ExtremeTerrain.com Thank you so much for this video. Definetly gave me a better idea on what tires to get. planning on buying my first car ever and its gonna be a Wrangler sport soon! I really dont plan on offroading it. maybe handful times a year so its gonna be a daily on road and highway. 35s seem good to me with a 1in lift. What kind of wheel size do you reccomend so its not strenuous for the heavy tires to move?

Almost got those same wheels, but figured everybody and their mama got those. Thanks for sharing this information Ryan! I was confident to install 35" tires with 20" wheels with no issues with wheel well clearance. The guys at the tire store did not believe it would fit and advised not to buy. They are now educated with new data on JL Sahara and Rubicon fitment.

Informative, and I really appreciate the fact that it shows clearance using Sport/Sahara fenders and such, but to many Jeep Wrangler videos involve installing lifts and much larger wheels/tires only to be followed up by a cruise down just a dirt road with a few humps. "Were not going to take it down any serious trails, we are just going to see how it handles a little off-road." It's not going to "handle" that terrain any different than it would have with a stock suspension and the 32" highway tires that came on it from the factory.

One thing that is never mentioned in these videos is the spare tire. I put 33s on my JL and have issues with my backup sensors catching the tire and my back up camera cover won't fit anymore. The tpms on the driver side rear won't read. It did for the first couple of miles then just turned red and never came back. Rotated tires and the one that worked no longer works in that location. Looks good though. :)

Hello, great video! Thinking of the Mopar lift kit and 35” tires. Not too sure about bigger tires because of axle ratio and changes to differential on a Sport Model. Do you think I would need to regear up to a 4.10?
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 4 жыл бұрын
It honestly kinda depends! The new 8-speed automatic transmission in the JLs can handle larger tires pretty easily without too much grief, especially if you have the 2.0L turbo engine. If you have a manual transmission though, you will most likely need to re-gear to get you low-end torque and highway driving back. If you're going to re-gear for 35s, I'd recommend looking into either 4.56s or 4.88s. Paying for all of the labor involved for re-gearing just to go with a set of 4.10s may leave you a little disappointed. They won't be aggressive enough to spin those 35s. Hope this all helps! -Zach

My experience with this size of wheel base requires 6" liftand 37s. That is when I was most happy. Except for the availability of 37" inch tires of my choice. My 2 cents for actual offroad use and you don't want to be turtling on your skid plate. And get a metal center skid plate not aluminum. You will slide over obstacles easy. Rocks tend to scrape and dig deep into the skid. My experience with one brand of skid plate.

Hey, Jorge! I personally would recommend *at least* adding a small lift kit. @extremeterrain i want 35" tires on my 4dr JL. Is the skyjacker 2.5" lift enough to clear and not rub? i think eventually i'll be adding front and rear steel bumpers, winch, rock sliders, skid plates, tire carrier, and maybe a rooftop tent. I know it'll weigh down a bit, but i guess i could always upgrade it later..what do you think?
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 4 жыл бұрын
2.5" of lift will be perfect for a set of 35s on your JL! Depending on how wide the new tires are you may need to invest in a set of wheel spacers if you are keeping your factory wheels, or a set of aftermarket wheels with a little more offset. That way you won't need to worry about rubbing on when turning. If you plan on *reallyyy* weighing it down and driving around like that often, it may be better to look into a 3" or 3.5" kit though. Especially if you're looking at large full-width front bumpers, full width heavy-duty rear bumpers, full skids underneath the Jeep, etc. Hope this helps! -Zach

After looking at both the Rubicon and Sahara, the fenders look like they are mounted the exact same place, the Rubicon fenders are just designed to go about 2 inches higher from the same mounting points. My question is why not just put the Rubicon fenders on and run the 35s? I've been trying to decide if I should get a CHEAP Sport, put Rubicon flares on it, a couple BUILT air locker rear ends with 4.56 or 5.13 gears in it and custom front and rear bumpers. I would end up with a better Jeep for less money that I could actually engage the lockers in high range when I need it instead of having to go to low. Thoughts?
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 5 жыл бұрын
It all comes down to what you wanna do! Mopar will sell the Rubicon fender flare aftermarket so you can always get a Sport and add those or other high-clearance flares to make room for 35s. And you can always add lockers and gears no problem... or you can just get a Rubicon, add 35s, and not have to worry too much about gearing or lockers since they already come with them and 4.10s. Simply put, a lot of people love the Rubicon because its already good to go. You don't need to add much of anything to go wheeling on bigger tires. But if YOU want to build your Jeep 100% to your own specifications, get a Sport! Hope this helps! -Zach

You can definitely fit 35s on a stock Rubicon! Those higher fender flares and higher ride height compared to Sport and Sahara models makes mounting 35s no problem. You'll just see less clearance to flex things out when time comes to go off-road. -Zach

@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 3 жыл бұрын
What engine is your JL equipped with? If you have a 3.6L V6, you'll likely want to look into regearing down the line. Especially if you have a manual transmission, the added weight of those 35s will become apparent pretty quick with that compared to the 8-speed automatic. If your Jeep has the 2.0L turbo, you may honestly be fine without touching your gears! The turbo and 8-speed automatic do a great job of compensating for the added weight of those tires and I've seen numerous reports of owners not needing to regear unless you plan on doing heavy off-roading. Lift kits, shocks, and steering dampers by themselves will not cause regearing to be needed, only larger tires. Hope this helps! -Zach

@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 4 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the Jeep crowd! The nice thing with the JL platform is that you *really* don't need a bunch of lift to fit bigger tires. On the Sport models, I'd recommend at least 2 or 2.5 inches of lift to get some 35s under there without any rubbing. You may need some wheel spacers if you plan on keeping factory wheels to keep away rubbing. If you go with aftermarket wheels you should be fine, since the majority of them give you some more backspacing compared to factory. When looking at lift kits I highly recommend finding one with new springs, shocks and swaybar links if you have the budget. Hope this helps! -Zach

Most 35 inch tires will be too wide to mount on the stock wheel and will require less back spacing to avoid rubbing. You can run 35's without a lift on a Gladiator but a leveling kit is recommended for some more room in the front wheel well.

@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 2 жыл бұрын
You may not, honestly! I've seen many 2.0L owners note how after installing 35s and 37s, their Wranglers hold up just fine! Your Jeep will definitely feel a little more sluggish with the added weight of the tires but the turbo *really* helps combat it. If you have room in your budget down the line it will definitely help, but I wouldn't say its needed right away! -Zach

But I have not yet seen the review, how does the behavior of the car change on a normal road? How has car driving changed? How much does the braking distance and fuel consumption increase? We may do a video like this in the future! In general, adding 35" tires will change a good bit of your on-road driving characteristics because of the dramatic change in weight compared to factory 32" tires. Without regearing after install your Wrangler will feel more sluggish, you'll require more time for braking, fuel consumption will go up because your engine is working harder to get those heavy tires moving, and the center of gravity on your Jeep will be higher from the larger tires. Hope this helps! -Zach

Hi, I have a 2018 Rubicon JL with stock 33"s....can I fit 35" on the same rim/wheel?
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Your Rubicon wheels will be able to fit 35x12.5R17 tires no problem, and your high clearance fender flares from the factory will give them plenty of room! -Zach

I have jl sahara with 2" lift 3.6l My question are axle strong enough for 35inch For daily off-road use
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 2 жыл бұрын
Really depends on what your definitely of daily off-road use is! Dirt roads and trails? Sandy paths? Gravel? You won't need to worry about it with those. Moderate to difficult trails with deep ditches or crawling over boulders every single day?? Then you may want to look into gusseting your axles to make sure they hold up to the abuse long-term. -Zach

Is required to do a calibration in the speedometer when you lift your JL with 35”tires ?
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 4 жыл бұрын
It is not required, many people run 35s on their Jeep temporarily without correcting their speedometer. I highly recommend you do though, especially if you have an automatic transmission. That way your Jeep shift properly and drive a bit smoother with them. -Zach

This question is a bit late, but noticed that you didn't say anything about the axle ratio. I has a 2023 Willys JLU with the 3.6 engine and 3.45 axle ratios. I have changed the wheels and tires from the stock 255's to 285-70's but I prefer the look of the 35's. With a 2 - 2 1/2 lift. The stock axle is ok with the 285's but think it will stuggle with 35's. So, can you recommend an appropriate axle ratio for road use. Maybe the 4.01:1? Not sure if the 3.73 will be enough.
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 10 ай бұрын
With the 3.73's you will loose a little drivability in normal conditions with 35's and an auto transmission. To stay in the right RPM range in the highest gear with an auto transmission at 70 mph, a 4.88 gear ratio is the most common recommended size. It will depend on preference so we recommend checking out gear ratio charts for your specific set up!

@brnt.9319
@brnt.9319 4 жыл бұрын
You can fit 33s without a lift, though a 2-2.5 inch lift will give you more tire to fender clearance. Only downside to running a smaller tire with a lift is that it might look disproportionate.

@extremeterrain 4 жыл бұрын
It varies from shop to shop - but technically you *can* fit 35x12.5R17 tires onto stock 17" wheels, but its a pretty tight fit. The vast majority of shops will want to see a 17x8.5" or 17x9" wheel in order to more safely mount a larger tire like that. Aftermarket wheels like that 17x9" will also give you a more aggressive backspacing than stock which will allow more clearance for wider tires as well. The only way you could achieve this on factory wheels is through the use of wheel spacers. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your Jeep! -Zach

I've got a rubi 2 door and I want just an 1" 1/2" to 2 " lift of some sort. 35" and no more. Get a bit more ground clearance with keeping the center of gravity as low as possible. I think that combination will be a very good one for an all around jeep. Street and trail. It just bugs me to pay around $2000 to $2900 for wheels and tires. Might be I'll just leave it alone.
@extremeterrain

We agree that that would be a great combo! Unfortunately, you're right. Set ups like that don't come cheap. On the bright side though you do have the one up with the Rubicon wheel and tire combo in the meantime!! Thanks for watching!

@extremeterrain

Height-wise it will fit no problem! But since those are some wide tires on stock wheels, and there may be rubbing on the lower control arms at full-lock from it. Spacers will definitely help give you some extra wiggle room! -Zach

I have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL Sahara. It has the stock 18x7.5inch rims. I like these rims, but I would like to install the 2" Mopar Performance Lift and size up to 35" tires. Is there a tire size for that would work? I don't care for the look where the tires are 'sticking out' from the side of the jeep, I like them 'tucked under' my jeep they way the factory tires are. Thanks!
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 5 жыл бұрын
Since these wheels come with a -12mm offset, regardless of the tire size that you get they will always poke out ever so slightly. That being said, the amount of poke can be control partly by how wide of a tire you want to go with. If you aren't looking for too wide of a tire but still want the height of a traditional 35" tire, I recommend looking into a 285/75R17. Mounted and balanced, that size is almost identical to the height of a traditional 35x12.5R17 but a little more narrow. Best of luck! -Zach

ExtremeTerrain.com That sounds like what I’m looking for. I like the stock Rims as the they look good (aluminum with grey painted spokes) and they have the “Jeep silhouette Easter egg” painted on them. I think that’s what I’m going to go with. Thanks Zach!

Mine would be 285/75/R18 though?
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Blake! Good catch! Yes, so you would be looking at a 285/75R18. That would be giving you a height of 34" tall and just over 11" wide. Mounted up they will look the same as a traditional 35 height wise, just a little bit skinnier. If you wanted something a little bit shorter you can always go with a 285/70R18, that will give you the same beefy tire look but be a little bit better on gas. Best of luck!! -Zach

ExtremeTerrain.com I’m facing the same dilemma. Just picked up a 2019 Sport Altitude, I love the wheels but want larger tires, sounds like going with the 285/75R18 or 285/70R18 would work perfectly, but would the bumper splash guard need removed? What about gearing, would that need changed? Lastly, would it be better to do a small lift?

Is there any regearing needed when installing the lift and 35's on the JL Sport?
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 4 жыл бұрын
That kinda depends, honestly! If you have the new eight-speed transmission, you'll be able to handle 35's pretty well. You will notice some power lost but it won't be terrible. If you have the six-speed manual transmission though, you will definitely notice a loss in power and your 6th gear won't be too useful anymore. Hope this helps! -Zach
