This brief video provides a quick tutorial for how to use the Medicare Plan Finder to find the most cost-effective Part D Prescription Plan.
There are about 25 different Part D Plans in each state and this tool allows an individual to quickly review the costs for each of these plans based upon their specific list of medications.
We highly recommend taking advantage of the Annual Election Period (Oct 15 - Dec 7) each year to review your Part D prescription plans because the Part D Plans change every year... so even if your prescriptions haven't changed, your current Part D Plan may no longer be the most cost-effective for you in the following year.

I have several expensive meds, however usually a discount card makes the medications cheaper than the Drug Plan Copay, and if you do Not qualify for "Extra Help" , there is still usually the option of getting the medications directly from the manufacturer - for free. For many a spreadsheet is required, instead of just looking up the Part "D" plans in the Medicare, or letting an Agent direct you to a single solution.

Thank you watching the video and for the feedback. When we do the analysis tor our clients, we certainly check for discount coupons that can sometimes provide lower cost sharing than the Part D plans. Regarding manufacturer discounts, those generally are not available to people on Medicare.

I start Medicare in my birth month of December 2024 along with a supplement and a Part D Plan. Will my Plan D rate change the first of the year or is it locked in for one year until December 2025 ?

Hello - Part D premiums are based on calendar year. So your Dec 2024 premium could very well differ from your 2025 Part D premiums. We will be happy to help you get setup for Dec 1 when you are ready. 908-272-1970

When comparing plans is there an easy way to see which drugs are covered under particular Plan's formulary or not? Right now it just shows bunch of numbers without actually letting user know if its covered or not.

Hi Alexander - yes, the Plan Details page shows which drugs are covered and what Tier they are for each plan. Scroll towards the bottom of the page and “View More Drug Coverage” details.

Just played with the medicare site and it doesn't even have my script. When I clicked, add, it said I had to add a prescription - no thanks, I'll stick to my local pharmacy.

Hello. Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. I’m not sure what you mean by “add a prescription”. To add a drug to your analysis, you just type in the drug name as explained in the video; you don’t need the prescription to run a model /analysis in the Medicare Plan Finder.

@@SeniorAdvisorsMedicare When I entered the name of the medication, nothing came up. It requires the drug name which I typed in the first place but it does not acknoiwledge it. I scrolled through t"Browze Drugs" and it is not listed.

Hello. The government pays the Part D plans for each member that enrolls in the plans.

You have to jump through hoops if you're prescribed a med that is not on the list. Took my husband 2 months. He no longer uses Wellcare and I sure as heck won't if I need meds.

All these privatization bravado magicians get $12000 grants from there puppets in legislatures who all patronize US citizens as if they are toddlers. Then they will pretend to give a freebies only to collect more from you. Switch to Medicare supplement and demand national wide insurance pool as well as coverage.

Hello Bob - what specifically are you confused about? If you have low cost generics, it will have no real impacts on your costs. If you have a high cost/tier drug, you will need to pay the full cost of the drug until you reach the deductible. Then, you will have a copay/coinsurance for your drug. Senior Advisors calls me 5 times a day and won't stop. Innappropriately harrasing and lack integrity. Should be illegal. No amount of asking them to stop calling has worked. I am not doing business with an unethical group who's relentlessly harrassing seniors.
