Awesome ideas, I have a short video coming out this week that shows the disassembly of the yellow disk. They have released a replacement part to fix the issue now. It is supposed to be stronger. Why do you even need to yellow disc on top? Won’t it just break again? Is there an alternative solution for the fill hose other than hooking it to a new yellow disc?

Thank you Steve for the super thanks, it’s greatly appreciated! So first if the hose keeps popping off, I would replace it with a new hose. I’m assuming the plastic nipple is not broken off . You can get the hose at Home Depot, simply by taking the one off of the unit and matching it, but make sure that the new hose is a little bit longer so the flush arm doesn’t hit it. The new hose will be more flexible. I have even used a small steel s hook attached to the rear of the tank to hold the hose back. The noise could be coming from the hose coming loose and squealing or the part itself could be defective. I’m not sure if you fully replaced that part or you’re asking me if it needs to be replaced if it’s making a lot of noise I would probably just replace it. But before you do that remove the tank lid and flush the toilet. A lot of the time the squealing noise is coming from the fill valve, not the flush canister. If that’s the case replace the fill valve or the small gasket inside the valve. I have a video showing you how to do both on my channel. Hope this helps, let me know how it works out. Well looks like I need to make that video next. It’s not too hard to replace that part. But you will end up removing the tank as I’m sure you have figured out. Just take your time, it’s really self explanatory, just make sure you buy the complete assembly.

I just updated the description with the new part that they have just lowered the price on Amazon that will fix that and I believe you can get that part in a day. Used to you had to buy the entire canister now you can buy just that centerpiece. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

@@UltimateDiyer Thanks I just returned home from visiting two-(2) local Plumbing Supply Stores, the first was Ferguson's Plumbing - their computer showed that they had the part in inventory, but it was not on the shelf - they could order it, but it would be over a week for arrival on Thursday, April 18, 2024. The second store was WinSupply Plumbing, but they are not a supplier for Kohler Parts. Prior to running my errand I searched the orange big box store's website and you have to order the part too. To my surprise the Gorilla Glue was holding very well, the clerk at the Ferguson's dropped the canister while he was holding, so I reinstalled the flush valve back into the toilet's tank. I don't think flushing the toilet will put more pressure on the glued area than the fall it took when the sales clerk dropped the cannister from his grasp while he was handling it.

The only real adjustment that might help that is adjusting your fill valve so that the waterline comes all the way up to the top of the canister. If that doesn’t work, you may consider just replacing the canister all together and see if that solves the issue

You should be able to pull that clip loose.

There are generally just two ways that you can increase that you can adjust your flush valve itself so that the water goes all the way up just to below the canister edge so you have full volume of water and the other is make sure that your flush handle does not have any slack. Make sure that it’s tight.

That sounds like a defective fill valve. If they ran all new water lines they may have gotten trash in the line at hookup. I would just replace the valve fill valve, the part is under $20. There is also a gasket in the valve you can replace for a few bucks that might fix the problem. I have a video on it under my plumbing playlist.

It could be, if you pick up the entire unit it will include the whole assembly. I would try that, also make sure the water fill line isn’t too close to the top of the tube. I’ve seen this a few times in the past something seems to go wrong with some of the canisters and they have a sticking point. I’ve ended up replacing the canister and they tend to work pretty well after that. Sometimes adjusting the handle can help where it doesn’t go so far up, but it sounds like you’ve already done that. Possibly and possibly the handle is bent and out of alignment. Every once in a while I change the entire handle assembly if it seems to be sticking. You can slowly push the handle and see if you find the sticking spot. If that doesn’t solve the problem, then I would look closely at the seal or maybe even the entire flush assembly.

I’m not positive without seeing what it’s actually doing but what you’re describing sounds like the same problem with the Kohler yellow top sounds like when you go to flush the canister is hitting the rubber line, causing it to pop the top off. I would replace the unit and maybe see if I could find a more flexible line, Possibly a little bit longer that you can kind of pin up away from the canister valve.

Honestly I’m replacing every toilet in my home with Toto’s I think they are a better toilet, remember they have several models. I will be releasing a video in the near future installing a higher end Toto unit.

Unfortunately it will not stay in place, every time you flush the canister moves and after 10 or so flushes it pops off again. Most people try to do that and realize it’s not going to work in the long run. Great question, thanks for watching!

As cheap as the canister as I would go ahead and just replace the whole canister.

I have not tried that, but I think it would work as long as the pipe size is correct, if you follow my amazon link you can buy the entire pipe system with gaskets

It’s hard to diagnose without see it in action but if the bowl is filling it sounds like maybe the flush valve isn’t allowing enough water to enter or the fill valve is functioning correctly. Take the tank lid off and flush and see if the take is emptying completely into the bowl. You should only have a small amount of water in the bottom of the tank.

Also I know you said you have a second toilet backed up to this one, you could have a partial clog in your vent stack that is blocking air to that toilet.

Water comes out in 2 places. The hose and the bottom of the valve. The hose fills the bowl after you flush, that’s why it goes down the canister, If the tank isn’t filling up I would look close at the bottom of the valve and make sure it has water coming out of it after flushing. Sounds like there is something wrong maybe blocking the outlet in the valve assembly. I can’t see what happening but if it sounds like water is running down the drain, make sure the canister is seated properly and not allowing water to escape.

That’s a good question, you are seeing more and more canisters now and for the most part they work just fine. I think this particular model just had an issue with that hose getting hit every time the flush handle was used. I really like the Toto toilet, you can get a basic Drake Toto at a reasonable price. No< try and adjust the plastic screw that sets the water level. It sounds like it may have worked loose, and now its not filling completely, making you hold the handle to get enough water to make a flush. If that doesn't work, I would change the flush valve.

You might try replacing the rubber hose with a longer more flexible hose, one viewer suggested strapping the longer hose up to keep it away from the handle. I replace the hose each time and it seems to stop the breakage.

Harry, honestly it sounds like the fill valve needs adjustment. When you turn the adjustment screw, and then flush again is it not changing the water level at all? If it is not, you may not be working the adjustment screw properly or it’s defective. With the lid off do you see water running over the top of the canister? If not the gasket at the bottom of the canister may need replacing. It would be unusual for the fill valve or the canister gasket to be bad on a brand new toilet but not impossible.

The water is running over the top of the canister. Turning the adjustment screw either way does not change the water level.

If it is leaking into the bowl and the gasket did not fix it, it is probably going to be the fill valve itself. Make sure the water level is not set too high as well. I have another video I released a few weeks ago that covers running toilets and quick fixes.

If the hose is piping off of the new canister try replacing the hose itself, also check the handle and see if maybe it needs adjusting by changing its position with the locking nut if possible. If the toilet is running then look at the fill valve they go out a lot.

That adjustment sets the water height, it sounds like you need to replace the fill valve, it’s sticking.

Make sure the hose is connected, you might try adjusting the water to the unit. If that doesn’t fix it look at the flush/fill valve, take off the lid and flush it to see what location the noise is coming from. If it is the fill valve, replace the flush valve if it’s coming from the canister, replace the canister. Most of the time noises even vibration comes from the fill valve itself.

That depends the canister will fix that if the reason it is is ghost flushing is because it is slowly draining water due to the leaking canister seals or another possibility can be your fill valve not working correctly. But in most cases, I would start by replacing the canister. It’s quick and easy and most of the time it stops the ghost flushing.

There is also a seal at the bottom of that canister that you can try to replace that only cost a few dollars

Do you mean that you keep replacing the unit and that same part keeps breaking on the replacements or it the same part keeps breaking on the original unit?

There are a number of potential reasons for this, but most often, it’s due to a leak in your toilet. Let’s take a look at its various causes and corresponding solutions. Exterior Leak An external leak can develop in the toilet's tank, bowl, or even the pipes that link your toilet to your sewage system. All of these can result in ghost flushes, so identifying the source of the leak can help you correct it. Crack on the Bowl’s Exterior Although cracks closer to the seat are typically difficult to see, they can appear at any time. The first indication of a leaky bowl is when the toilet appears to be "sweating" and there are drops of water running down its exterior. What to do about ghost flushing if the outside of your bowl cracks? If this is the case, you're usually better off replacing the entire bowl because patching it up is a temporary fix. If you try to seal the leak, you’ll likely have to deal with the same issue again because the rest of the toilet becomes susceptible to cracking Crack on the Tank’s Exterior The outside of the toilet tank is more likely to crack than the bowl. If the tank is accidentally knocked against the wall, its exterior could crack. Sometimes, you can end up cracking the wall and the tank at the same time. If the crack on the tank is higher, you could try reducing the water level in the tank. It can be adjusted by turning the water level control knob which is normally close to the fill valve. Once you’ve repaired the crack, don't forget to change the height of the toilet water. However, if the fracture happens on the lower part of the tank, it’s best to replace the entire fixture. Loose or Improper Piping If the seals between the toilet and the sewer system deteriorate, loose plumbing can happen. The seal or the pipe must normally be replaced when this kind of leak occurs. If issues persist, you could have a problem with the toilet fitting itself or low water pressure. Internal Leak Internal leaks are frequently the main cause of ghost flushing. Numerous moving elements in toilets experience constant wear and strain. Daily use can result in one component failing which then prompts another to stop working. Eventually, the entire internal system of your toilet has to be replaced. Faulty Toilet Flapper/canister One of the most common causes of ghost flushing is a faulty toilet flapper. In your case the canister/ring system. The flapper controls the opening between the bowl and the tank. When you flush, the flapper moves away from the opening and allows water to fill the bowl. Typically, this issue can be resolved by changing the flapper or canister However, if the problem recurs, it could be that the flapper is being pulled the wrong way by the toilet handle. It's better to change the handle if this is the case. What to do about ghost flushing in this case? Take the refill tube from your overflow pipe and leave it outside to test it and see if that stops the ghost flushing. Malfunctioning Flush Valve The component that flushes the toilet into the sewage system is the flush valve. When a flush valve malfunctions, the system can flush continuously because the handle is being constantly pulled. The flush valve must be replaced in this situation.

I fixed it. It was the yellow gasket. It had a bubble on it that protruded on both sides. Very easy fix. I am a 66-year old female and always panic when it comes to "fixing" things. Thank you for your video. @@UltimateDiyer

The only way to adjust the canister is the plastic screw that adjusts the height of the water in the tank. Make sure it is set to the very top so you get the max amount of water when you flush. If you are set to the top then the flush valve may be defective, you might want to just replace it. With the top off the tank flush the toilet and make sure the flush valve itself Is sending enough water to the canister, it may be wore out.

Yes, the stem is a weak part of this type valve and that's exactly why the one in the video was replaced. The good part is its a quick part to change with no tools needed.

FYI, this toilet is probably 5 years old and has a very defined water line which it still fills up to, but now just keeps running. The old seal was in great shape but I changed it anyway. Also, if I jiggle the cylinder around a little bit I can usually get it to stop running.

It sounds like the yellow insert is flat broken that could be where the noise is coming from and it should not be popping off. If the hose itself is popping off of the yellow piece, replace the hose, it can be owed and brittle. It sounds like there isn’t enough water entering the tank or in the tank to begin with. Take the lid off and check that the tank is full of water to the top of the canister. When you do flush you should hear the water filling rapidly, if not you may have a clogged or broken fill valve. You can also have the handle connected wrong at the canister, meaning the handle could be bent or broken so it’s not pulling the canister all the way open. Hope this helps. Same problem. I have to hold the handle down for the tank to empty completely. The tank does fill to the proper level.

Usually I just replace the canister when I have a sticking one and it fixes the problem. Sometimes your water pressure can be off a little bit or you don’t have everything lined up correctly so that it works smoothly, but most likely the canister itself is defective.

Also check the handle and make sure it’s not bent, sometimes when people try hard to get it to flush, they end up bending the handle it may be bent up higher and causing it to stick open

Yes, it does just snap out. You have to go counterclockwise and push fairly firm. You’ll fill it click and then come loose. Just make sure that you have the water off and if you can either use a sponge in a bucket or a wet back to get the rest of the water out of the tank so you don’t have a lot of water on the floor And I do agree with what they say. It sounds like there’s something causing problems at the bottom of the valve. If it’s leaking, you may be able to change that gasket at the bottom or you may need to replace the entire unit if there is a crack or something wrong with it.
