Update: over a year in and still going strong. • Guitar fix update
Do this at your own risk! I did this to a cheap guitar and it seems to have worked pretty well. My bridge was coming off and the body was badly warped. I will recommend removing any electronics from the guitar as the water could hurt them.
What I used to straighten my guitar and fix the bridge:
1. A wet towel
2. Superglue (for the bridge)
3. 8 big nails (6 big enough to fit snugly in the bridge holes)
4. Vice Grips
5. A ratchet strap

The expressions of "uh oh" in the faces of those little girls is hilarious. The repair won't last, but it was fun to watch. Maybe we can all watch you do it again after you have done a bunch of research. There is nothing like a cheap instrument to serve as a training aid.

Just when I was about to give up on this video you brought out the super glue.. You sir are an icon. I fix everything that breaks in my household and it only takes super glue, duct tape, and wd-40.

Guitars suffer greatly from low, high or fluctuating humidity. If it's been in the back of the truck, that means exposure to moisture, heat and cold. That's what's behind the warped face. They do bear much pressure and with any help in gaining or losing temperature, gaining or losing moisture, it's overall structure can change and often does. I have a 2009, Washburn dreadnought plytop that's warped but sounds like a solid top Gibson, made in the 50s or 60s. I'm about to attempt routing out the bone saddle slot deeper and sanding down the bridge to accommodate for the height change. The goal being to get the strings down lower without removing the bridge and sanding it down from the bottom, using extremely slight movements over sandpaper placed on the warped spot where the bridge is placed,(a grueling task, as you could imagine.) Because I don't trust my eyes to measure from the 12th fret to the saddle with any accuracy and judgment, I'll have to wait till I'm done to see whether or not the bridge was twisted forward in the damage. If so, it will be useless because the intonation will be moved too far towards the 12th fret, rendering each note worse and worse off the further one goes down the neck. If that is the case, I will route the bridge out that much on the back, shim the front and try that. One thing's for sure, I do not believe I'm going to give up on the sound or the beauty of the wood of this inexpensive washburn. (The rosewood fingerboard, swirls back and forth three times between the 8th and 20th frets. It is gorgeous. I wish for anybody with this problem knowledge, wisdom and some luck. Fortunately for you this one is not a special guitar, only your knock around. That's a good thing. I enjoyed this, thanks.

Good idea.. from what I’ve learned if you take your time taking out the bow allowing a larger surface of the wood to settle back to level then When u restring you don’t get the bow back. The fact it did that good, that quick!.... nice.

I've learned especially with a 12 string acoustic, that when travelling or prolonged periods of inactivity to back the strings off to relieve the pressure and use a humidifier stick in the hole to keep the wood from drying out (Better sound). When ready just re tune and off you go. Great fix!

It amazes me you thought to make a video but didn't think to us the internet to research how to fix such a common issue. Believe me the $25 bucks for a bridge doctor is well worth it.

Yeah but bridge doctor changes the tone of the bridge, and u have to drill into the guitar which people may not wish to do

No, I was wrong. Here's the video where I got the idea of sending the bridge over the hump spot. That's not how he did it. He created a hump to sand the bottom of the bridge on, he did not use the top of the guitar as I suggested. The gentleman's name is Stew Mac. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iLJxf7ZjyKiReXU.html

Brother, where do I begin. First off, for anyone watching this looking for instructions or ideas to fix a warped guitar top/bridge pulling,,,, for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT do what this fine gentleman did. - spraying water directly in a guitar,,,,,, yikes. If you want to add moisture to a guitar you do so by adding humidity slowly, not pouring water into the thing. - a swelled top such as what this guy appears to be dealing with would be a sign of an overly humidified guitar,,,, therefor the solution would be to remove moisture in order to bring swelling down, not adding it - the idea of overly humidifying to address damage is not unheard of,,,, but would be done more in the case of fixing a cracked top due to under humidification - as far as the bridge pulling off, the ONLY real fix for this is to have the bridge removed completely, resurfacing the top, and re-glueing it back on. Period. Bottom line, this appears to be a budget $100 guitar, not some $3000 investment so at the end of the day, if he destroyed this axe, not a major issue. Just buy another. Heck, unless there was some sentimental value to this instrument or it was truly an expensive guitar I’d probably just say go the route of buying a new one over repairing the bridge. If my bridge popped on my Taylor or Martin, dang right I’m fixing it. A for effort and DIY, D- for real world solution. I’ve always been one to do my own work and would be more than capable of resetting a bridge,,, I would have just guided you down the correct path over this. Frankly, I’d highly suggest you delete this video. It’s just simply the wrong way to attack the problem at hand,,,, unless of course you were being satirical. I get your mindset it was just misguided. The root of your problem you hit directly on the head, keeping or having your guitar in the bed of your truck long term is a terrible idea. You’d be exposing it to direct sunlight, heat, cold, humidity, lack of humidity, etc etc etc. For a junker, don’t care about your guitar, go right ahead and keep that in the back of the old truck but be ready to replace it every year or two. Guitars are best kept in controlled environments that aren’t subject to extreme temp or humidity changes. You wouldn’t want to keep them in attics or basements for this same reason. If you want to bring the swelling down add some silica gel packs inside the sound hole and check it every day for progress. Adjustments to guitars take time, don’t be in a hurry. May take 5-7 days to bring it back down to normal. That said you’d still need the bridge re-glued after the fact. Cheers brother!

So if I understand correctly you're suggesting he'd just throw his cheapo guitar away and buy another instead of trying to improve it? Nobody is going to get a professional bridge reset on a 100$ beater guitar.
@dmbandnick
@dmbandnick 2 жыл бұрын
@@user-mp9xu9of8k read my reply again. I said if he ruins this guitar, no big deal because it isn’t worth a damn. What he is doing isn’t going to improve the instrument. He’d have just as much success hitting it with a hammer. There’s a right way to do this and a wrong way. This video is the wrong way. Hit it with a hammer, dump a bucket of water in it, toss it off the roof,,,,, doesn’t matter because it’s a budget guitar. But if he wanted to do this right he could and that wouldn’t necessarily involve a pro bridge reset.

Thanks for sharing. I’m doing this to one that is very severe. Will let it settle for days before restringing and will get back and let everyone know how things went. It’s real bad.

Maybe it's better if you wait for the guitar to dry before you pur the strings
