Welcome to Summer of Self Ep 4: Work out your Core Values With Me! 🦋This will help you get to know yourself and understand yourself better by asking questions about what is important to you in different scenarios! This contributes to clearer decision-making, self love, and clarity on your values in relationships and work life! As you can see, it's not easy to choose... The exercises in this video are a combination of a workshop I did at uni, questions I found online and other videos which I will leave linked down below :)
What are some of your core values? 🌞
Journal Prompt Exercises:
1. Take a look at this list of values (you can use any on Google Images!): thehappinessplanner.com/pages...
2. Write down ~10-15 which resonate with you
3. Write down the most important experiences which have shaped your life
4. Reflect on what these experiences were a means to an end of. What feeling did you want to achieve?
5. Cross off values until you land at 5.
6. Litmus Test these values with the following Qs: would I give up one of these values for £1 million?
7. Have you ever lost these values in times of stress?
8. Will you likely still have the same values in 20-50 years?
9. If yes, these values are likely core to you!

To anyone who needs to hear this: it's not really possible to be able to recognise what your core values are if you spent years in survival mode. Give yourself credit for what you have done already and DO NOT FEEL GUILTY about others' progress 🌿✨
@stellwyn

I needed this, thank you. Since the pandemic I've felt so out of tune with myself and my values, because I've just been surviving. I know I'm not living the way I want to be right now, but it's what I had to do to get through! But this exercise is a nice chance to try and reconnect with my pre-pandemic self.

So true, i spent my whole life in survivor mode and the pandemic woke me up and I realised i wasnt doing anything I love I just did what was expected of me. Now that I realised that i try to make time for my passion.

The best part about getting older is how the strong need to search for your own identity subsides, and then you discover so much more outside yourself.

That’s very true. It’s a process we all go through and very natural and important for young adults finding their own way in the world - something I definitely struggled with in my 20s. Once you become at peace with who you are, losing the need to constantly define yourself, you are able to be so much more open to the world.

Sounds like something to look forward to. Constantly questioning myself and finding out new things about myself feels like it's necessary and helpful at the moment, but it's also soo draining and stressful.

How old are we talking about? Not to be intrusive and inquire about your age, I'm just curious as to when I'll be able to take the break of constantly being in my own little world. It's necessary but also intimidating to be always analysing oneself tbh

I did this exercise all the way through with you and I discovered that out of my initial core value picks of security, stability, structure, comfort, order, and control, I chose support. Because I realized I don't need to be comfortable or in charge, I just need to know someone is there to bail me out if I don't want to do it or hype me up if I do. Thanks.

Working out my core values (altruism, connection, personal growth, well-being) a few months after graduating was life changing for me - life is so much more peaceful when you’re living in alignment with your values. It helped me figure out where to concentrate my efforts looking for a job and resulted in a fulfilling career I love. It’s also a really useful tool when I’m find anything difficult; I can so much more easily identify why something is challenging me and what I can do to overcome that. Would recommend everyone finding theirs out💛

My core values are: 1. Insight 2. Self-security and confidence that allows me to be sincere with myself and others 3. Communication, connection and compassion 4. Growth 5. Presence and dedication I found it interesting that they passed all the test questions but one, the "Have I sacrificed these in times of stress?" question. I find that under a lot of stress I tend to sacrifice them, especially the 5th - presence and dedication, which to me is necessary to feel happiness and see meaning in anything, and then gradually with more stress I sacrifice other ones, too. I wanted to share this observation because I feel like this is an interesting starting point for getting better at dealing with stress - remembering your core values!

This video came out a year ago but this is what I came up with for my core values: 1. Mental & physical health 2. Growth & awareness (I feel like these go hand-in-hand) 3. Openness 4. Connection & compassion Also: Would I ever sacrifice these, or have I when I was really stressed? The short answer is yes, I have. For example during burnout I definitely sacrificed my physical health and growth, but I also believe that practicing things that were aligned with these values brought me back to myself and made me feel alive again. Because of this, I still believe that these are my core values. I think living every day of our lives according to our values is a huge pressure, because sometimes it's very hard to stick to. You could say that if it's so hard to stick to, then they're not your core values, but I still feel like they could be. We're not perfect, and sometimes the values that resonate with us most are the things we need to work on a lot, but feel so so rewarding to us when we do practice them.

1. Growth and self-discovery: always learning more about myself and the world, improving, developing into a better and more content human 2. Connection and love: directed towards myself, my friends, family, significant other and the world in general 3. Enjoyment: eating tasty food, being in beautiful places, enjoying my job 4. Purpose and achievement: to me finding a purpose, such as writing a book and working towards it is hugely important 5. Energy: feeling alive, being passionate, resonating with the energy of the place and people around me

This is amazing! Now I’ve found out my core values I understand so much more about my decisions and why I like the things I like. Have recommended to my family that they find out too, it’s soeye opening. Good luck with settling into Berlin!

Honestly, in tough times, i used to give up all the things that are important to me. At that time, I felt like i need time to restart , i didn't know what should I do next and just lie on my bed and surf my social media lol 😂. But now, i tries my best to balance and enjoy my life as much as possible ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰
