Hello. While I prefer to use braided line on my reels, fluorocarbon or mono line is fine to use as well. I use a 3000 series reel for most of my coho fishing and I spool the reel with about 30 to 35 pound test braid. I then run a leader of 20 to 25 pound test mono. Works well for me. If you run fluoro or mono line, you can get away with 15 to 20 pound test line for most coho fishing situations. Good luck!

I like to see the bobber sink before setting the hook. However, sometimes they won't pull the bobber all the way down (it will pause, or show some sign that a fish has taken the offering). Either way, if you're confident a fish has the hook in it's mouth, set the hook. Good luck!

Fishing for coho in Campbell Creek is typically good from the end of July through August. Runs vary year to year. If you're planning to go, the best time for brighter fish is around July 27 through the second week of August. However, some years you can find brighter fish through August. This same method of fishing is effective at Ship Creek as well. Good luck.

I find that a 10 foot float rod works best for me. I've also used 9 and 9 1/2 foot rods. Good luck!

Hi, Robert. There are sections of Campbell Creek that are open to fishing for coho beginning July 14. I prefer to start targeting them in late July or early August. By mid to late August you can still find fresher fish. I normally go out looking for fresh coho after a rain storm when the water level of the creek has risen a bit. If visibility is off, that's good. Find the deeper pools and you should find coho. When the water level goes down and the water clears up, stick to the creek and look under cut-banks and in log jams; coho like to tuck themselves into structure. @@Twinkyboy There are several access points on Campbell Creek. This particular video was shot at a location accessible from the parking area near Taku Lake.

Great video and very informative. I am heading up to Anchorage this week all the way from Miami, Florida. I’d love to catch and release one of those beautiful colored cohos. Are they in Campbell creek now? Where exactly is my best chance of catching one? Thanks!

@@dennistriana7359 Thanks for watching the video. Fishing for coho salmon on Campbell Creek is open in specific sections from July 14 - September 30. I'm typing this reply on September 30. If you will be here next week, fishing for coho on Campbell Creek will be closed. By the end of September, most of the run has made its way out of the fishery onto the spawning grounds. However, some coho can still be found in various sections of the creek which can be accessed at various points in Anchorage.
