That is what we are dealing with. I've removed the plate but the cylinder mechanism itself just will not budge. How did you handle this?

Happened to notice your query - wellll - we pulled REAL HARD,,, and broke it internally. SO new approach: Replace the drain plate with a flat one (no lever), and replace the drain in the floor with one the works with a stopper... I wasn't ready to go any deeper than that. But at the end of the day it works and looks fine. Yeah it's not what you wanted to hear but then again maybe it is... ;-)

You should've used CLR to get rid of the calcium buildup then you MUST grease it before putting it back in. That's why you keep having the same problem

What do you mean? Mine is "stuck" open right now. I have replaced the whole mechanism before a few years ago. I don't understand why this happened again.

When the end of the toggle that moves up and down is Down, that lifts the other end up. So just think of it as. Down is Open and water is flowing out, and Up is Closed and water will fill the tub.

you can try spraying some wd40 back there, or lightly tapping it with a rubber mallet. If its froze up, it could be rusted together. The WD should take care of that.

Lightly tap on it with a rubber mallet or something that will not do any real damage. Theres a chance its just rusted or froze up. And maybe a light jossle will knock it loose. Just a thought.

I had stuck assembly also. WD40 will not help. banging with hammer from the top did not help. Checked actual condition of stopper with usb snake camera. The thing is WELDED solid to the pipe due to corrosion!

Boy thats a tough one. i was going to suggest a magnet down there, but i don't want you to lose that too. Sorry i can't be of more help in this. Is there anything down there at all?

Don't listen to him. Pour CLR down that part and leave it for 10-15 minutes. It should come right out. It's happening because of calcium buildup. After it's removed soak it in CLR and wipe it off. Repeat until all the calcium is removed. Then you have to grease it before you put it back in. Marine grease works the best but you can use other thick greases

Worth a try, seems like it would work either way, to open it or close it. Did you try, if so, did it work? It didn’t work at first for me, but after i giggled it for about a minute, it worked.

if you can get those 2 screws out, and the plate off, spray some wd40 down there to help it loosen up.

I think you meant WOULDN'T come out. Glad the guy responded to suggest what to do in that case.

If you have a shop vac id start with that. Otherwise you can find small grabby tools on extensions from local auto parts stores

The CLR bottle states that it should not be used on brass. And to the WD40'rs, WD stands for "water displacement." WD40 is NOT a lubricant. The purpose of the product is to shed water from the surface it is applied to.

@@dannichols6261 I wish I knew because I have one that is stuck. CLR is an acid and they say acids are bad for brass. I imagine all you could do would be to disassemble the drain assembly and tap the stopper loose with a dowel or something. Then you have to clean the buildup out of the tube and the stopper, lube it up, and put it back together. That is a lot of work! When I installed mine, just several years ago, I did grease it up and it still got stuck. Maybe I didn't grease enough inside the tube, I don't know. I went with brass because I was thinking it would be more durable. Next time I'm just going with a PVC set. Hopefully those don't corrode up.

@@demeaningplebny1363 Yeah, I haven't attacked my stuck one yet, but I have considered pouring distilled white Vinegar down the toggle-bar opening to see if that might release it, and then a lot of water afterwards whether it does or not. I think the Vinegar is a weak acid, and water rinse after might be ok. Grease was such a good idea, too bad it didn't work! I'd try tapping with a dowel, but I'd probably hit an attachment part (of the linkage between the stopper and the toggle assembly) and break that & then the stopper would REALLY be stuck there!!

@@dannichols6261 Oh yeah, you would have to disassemble it to reach it with a dowel. I have an access panel, but it's behind the dryer, so that would have to come out which is a major PITA in-of-itself, then I might have to still go down in the crawl space. And THAT'S why it's still stuck. 😕
