In this video I will show you how to adjust your sagging shower door by unscrewing clamp hinges. NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RIGHT SIZED PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWDRIVER/DRILL BIT. MY SCREWS ARE LARGER AND REQUIRE A #3 PHILLIPS HEAD (THEY COME IN #1,#2,#3 SIZED BITS). IF I USED ANYTHING SMALLER I WOULD RISK STRIPPING SCREWS. ONCE YOU ADJUST YOUR DOOR, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO ADJUST IT AGAIN. If your shower door is starting to lean or is sagging this is an easy fix. The screws that are loosened and tightened are adjusting the clamp force on the glass. So when you loosen screws it allows you to slide glass further into or away from clamp hinge. Definitely have something to shim the door, you don't want the glass to come in contact with tile floor, tile curbing, or hinge/tile on the wall. Cracking glass is an issue when adjusting door. Make sure you don't use too much force when rotating glass towards wall to even gaps. Please ask any questions in the comments section!

These trades are throwing out crazy numbers!! Good luck. Most of them are Phillips heads… Just make sure you have the right size that will help when you’re trying to tighten. I ended up using an impact driver on mine, which really helped. Haven’t had to adjust it in well over a year.

Thanks for the video. For anybody wondering, you don’t technically need the “shims” as long as you are comfortable holding the door while loosening it. If not, get someone’s help in holding it in the meanwhile. I did it by myself with just a screwdriver. Grabbed door handle and used foot for support.

Thank you for your clear and concise fix. I had the same hinges as your shower so it was incredibly easy to follow along. I would recommend using shims to adjust the shower door since it is very heavy and can be easily damaged if dropped onto the tile. In my case I used 2 paint stirs on the hinge side and 3 on the handle side. They helped adjust the door perfectly. The repair took less than 5 minutes.

I found i eventually needed a #3 phillips head (thicker) and my impact drill. Hand tightening works but you may need to adjust again in a few months

Thank you for the video. It was well done. I do have a tip to add I learned over 30 years ago. If the screws are very difficult to get loose I recommend purchasing a tube valve grinding compound at your local automotive store for more gripping strength, then dapping it in screw and then using a long handle 3/8 ratchet and apex tip for extra torque. Tapping on the screw for several minutes with a hammer and screwdriver or apex tip to break the seize maybe required as in my case.

I wouldn't recommend using the handle to pull up on the glass. Get a suction cup or grab the top of the glass to shift over. Someone is going to see this video video, pull up on the handle and pop their door lol. I own a glass company and I've seen it happen👌💯

You are a hero. I couldn’t figure out how to make my glass doors from banging. Your video absolutely helped me. I just put two Home Depot paint stirrers (free) on where my contact was happening after loosening the screws. Then I tightened the screws and now it’s perfectly aligned, better than when the contractors installed the frameless doors!

Hiding in plane sight--great fix! One suggestion: let the bottom shims due the lifting vs the glass door handle. Slide the bottom shims while the screws are loose until the glass door is level and then tighten the screws. Done!

Just this week the shower door started rubbing the glass on a single door application. I removed the drip shield at the bottom and got inside the shower. I put the wedges in on top of each other from opposite sides. I loosened the two Phillips screws and gave some taps on the inside wedge, and nothing moved. Light bulb in my head went off and thought that piece of 3/8” glass is heavy. Tapped more on the wedge and it kept moving. Looked up and there was a 3/16” gap similar to the bottom. Tighten all the screws and it fixed. I’m pretty mechanical, but working around glass has a pucker factor.

I hear you…the quick DIY can be “free” or get expensive real quick. To put your mind at ease I actually used an impact drill on my screws eventually. Loud/glass rattled… But it was all good.

You left out that you also need to insert small hard plastic shim pieces inside the hinges to prevent this type of slippage in the first place. This door will slip again in a few months. I also replace the dried-out rubber gasket with double-sided Monster tape.

I havent had to adjust mine since i was able to find the right size phillips head (#3) and put enough torque on screw. No more issues

This is very true. My new install is sagging after just a few weeks and the unqualified idiot who installed it didn't know to use the shims. He left them and said "these are for a different type of door". At least I have them so I can fix it myself. It's just a little daunting to work with such a heavy slab of glass. Knowing what I know now, I'd never get frameless doors again.

Using an impact driver with a #3 screw tip works well. Once hand-tight, full throttle on the impact gun for 2 to 3 one-second intervals outghta do it. You'll break the metal hinge or screws long before it breaks the glass.

The hinge was loose from the plate screwed to the wall. I had to remove the door to tighten. There appears to be adjustment screws on the wall side of the hinge but they are too tight. Anyway, thanks for the video!❤

Another youtuber demonstrated an acrylic rod can be used as a permanent shim so the door will always be in contact with the hinge. He linked 100 rods for 16 dollars off amazon.

Perfect thanks! This was helpful. Was a bit nervous with the glass but it went ok. My 'shims' were a pair of gloves and thick socks, but they did the job 😄 Didn't get it perfect but the place is a rental, so it'll do. The upper gasket is falling apart so I guess I'll tell my landlord who won't care.

Thank you for this video. My problem is not side to side, as you have shown how to fix here, rather front to back. That is when the bottom of the door is flush with the shower side glass the top stick out. How do you make that adjustment?

Make sure if you need a phillips head screw you get the right size. I needed a #3 phillips head (little more heavy duty) for this one. Glad it helped!!

Seems this is a slippery slope. Mine holds for about 2 months and then needs to be adjusted again. Having the right drill bit (#2 or #3 phillips head usually)

Unclear about adjusting the glass door after loosening the screws. This being an important part so need to slow down the video with visual clear instructions. Also what if the screws are on the top of the door? Have not been able to fix the dropped door using this video 😢

Hi, this adjustment procedure works great. But after a few weeks I have to adjust it again. I just had new shower door hinges installed, and three weeks later, the door is out of alignment and the bottom of the door drags against the tile. What am I doing wrong? Why won't it stay adjusted? Any help is much appreciated.

My screws are phillips head #3. I only specify that because I wasn't getting a good "bite" when adjusting. So make sure you using correct bit for your screw (could be allen wrench, torx, or phiilips). The other issue is probably that you are not tightening them enough. I use impact driver (drill driver is probably ok just make sure you don't strip) on mine...need to put quite a bit of torque on screw to get it to stay. Make a long story short you aren't tightening them enough. Had that issue early on with my door (about every two months had to adjust again). Haven't adjusted it in over a year since i used the steps above to adjust it.

I have a shower similar to that one. It seems like they didn’t push the glass back or closer to the wall. When water is splashed, it leaks at the bottom and outside it the glass. And this is the side glass not the door glass. I am also not able to close the door properly. What could fox this?

I tried this and the door hinge got much worse. My husband had to call in someone on a Sunday. He said our door is double-tempered glass and requires 3-4 people to do the job. It’s a good thing it didn’t fall on me. This only works for light doors!

I am so happy to see this video I have the same hinges on my swinging glass door but the gasket has gone (melted) and glass shower door does not swing any more and does not close all the way. I am senior citizen and called few places they are asking over 450$ to fix it. May I know where I can get the 2”by 3” gaskets? They are not available in any stores like Home Depot or Canadian tire I am in Ottawa ontario please guide me. Thank you

Hello and thank you for sharing this video. I have a sagging door, like that shown here. The hinges on my installation have set screws on the inside edge of the clamp that holds the glass door. Are these adjusting screws to maintain that gap you mention at 01:24 of the video?

Hi I was able to use this trick on my first door and it fixed it. However, I’ve done the same trick on my second door and it’s not fixing it. I’ve tried loosing the top and push it in because my top part is not closing flush with the other side. Any tips?

Measure distance between screw holes…try and source same “looking” hinges through sites like build. Match holes distance when ordering. Tough to help through youtube!

Not all phillips head bits/screwdrivers are the same. Make sure u have what i’m assuming is a #3 phillips head screwdriver. Also, you may not be tightening enough.

Impact drill. That would be my first option. Make sure you use correct phillips/allen screw size. Most “stripping” occurs due to improper size bit. There are 3 different sized commonly used phillips head bits or drivers. I need a #3 for these (largest)

@@how2q May I ask you a question? The house is new, built in May 2022. Once we fix the shower door, as you detailed, will this problem reoccur as time goes on? And if it does, is there something we can do now to prevent this happening again? BTW, the hinges are exactly like the ones on our shower. Thanks

@@jimh4188 well stating the obvious here, but whoever installed that did a pretty bad job. The rest of the story on this door is I would have to adjust it about every 2 to 3 months until I used the right Phillips head and an impact driver drill. make sure you have the right Phillips head for the job. Not every Phillips head is created equal. Use a number three which will give you a better grip. I actually used an impact drill on this one. I think it’s almost been 18 months once I used the impact and correct Phillips head. I hope that helps. if you don’t have an impact drill, driver, just try to hand tighten and see how long it lasts. If you’re having to adjust it every 2 to 3 months then definitely get an impact driver

Does not deal with the issue which is that the spacers inside are not doing their job. Do this and you’ll be at it every couple of months until the screws get torn up. Add material to the shims.

Thx todd. Must have a lot to do with the quality of the hinge. I need to tighten mine every five or six months. Not too bad compared to what I’ve seen some other people have to do. Appreciate your input

Can I adjust both the door and panel up about an eight of an inch in the same way using shims ??? Thanks for your help.

What do the allen set screws do on the interior side of the hinge? I'd it possible to grind the cutout of the glass to make the cutout larger? My glass door hasn't sagged. But won't close as it hits the edge of the pony wall

Wondering if you can loosen hinges and adjust door towards hinge without flat side hitting wall (wall opposite of pony). Maybe glass is too far out from hinge?

Same!! So frustrating. Our manufacturer is sending us new hinges but I don’t think it’s going to work. It’s been happening since we bought the door. I have to do it after every shower. Its ridiculous

I have this problem almost every 6 months. Is that normal? Same design hinge - just with hex wrench screws. I use the shower once a day...

So i used to have to adjust about the same amount of time. I ended up using a #3 phillips head (correct size) and an impact driver. Don't go too crazy but I haven't touched it in almost two years.

How do you tighten the part that the hinge pivot on mine looks like it’s coming off the wall

If your hinge is starting to come out of the wall you may have a bigger issue. Somehow that connection has been compromised. You could tighten but it will probably loosen again. May need longer screw or slightly larger one if possible

Oh definitely use anything that will allow you to limit glass on glass contact and also prop up glass

I ordered my shower door and it appears to be about 2 inches too short. Well we can adjust the glass about an inch. But, we need a possible hack to connect the top bar to the wall of the glass sliding door. any thoughts? Trying to fit s 60 inche wide glass sliding door into a 62ish inch shower opening. It took forever for this door to ship do to back orders.

Hinge not tight enough.probably slipping. Sometimes rubber inside hinge dries/wears out
