This video gives a complete experimental procedure in hindi to find the radius of curvature of plano-convex lens by using spherometer.
Spherometer is a small precision instrument for measuring the radius of curvature of spherical surfaces. They can also be used to measure the thickness of a thin plate. A spherometer works on the principle of the micrometer screw. Spherometer consists of a metallic tripod framework supported on three fixed legs of equal lengths. A screw passes through the centre of the tripod frame, parallel to the three legs. A large circular disc graduated with 100 equal parts is attached to the top of the screw. A small vertical scale known as the Pitch scale (P) with the scale reading divided into millimeters is fixed at one end of the tripod frame. This video is useful for UP polytechnic 1st semester students, 11th,12th U.P., CBSE | NEET | IIT- JEE | and other competitive exams.
Newton's rings is a phenomenon in which an interference pattern is created by the reflection of light between two surfaces; a spherical surface and an adjacent touching flat surface. It is named after Isaac Newton, who investigated the effect in 1666. When viewed with monochromatic light, Newton's rings appear as a series of concentric, alternating bright and dark rings centered at the point of contact between the two surfaces. When viewed with white light, it forms a concentric ring pattern of rainbow colors, because the different wavelengths of light interfere at different thicknesses of the air layer between the surfaces. The pattern is created by placing a very slightly convex curved glass on an optical flat glass. The two pieces of glass make contact only at the center. At other points there is a slight air gap between the two surfaces, increasing with radial distance from the center.
