My cordless Dyson v6 vacuum started pulsing and lost suction when I was pulling the trigger and I couldn't figure out why. It wasn't until I decided to start taking it apart and cleaning the vacuum and the filter that I fixed the issue of it pulsing on and off. This was a pretty easy and quick fix of the Dyson v6 vacuum pulsing on and off. You should always keep your vacuum clean.

I learned a lot from this video, but discovered it is missing one important step. The long, purple air filter that is removed from the top must be disassembled to be cleaned thoroughly. To disassemble, depress the three tabs which will allow you to slide the cloth filter off the plastic housing. The dirt is INSIDE the cloth filter. Turn upside down, tap, and shake out all you can before washing - inside and out - under a faucet. Let dry completely. If you don’t disassemble, you’ll leave a solid wad of dirt inside the filter. This dirt, btw, was the dirt that was causing my dyson to pulse. Hope this helps someone!

One way to test whether it's the filter causing the problem is just to remove the filter - I found that I had the pulsing problem with the filter inserted, but the motor ran OK if I removed it. It's drying after washing as I write, so let's hope that will fix it!

This is strange because if I pull the filter on the back off it stops pulsing so that makes me think it's something to do with that

We've had a number of Dysons and are big fans, until the pulsing hits. Your video is very helpful. BUT one thing that I found that will help with the "deep cleaning" and end the pulsing, at least for awhile. Two important things to do. Take another vacuum with a hose and clean thoroughly around the motor where the screen is. Also put the hose in the hole on the bottom. But possibly the most important is to tap the bottom of the motor while the debris container is off on a workbench or table. Do this until the very fine powder stops coming out. It is impossible for the vacuum to pull air through this dust when it builds up and the vacuum shuts down to protect itself. If you don't do this final part it will either pulse or simply shut down in no time.

Hi, I would suggest one tweak to your fix. Suggest looking for blockages first. I am a noobie with Dyson vacuums. I bought a Dyson v7 Animal cordless. I have only used it 3 times. The end of the 3rd time, it pulsated 2 times and shut off. I figured it needed to be charged, so I emptied it and put it on to charge. The next time I used it, it pulsed and shut off. I found numerous recommendations, including washing the filter. I finally settled on your video. I washed it and it was clean as a whistle (now I need to wait a long time for it to thoroughly dry). Turns out my problem was clogged tube near beater bar, as well as a clogged beater bar. I have two cats, a dog, and numerous dust bunnies. It was extremely clogged ;-). Thank you for your info and video!!!

Yup. Sure enough. As soon as I detached the pipe extension, I noticed a huge clog of fabric and crud that was obstructing the vacuum. As soon as I pulled that out, it worked again. I didn't realize before that the machine has some kind of regulating sensor that will keep it from running if a clog is present. No doubt to keep the motor from overheating, etc. Great, easy fix! THANKS!

Fixed mine after watching this - thank you for posting! I was worried the battery wasn’t properly holding a charge, but this was such a simpler problem to fix. So grateful for you and other KZfaqrs helping people fix what they already own instead of always rushing to replace broken items. 👏🏼😊

You should clean inside the filter before washing. It is easy to unclip mesh fabric and you will be surprised how much dirt is inside.

Thanks - got us started in the right direction. I had already put in a new filter, which did not help. After wiping out the container/canister, I also used a letter opener and a damp paper towel to wipe inside. It was filthy and had to be wiped several times. We used paper towels and compressed air all over the pieces - it was amazing how much dust flew out of the parts. Then I went outside, put my hand over the attachment section, turned on the Dyson and more dust blew out. Amazingly dirty - hopefully they are making a better easier to clean model.
