With a good vacuum that has a means of controlling the suction you can pop the dust cap out and make it look nicer. Thanks for the tip saved me $50.

Great point about controlling vacuum. An old ac/DC amp with adjustment knobs I have would work great. If I don't fry the motor.. it's like the old train sets with a speed controller. Same thing but with only ac..

You guys rock!! Thank you so much for this video. I'm a mom to a kiddo who loves working with speakers. My son gets them from 2nd hand stores, freebies, etc and he modifies them but I never knew that patching was actually that easy. I now know what materials I can buy for him to have more fun with his speakers!! Thank you!!

If it's an actual nice speaker, or speaker you care about a lot, there are better adhesives out there to use than wood glue, or crazy glue also. Better patching material also. Also, certain tears, depending how they are, how big, or where on the speaker don't always require material, as it also affects the sound by adding more mass to the speaker.

I suggest you just use a very thin paper tissue, not wide, maybe just enough to cover the damage. Apply glue on the tissue, not on the speaker cone. Place a bit both sides of the damaged part and then using a light paint brush (the ones kids use) and apply light pressure to stick to the cone and no edges. Allow to dry ...too much glue will make the speaker cones harder and reduce mids.

Paper towel and Elmers Glue works fine. I repaired speakers with holes in them and they work fine. After they dry spray them with a little flat black paint in the repair area and you can hardly tell it was repaired.
@heathwatsonguitar
@heathwatsonguitar 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah good idea but the cotton in the material is really strong but supple as it is weaved in a criss cross patern like mesh. Even if kept in a damp area it wont break apart. Paper towel might not last as well or hold up to volume.

Paint pot strainer and elastomeric. I usually paint all the around the outer foam or paper, all the way up on to the screw holes and gasket because if you're playing loud (and why the fcuk wouldn't you?) it will eventually unzip all the way around. Elastomeric is the stuff we use on the roofs of motorhomes and mobile homes and stuff.

Way to much glue. Separate a two ply kitchen paper towel for patch and apply with elmers all purpose glue slightly thinned with water. Apply some glue to the speaker where the patch goes and let it soak in for a minute. Soak patch in the glue and apply it. Gently smooth it out and let it dry overnight. Mix a little acrylic paint to match and paint it up. Much better results.
