How to fix a electric chefman kettle. My electric kettle randomly stopped working and these are the step by step directions to disassemble, repair and assemble the electric tea kettle. Most of the time the contact just needs to be cleaned. Easy step by step repair instructions.

@@loveyourmindalittle Not my video but I'll share my thoughts. I always encourage folks to try a fix, but if you're not comfortable with this repair - and given it was purchased at Costco - return / exchange may be best. (If you do give the fix a go, I recommend taking mobile phone pictures while de-assembling in case you get lost while reassembling)

This worked. Thanks! I never would have known what to do on my own. The clear plastic ring on the bottom cracked and I had to glue it. It was tough getting the bottom cover back on but I used a screwdriver to push the wires aside.

Worked for me! I only cleaned the contacts with isopropyl alcohol. Maybe, screwed it together slightly looser. The point is: those are the right contacts, found them thanks to this video. Thank you!

I only had very fine sandpaper so Instead of sandpaper I used contact cleaner (specifically CRC brand QDElectronic Cleaner). It worked. Thanks for this helpful video.

After sanding the contacts it is good practice to draw a piece of paper between the contacts to remove any sandpaper grit (possibly a non-conductor) which might prevent proper "contact".

You can use an ice cube tray to keep the different nuts and screws together.

I use a sheet of paper or a paper towel on the bench. Didn't need it for this but for larger jobs I can write down what goes where, circle all the parts from a certain reassembly step, etc. if needed. I like your old ice cube tray trick too. Might just leave one on the bench for next time. Thanks for the tip, Mavro.

@@littlebitofeverything607 stopped working again after 2 weeks so I decided to check inside the base that has power cord coming out of to see if there's anything going on and I saw that 2 conductors were all black on the surface (I'm assuming this is the residue being pointed out in the video) so I sanded it and it started working again! I think I may have sanded a bit too hard trying to get rid of the black residue as I see scratch marks and the golden surface faded away a bit showing the silver linings. Will this be alright?

Thanks for the video, I tried to follow the guide to fix mine. As some one in the comments pointed out there is a small spring inside the small box. It fell out and I don't know where should I put it back. Does anyone know where exactly the small spring should be?

What's the reasoning behind the fault? Is it from water seeping in causing the corrosion to the contacts? Would additional sealing help in preventing this problem from happening again in the future? Thanks for the detailed breakdown video!

To clean off the connection. It builds up residue over time and doesn't conduct.

Thanks for the video. I could make the kettle boil following the instruction, but after one boil it stops boiling again? Is it because I haven't sanded the contacts enough?

Sounds like potentially a connection isn't being connected. Try to lift the connection on the base that it sits on.

@@littlebitofeverything607 I noticed the connector that you sanded, for mine the bottom connector strip isn't springing back up as much on one side as the other. I tried to lift the metal tab to make it spring back up. I've made a few boil and it seems to be ok so far. I'm also manually turning off the boil when it gets to 100 for now in case the thermal sensor isn't quite right.

So, I'm having a wonky issue with mine. It works, however, it doesn't turn off. So, I noticed this today when I was boiling water. It starts to boil then the sensor shuts it off (logical because it's completely hot at this point), but then turns back on and starts the boil up again. It repeats this step a few times before I manually turn it off. Help!

You might also want to check the base. if its not pushing the pin on the kettle up, it wont activate the heating coil/ turn the light on.

@@littlebitofeverything607 yup i just bought a thermometer partly to find out and other uses. It stops at 212.9 usually but sometimes 212.7 in my test . Thank you!
