Everyday someone asks "Can I fit 35"s to a KDSS equipped Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series". In this episode I show you step by step what I've done to fit these aggressive Kenda Klever MT2 35 x 12.5 18 tyres to my 2014 Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series.

After recent testing with this setup I can genuinely say I am thrilled with the performance, both with the addition vehicle clearance and the performance of these tyres off-road. There is little to no rubbing on the guards and it rides perfectly, no issues with suspension flex or gearing (of course there is a difference, but nothing substantial).
If you are someone who likes to take your Landcruiser to the hard tracks and require peak performance and maximum ground clearance, then this is certainly a doable and good option to consider.

There are a few things I need to point out in this with the first being a big one. When it comes to tightening your stabilizer links, this NEEDS to be performed while the vehicle is on the ground in a resting state. You temporarily install the bolts with the vehicle raised, and then tighten once back on the ground. Bolt is tightened to 135Nm then the nut is tightened to 140Nm. Technically, a lift kit is not required to fit larger tyres either on an IFS. As there is only so much range of movement you can get from it, a 'lift' only raises the vehicle within that set limit. With it raised, you'll have less droop, but more upwards travel over stock *Unless extended shocks installed. With the limit being the LCA bump stops. Also, want to point out, increasing wheel offset (from +60 stock to +25) will actually INCREASE the likelihood of scrubbing as people seem to think the steering pivots from the centre of the tyre, when is actually pivots on the 'steering axis' which is defined by the upper and lower ball joints. So, moving the tyre further from that set axis increases the 'arc'. For a full video explaining that, and about UCA's, diff drops, and other really good information on the Toyota IFS's, check out a channel called Tinkerer's Adventure.

Nice vid mate, I have been running 35’s on my 200 VX for 4 years. I used the Blackhawk relocation kit, done a lot of work off-road and no dramas with the linkages, probably 80,000km in total. I do like those plates though, very good idea! I did tuck the chassis mount back to free it all up etc one thing to check is your upper control arms, I had the exact same and they are subject to a recall depending on how old they are. Other than that, great move, you will never go back and welcome to the 35 club!!

Great information on fitting 35s i seen a video on Facebook from Street Quick Performance about changing the diff centres ratio when running 35s also someone said they got a yellow sticker for removing the factory mud guards on their 200 series
@XploringOz
@XploringOz 2 ай бұрын
Changing the diff centres would assist in bringing back factory ratios, however I haven't found that I've needed it in my setup to date. I will say that 6th gear isn't used very much anymore, but 5th still retains a low RPM.

The more negative wheel offset you have the more the wheels are pushed out giving a wider track and make sure you get it engineered.
@XploringOz
@XploringOz 2 ай бұрын
That's correct. But when the Landcruiser's start with a +65 a +25 is a (more) negative offset, therefore it is pushing it out towards the guards. Anything in the negative territory will push the tyres well outside the guards for this setup.
@wheeman999
@wheeman999 2 ай бұрын
@@XploringOz Meaning you have a wider track. At least for QLD, you're only legally allowed to increase track width (Negative offset) by 50mm total. Meaning 25mm either side. Stock for a 200 series is +60, not a +65. Meaning the maximum offset you can change to is +35. (25mm per side) With your setup at +25, you've increase the offset by 35mm per side or 70mm total track increase. Track is measured from the tyre centre line, so change in tyre width does not change your measured track.

Nathan, thought you'd gone back to work, how on earth did you get time off for a high country trip?, like its not just down the road from home, ha!!! More to the topic at hand, road noise, you obviously gave them a huge run on the black top, how were they? I've always run BFGs MTs, initially KM2 then KM3. They begin quiet, but get noiser with wear. I get rid of them prior to becoming darn outright annoyingly loud and to have tread depth. I keep using them as I've never encountered a single puncture on either series, KM2 or KM3. You are a persuasive chap, curious how they go, you may sway me away from BFG. Need to be a bloody good reason though, Wealie.

Be careful not to snap the cv axles. Especially when you use crawl system. If you snap the axle the vehicle will be RWD when you lock the center diff lock. Been there.
@XploringOz
@XploringOz 2 ай бұрын
For sure, but realistically, theres not much difference from what I was previously running and these 35"s. I've been through 3 CV's in the last couple of years on smaller tyres, so I don't think there will be a huge difference just because of a couple of inches.... here's hoping anyway 🤞

Why dont you/didnt you just have the coil seat adjusted for a bit more lift? This would have assisted in the scrubbing issues. Assuming you didnt go any higher with the new lift kit ???
@XploringOz

Due to the sag and wear in the ARB kit, we gained 30mm extra height in the in front with the new kit. This begin said, I don't think anymore eight will help. It's not touching the tops of the guards, but regardless it's operating just fine in its current condition 👍

@SteveBurns80
@SteveBurns80 2 ай бұрын
Yeah nah, 35s are too big on any ifs landcruiser. Better stock up on cv's if you do plan on doing the tougher tracks. Better still, just buy a something with solid axels for the tougher tracks, and keep the 200 on 33s for the touring trips. It's a no brainer.
@ianweal3081
@ianweal3081 2 ай бұрын
Haha, he went to the Dark Side previously, hoped outa Patrol into 200, bet he's not venturing back to solid axles anytime soon. Have to be hoping into an Ineous Grenadeir to go solids now, couldn't possibly go 70 series once you've owned a 200 or Patrol. Mind you, there's a chap from Vic whom transits from Vic to NSW inland weekly whom brought a Grenadeir, he takes that weekly long distance run in the Grenadeir over his 200. When I asked why, he just simply said he prefers it over the 200, what's not to like. If he prefers it on road, guessing he's impressed by its off road ability also. No one ever praised a 70 series on road manners, never!!
@XploringOz

I don't think so, the 35" really aren't that big and careful driving will assist with prolonging parts. CV's are always a weak component and I've already broken 3 CV's in the last 18 months on small tyres, so I don't think the 35" are going to be the sole reason for breakages. If I had the money, then maybe a 2nd 4WD would be the way to go, but the 200 is seriously capable and comfortable and WA doesn't have an abundance of hard tracks anyway.

Tyre sizes makes no difference to CV angles, thus will not change the likelihood of a CV failure.
@and7976

@@wheeman999 It will put more load on the cv, larger wheels have more traction and put leverage on the cv.
@wheeman999
@wheeman999 2 ай бұрын
@@and7976 No different to adding weight to your vehicle, really. Shock load will be increased when the wheel comes down spinning when lifted due to inertia, but, CV angles through wombat holes should actually be better as there needs to be less flex to reach the bottom of the offset holes. Don't simply mash the throttle flat to the floor with larger tyres, and you'll have the same load as stock. It's no different to adding weight to the vehicle.
