If you're having issues with fan noise, low AC fan air flow, or major vibrations in your dashboard/center console when you increase the fan speed, this video is for you. Chances are that these are issues related to a dirty blower motor that is clogged up. I go over how to remove the paneling to locate your blower motor. Before replacing your blower motor, clean it out very well and see if it solves any of these issues you are having.
The process is not difficult but will require the proper tools which I go over in the video. Hopefully this helps you out as there was very little online as to what the issues I was having could be.

You're still helping folks! Thanks very much for the video. With your instruction, it took me exactly 45 minutes including the at-speed 2 mile test drive after it was all done. For those of you that come after, both of those bolts are 10mm. One socket and one 10 mm open wrench will do the trick. The second one just requires patience. The culprit in my 2013 328i was a single ficus leaf. But that single ficus leaf made the A/C sound like my dash was going to vibrate off. Thanks Leverage!

That second bolt is not so bad to remove. But even with the correct (stubby) open-end wrench, it’s a royal bitch to put back in. Getting the thread started is almost impossible!

Thank you! I followed your example today and only got a few leaves out but it made all the difference. The video is very useful as I had no idea how to access the fan easily. Surprising that you had so much rubbish inside. The fan seem to take the air from the car inside, not from the outside. in my car the cause was a parking ticket which slipped through the space between dasgboard and the windscreen. The whole procedure is super simple, even taking out the 'difficult' screw was easy, but putting it back, was close to impossible. I did not have patience, and simply put tie-wrap instead.

You are my savior. Incredible video. For your info, those 2 bolts you mentioned are the same, 10mm. You need a 10mm socket with extension and a 10mm wrench. My blower fan ended up having 3 baby creatures of some sort. Not sure what they are, but the car works great now. Huge Thanks and Great Video.

I'm glad the video helped you! Yeah some time after I fixed it, I started to see signs of a rodent and I wonder if that's how the leaves got into that area. So it's possible that it's the same in your case. Usually it will be either rats or squirrels so I would check to make sure you don't have chewed cables because I had both cables running to the door handles in the sideskirts chewed and cowl panel with chew marks and I just noticed a few days ago the insulation foam pad under the engine cover is chewed up and the valvetronic harness is chewed with one of the wires inside split as well which I never noticed. I'm going to buy peppermint spray and spray it under the hood which apparently repels them. I would do the same if I were you! Glad it's running like normal!!

The blower motor intake cover has two bolts. One on the left side, facing the firewall. The other is on the right side, and the head of the bolt is facing the driver's side. The clearance on that bolt does not allow enough room for a ratchet, so I had to use an open ended 10mm wrench, and even then, you can only back it out one quarter turn at a time due to the lack of clearance. This one bolt took more time to remove than for everything else. So be aware. This is a very simple maintenance procedure with the exception of that bolt. You've been warned.

@leveragelifestyle8581
@leveragelifestyle8581 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, it would depend. If you open up the compartment like I show in the video and there is a lot of junk in there that could be preventing the fan from spinning, it is very likely that could be the case. Do you have strong vibrations when you turn up the fan on high? If not, then it might be the blower motor itself or a part of it that's not working and it might need to be replaced by accessing it under the glove compartment.

@leveragelifestyle8581
@leveragelifestyle8581 6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, it may be the blower motor itself if it only happens when the AC is on. I would remove it and clean it all out in addition to your air filter if you haven't in a long time. The blower motor can be removed under the front passenger seat in the same way the filter would be removed. There will be screws on the right side, under the glove compartment that you have to unscrew to take the blower motor out. Perhaps it's dirty or needs to be lubricated in certain areas. This is what I would check first if the symptoms you notice only happen when the AC is on.

You might have a leaf stuck inside the blower as well, you should open it from under the glove box and make sure everything is clean inside were the fan is.
@MEMcAndrews
@MEMcAndrews 10 ай бұрын
Believe it or not, removing the blower motor (from the inside, beneath the glove box) is far simpler than this exterior access at the base of the windshield. Both may need to be done, though. Clean out the exterior intake AND remove leaves from inside the blower motor/squirrel cage. Yes… it’s hard to believe that leaves CAN make it all the way into the squirrel cage.

LeverageLifestyle oh ok cause my f30 is making a strange sound and I can’t figure out what it could be. It only does it once in a while and sounds like it’s between the engine and tranny but on the top side of it. That’s where the sound led me at least. Put it out the ramps and crawled under and it was coming from above so I was thinking maybe this could be the same problem but you can only hear the noise from outside the vehicle maybe very very faintly from inside when everything is quiet but soon as you open the door damn is it loud...
@leveragelifestyle8581
@leveragelifestyle8581 4 жыл бұрын
@@huckilt Is it when you turn up the AC? The sound and vibration I talk about in the video only appears when you turn up the fan on the AC. When it was off, it wouldn't do it. That would help determine if it has anything to do with the blower motor/AC. Hopefully it has nothing to do with it but maybe oil pump assembly or timing chain. You mentioned F30 which is what I have. I didn't have a noise but people have said sometimes when the chain is going out it makes noise (it can fail without making noise - mine was failing with no noise and I replaced timing chain). Either way, look into the timing chain because it's an issue with the N20 engines made between 2012 and 2014 if yours falls between those years.

LeverageLifestyle I have the n55 I’m pretty sure it’s prolly not the blower motor cause it does it at random on its own without me changing anything. The heat comes on when I start and it usually don’t start making noise for about ten fifteen mins after I start it. I can shut it off and start it back up and sometimes it will stay making the noise other times it stops. It’s so strange of a sound too I have a video I recorded of it.
