purpose’ to give a meaning to their life, otherwise they would feel lost and would think that there is no reason for them to exist; that their existence is not worth anything. It’s kind of yet another label that people find strength and solace in, something greater than themselves that quiets their worries. But personally, I think the ultimate act of self love is realizing that I was not put on this earth for one specific reason. I do not exist in order to achieve something, I exist simply to exist. I breathe because I breathe, simple as that haha. Now yes there are things in life that I want to achieve and messages I want to pass on, but they aren’t the only reason for me to be alive. Without them, I still am. My purpose lies in the simple act of life, of being alive :’) What I’m saying is kind of similar to the theme of the Disney film Soul

Only thing I really didn’t like was if she went out of her way not to say who she was taking care of, it wasnt Keke’s place to reveal that info. Maybe she did slip up and say info she already had but it’s just something to be more cognizant of in the future. Other than that really interesting interview.
