Golden rule... Take your glass out of the packaging and inspect it *before* you cut the hole in the van. 😀👍🏻

When the window is in place, attach the suction handles to the inside of the window. Attach bungee cords to the suction handles and fix the other end of the bungee cord to the opposite wall. This will keep tension on the window as the adhesive goes off.

I could here the panic in your voice when racing against the weather,still much easier than the old way of fitting the rubber around the hole,getting the glass into the rubber,and then sliding the lock-in rubber into the lock groove using a piece of string, I did 4 of them on a camper back in 1971, it was a nightmare.I think you were brave to film this....and no swearing🤔 Looking good Mel, I watch all your videos,I would love the freedom of a camper, just me, the wife and the dog,into the sunset,I can dream.

@Keith Barrat I think your slightly confused. The pull cord is for factory rubber without the locking bead. A diamond shaped wire tool is used for the locking bead after a peculiar S shaped hook has levered the glass into the rubber I used to fit both types back in the early 80s. And would happily do them now. They were great for finishing inside with just carpet or vinyl. Bonded Windows have always scared the crap out of me but watching this has calmed all my worries Thanks Mel Also the tip to remove the jigsaw foot is brilliant I used to cover the cutting area with card. I want to have a go at bonded Windows now. Anybody got a van I can practice on??

Big tip to all potential window fitters .apply your rubber around window first inside van . I done my own windows the the sealant squeezed into van & hardened . Big problem now the rubber U TRIM WILL NOT PUSH INTO PLACE . Had loads of folk say trim it . But this is an impossible job if you ask me the stuff hardens like concrete & also you could easily damage glass with blade or similar tool .

I did my first window last week, got two more plus a blank window to do possibly this weekend. Good fun 😳.. If anyone is doing this job I have a tip. Before placing the window on the van I opened both front door windows first. Then once the new window is in place I can open either of the two front windows and close them without the air pressure blowing the new window out. Then on my van a continuous press of the remote lock button will wind the windows up.

Hi, Mel, this might help on taking your next windows out of the box, instead of lifting them out upwards and struggling just cut down the sides on the front and fold the cardboard down like a flap and then just pull them out from the front... Enjoying the build, nice one...

Mel, the van is looking Great! The window makes a huge improvement, letting in light and air. I have solid windows in my sliders, I wonder how costly it is to have glass cut to put in a small openable? Stay Healthy!

Hi Mel I would always put the u seal on before fitting the window if the sealers to thin or press the window to hard you can struggle to fit after the windows in

Bond onto the aperture then glass onto the bond Mel, then plenty of tape to stop it sliding down.

your better cutting the end of the sealant to a v shape, you put the point on the glass and it comes out the 2 sides spread the sealant out

I think the mysterious black line is primer that you have added to the van cut out. I have just fitted 2 windows (first time) to my sprinter in 4 1/2 hours - most satisfying - I hope they're still on in the morning 🙂 (if not it's all your fault). Jigsaw footplate tip works great - mine has 4 settings for amount of reciprication - set to zero (but make sure you have plenty of spare blades). Any tips for of the week?

Morning Mel, great vid as always. Where did you get the windows from? I ask as I’ve recently acquired an 03 Sprinter. Looking to do work, but top of the agenda is another set of seats, windows and sun windows for the roof.

Mel, love what your doing with the van, haven’t missed a video 😎Hopefully starting my build around sept/oct ready for next summer.....fingers crossed. I still haven’t nailed down which van ? I have it narrowed down to VW Crafter or a MB sprinter. Any reasons you went for the Sprinter ? I defo want a fixed bed and a toilet/shower combi, possibly a pull out double at the front for two teens......

Hi thank you for your support and encouragement really appreciated I brought this van purely because it had AC and it’s Auto I really wanted a LWB but boy I’m I glad I got a MWB just so easy to park and I don’t really need that size van so I’m really really happy with it good luck with your build 🤓👍

Yeah, I would love an auto also. I live in North of Ireland and I have tried everywhere for both the sprinter and VW auto within my budget and low miles on the clock....no joy. May have to go over to England to purchase.....bloody expensive no matter what $$$$ 😲.....keep up the great videos, learning loads from them 👌

Removing the footplate from the jigsaw and use instead the little wheel for a basis is ingenious, and pioneering, as no one else, including me, had thought of doing this, and as you say it greatly enbles a better job. Well done again Mel, best wishes from Alan, in Norfolk.
