This is one advantage of exams here in the U.K. We tend to have very little multiple choice questions, but each question is worth a certain number of marks (e.g. 4 mark explain question). The rule that the exam boards and teachers follow on how much time to give you is 1 mark = 1 minute, so if your paper was worth 30 marks, then you’d get 30 minutes.
@potato_games12 жыл бұрын
Mate but theres like no multiple choice unless ur doing foundation stuff ig
@tronus85862 жыл бұрын
@Dr.MemeDaddy it means before the exam even starts you already know how much time to spend on each question. For example, for The GCSE Edexcel B Geography course, there are three papers. For papers 1 and 2, there are 90 marks and 90 minutes, but that doesn’t necessarily mean 1 mark per minute because some questions take a few seconds to answer (short answer). That means, as long as you know your exam techniques well and how to answer the questions, you can do those short answer questions very quickly. This you should focus on the longest question, the 3 8-markers at the back which should take around 10-12 minutes each to do.

Another tip: When exam starts, DO NOT open your paper. You should flip to the back where you can find a blank page, and just scribble down everything you can remember and then just do the questions. Reason: If you start the exam just looking at the questions and answering them, your brain will not be able to remember the answer since a lot of knowledge is flowing through your brain, and if you scribbled down everything at the back first, then your brain won’t be filled with a lot of stuff since your wrote it all down, so you won’t suddenly stop and think of the answer to a question as you can just copy it from behind. P.S. This saved my History grade. *Disclaimer* I got this tip from FayeFilms, she’s a student in University of Melbourne.

Here's some tips for y'all 1. First and foremost, Review before the exam (either one to two hours before the test or even last minute) 2. Try asking the teacher what is the pointers to review 3. On the test, answer the question you know first 4. When choosing an answer look for what is different from other or what is more familiar too you 5. Use the cancelation method (cancel the choises that is less likely to be the answer so you can narrow down the choices then use the 4th tip) 6. When reviewing, don't memorize the whole definition of a term. Memorize or made a connection to a certain keyword that is unique for that term

Also don't spend ages staring and pondering at a question. Star it, move on and come back later. You'll be surprised how much comes back to you. You'll have a clearer mind and also be less stressed because you've pretty much finished the test and have plenty of time to spare filling in blank answers and correcting mistakes. Bonus Tip: at the start of any test, flip to the back and write down anything you on your short-term memory that you need to remember but could forget during the test. For example, in my maths test I flipped to the back and jotted down the CAST diagram, sinx + cosx = 1, sin2x/cos2x = tan2x and finally the formula for the volume of a cylinder. This made taking the test sooooooo much easier because I wasn't trying to remember those formulas throughout the whole test ad when I came to questions where I needed those formulas I spent no time pondering or trying to remember, I just quickly copied down the formula I needed and got to work, finishing those questions in seconds opposed to 5 minutes.

i usually just go from last to first, that is, i go from hard to easy since that way i wouldn't have to worry thinking about what i'm gonna do for the hard questions coz i'm already facing it y'know. and honestly, it works out pretty well. but do keep in mind that it is necessary for you to kind of make a quick time allotment or you'll end up wasting much of your time on just one question. that happened to me quite recently actually. i was writing my english exam and i was following my usual technique (last to first) but i spent too much time on just one question (it's not bcoz i didn't know the answer or sumthin, it's bcoz i had lots of points to write that i just ended up taking too much time on that) which messed it up for all the other questions. i was able to complete all the hard questions but it was the one mark questions where i lagged. eventually, i had to leave a whole lot of one mark questions since time was running out. oh and also, *read* your paper first. and if you can, just try to note down the answers in your mind.

@@hermione9030 I guess it really depends on the subject/test. Multiple choice tests, even if they are stimulus based are usually where you know the answer immediately or you don't and hard questions are usually far between and it won't be a huge deal if you get a few wrong. I just do them in this order: 1. Questions that I imidiatelly know the answer to 2. Questions that I know how to solve but look like they are gonna take some time (like I know the method but they involve some more complex calculations than one simple equation) 3. Questions that I kinda have idea where to start but I'm not that confident about them 4. Questions I have no idea how to tackle (hoping that something will come to my head while I work on the previous ones or I can just think about them for the remaining time and leave them unsolved in the worst case) Like some other peope here said. Micromanaging your time to the point where you try to calculate how much time you should leave for each question will just make you more lose time and cause a lot of unecessary stress. I never really tried to come up with any "test taking method" but what I described above is how I usually went about those and I know there are people who struggle with time management on tests so holefully it will help someone. I think the pro of this method is that it's pretty easy and fast to put the question in one of these 4 categories just by reading it

I have few tips if for doing test. If your test consist of essays and multiple choices, ALWAYS WORKS ON THE ESSAYS FIRST. Especially if the Essay is 2/3 of yer entire score. After that, work on the easiest ones to the hardest of the test. If your test is only an essay, read the questions first, and answer the ones that are familiar first before moving to the hardest one. This helps stimulate your brain to remember the subject you are studying. Also, usually the answer to the hard question connects to the answer for the short question. If it's only a multiple choice, go from easiest to hardest. Do not micromanage how long you are going to work on a question. It would put a pressure on you and makes working on it longer. Try to scale it down again which one is simpler to work amongst the harder questions. If there's an analysis multiple choice, then work on those first because they usually took longer than normal multiple choices. That's all I guess? (EDIT : spelling mistakes)

If you see any questions you don’t understand, put a star next to the question and skip it. 3. Go back to the questions you starred and see if you can figure out how to solve them. If you can’t figure them out after a couple minutes of thinking, just move on. 5. Check your work, starting with the hardest questions first and going to the easiest. 6. If you still have any starred questions left, try to answer them. 7. Keep repeating steps 5 and 6 until you only have 5 minutes left. If you have any starred questions, just put in a random answer or some BS work and hope your teacher will give you partial credit (unless they don’t give partial credit). If not, just keep checking

On the questions after, put the opposite (if the first question was true, then the second one is more likely to be false. And vice versa) 3. For any remainders, put true (true/false questions are more likely to be true than false). 1. If multiple choice, put the answers you know. 2. If the multiple choice answers are in a list (like A ) or are grouped together (A, B, C) then B go for the ones on the edges, as the C examiners are more likely to put them on the edges than the middle. A technique I learned in GCSE English: If you’re not sure on written questions, just write as much as possible relating to the topic. Just absolutely bullshit as much as possible and you might strike a couple nuggets of gold that the examiners will accept. Let me know if these work! ^^

Fortunately, exams are mostly equally time consuming in most tests I do so I just manage the time for each equally

Another trick: DO NOT write any random answers just because you want your teacher to think that you are really fast and productive they will be really happy in the beginning but after checking your answers they will be not happy at all. So take ur time wisely and pass.

If you are doing chemistry tests in the UK, the multiple choice questions, which are worth 1 or 2 marks, take more than 3 minutes. This is more time consuming so doing the 5 mark questions at the start is better

for maths, i start with the highest scoring ones first and then move to the lower easy ones for english, i start with literature first, then grammar and last for the reading section if the subject is a mix of theory and numericals, i finish the theory part first and then the numericals

I usually answer all of the very easy questions first, so I have more time to answer the difficult ones.

Our teachers always told us to just solve what we know then spend the rest of the exam thinking about the hard questions

I'll also suggest writing down things you may forget such as formulas, word definitions, certain facts and the like.

A) make darn sure if you skip a question, you skip it on the scantron/ answer page. If you are 1 off on all the answers, you failed. I have seen it happen. B) if you are struggling on the answer, reread the question slowly. You may have skipped the word not, except, or some clue to help you. C) If you have a test that only counts The ones you try, then skip the ones you don't know. Just realize, it may change the weight of the answers points. 100 questions, 1 point right or wrong. 25 questions answered are 4 points each. 10 questions are 10 points each. By the way, tests only show you where you are weakest so you know where you need to focus. If you are multiplying and you miss all the 7 times tables, focus on reviewing the 7 times tables. You are not stupid, you just don't get the concept. If you are lazy, that is your choice to be uneducated, but to have to pay for education later is way more expensive.

Just do the easier one first no need to waste time calculating the time it would took you for x or y question. Every single second is precious

This is especially useful if you didn't study; answer what you do know first, then spend the rest of the time trying to reason out hard questions and going for half-points if possible.

Tip: start by writing some informations about the exams, example : If its math, write the formulas on the back. And skip the questions or use 1 min on it, if still dont know, Skip..

Here we have sections for questions and we have freedom to start with any. We can opt to do the sections in any order but need to do the questions in the section orderly. It's a nice system.

A little tip for the people who got cumulative tests: try an educated guess, move on to the next question, and so on so forth until u reach the end. Then go back and answer those questions again. This isn’t a guarantee but it is helpful.
@nehazite2602 жыл бұрын
I tend to solve those questions which have heavy weightage and then solve questions with low weightage. This way I don't goof up in bigger and important answers and make silly mistakes due to lack of time and anxiety about the remaining time and one mark questions are much more easy to remember and write so anxiety doesn't affect on them.

In our school, they let us review our question paper for 15 minutes before we are handed our answer sheets so we can start writing. So during these 15 minutes, you are to think about how and which questions you'll solve, which ones you'll skip, or to recall things because sometimes we think we know the answer but forget it as soon as we write the first word (does this happens to anyone else too). Helps us save alot of time and we are able to finish them on time, except me that is. Because I study so much that I know too much and then I write too much and the next thing you know time's up.

That's what I do. Do the easiest ones first. Even if you run out of time for the test, at least you answered something.

I did a scholarship exam for my school many weeks ago and they gave us 75 questions in 45minutes, for context, I’m considered smart and I had asked people that have or have not gotten the scholarship before and all they said was, make sure you finish all the questions, I thought it was weird but I did, best decision ever made. (And yes I got the scholarship)
