I thought the leak came from the selenoid, as it was hard to tell from the water spray. Therefore, I changed the selenoid but when I reconnected it, there was a leak. I found out the hard way that there was a crack in the plastic tubing. It could be that the selenoid was clogged so it built up pressure and cause the tubing to crack. The tubing is likely 20 years old anyhow. Thanks for the VID.

I did the same repair last fall, put in a new solenoid, tried it out and the water still didn't flow. It ended up I had to clean the water orifice with a wire strand and then it worked. I kept the new solenoid because the old one was 25 years old anyway.

When I had mine installed, I instructed the installer to use a proper tee fitting and a proper shutoff valve rather than one of those saddle valves. For one thing I'll be turning it on and off twice a year and a saddle valve is really not made for that. Every time you operate your saddle valve you're increasing the odds it'll leak or break.

That's true.i couldn't even disassemble it to try and clean it. I need to redo all of the pipes, it's a maze of copper, galvanized and cpvc.

When you use the humidifier's on/off why do you need to turn the water on/off? Let the water be always on. Let the humidifier's on/off control the water. Same with the furnace itself. When furnace is off, humidifier will not pull water.

Hi Daryl. Thanks for video. Question: did you say it doesn't matter how you connect the wires? My new selenoid has two identical yellow wires while the wires coming out of the furnace are blue and red.
@darylturcott8 ай бұрын
It shouldnt matter. The wires are just energizing the valve.

@@darylturcott with the selenoid came a little screen. I didn't in your video whether you added a screen or not. Is that necessary? I should mention I live in Colorado and the water is is pretty hard.

On mine it was just the brass fitting on the inlet side of the solenoid that was clogged. Luckily I didn't have to take the solenoid apart.

What’s the wiring if you have a humidistat? Right now, my solenoid wires are connected to one green wire from the humidistat and one white wire from the furnace. The red wire from the humidistat is connected to the red wire from the furnace. I don’t believe my humidifier has ever worked and I just replaced my solenoid valve. I know I’m getting 24 volts because I checked and I know water is getting to the solenoid.

If u have a volt meter you should be able to tell when humidistat is energizing the enid, causing it to open. The humidistat works just like a light switch and computes the circuit.

Hi, Thanks for the informational video, 1 question, so am I understanding when you put the wires back it's not important to remember which wire goes with what wire?

I have been searching for a solenoid valve to replace my “general“ brand 1099 on furnace humidifier. The numbers on my current label are as follows: 24/60, 8.5 watts, 3/32 orfice. There seems to be so many out there that they all look very similar. Will this one work?

If water flows even though the furnace is OFF, can this be a solenoid issue? (its a new issue so i know its not the wiring) - IF so, can solenoid be repaired (Cleaned) or is it automatic replacement?
@darylturcott3 жыл бұрын
It should not be getting power until the furnace comes on. If water is flowing it is likely stuck open. You could try removing it and pouring vinegar in the mechanism. Tgat might clean out any scale.

anyone have an aquarium pump under the humidifier to catch the condensate and humidifier water and pump it to another drain ? I’m wondering why there is 2 wires connected to the furnace mother board. The pump float when full works and pumps water. Why does it need a signal wire ?

Without seeing the diagram i can only guess it might be related to a humidifier if you have one installed?

Daryl, Great video. Can you help me locate an inexpensive universal solonoid valve for my Aprilaire 112: their part # 4005: it is a 120 volt valve. All I can find are in the $770 to $150 range. They must make a universal that would work but I can't find one. I am willing to jerryrig and fasten to the outside of the unit, etc. So any help in locating a cheaper valve would be appreciated. Thx, Bill
Daryl, can you answer this question: The humidifier should run only when the furnace runs. They run concurrently. Is that correct?

Thanks for the great video, Can you help me locate a QUALITY solenoid that is also quite inexpensive for my humidifier? I'm located in Canada, and cannot find one anywhere. Maybe I could use a universal solenoid? I don't know. Any advise? There is absolutely no water pouring into the humidifier. There is plenty of water coming out of the pipe, but after the solenoid, NOTHING. PLEASE HELP Here are the details about the solenoid I currently have: KSD Com. Type HB1. Orifice 1/16 AC 24V. 6.4W. honeywell 32001639-002 is the replacement part number. But a generic uh24 will work just fine.
I would check the Canadian sites for Walmart, amazon and ebay.

I purchased the one you recommend. It was a universal 24v solenoid. It worked for the first 15 minutes. The solenoid was clicking here and there during testing, then when I secured it to the humidifier, it stopped working. I checked the voltage while the furnace was on and nothing showed up. I think it should usually show 24v right? Can you help me? I ordered another solenoid of similar one to troubleshoot this issue. I did unplug the 24v transformer to see if that is dead, but that seems to be working fine. The furnace wouldn't turn on without the transformer, so I assume the transformer is working fine. With the transformer plugged back in, the furnace was running fine again. With all this being said, the humidifier isn't working again because there is not water going into the humidifier. The water line is open, the wiring is correct, and I replaced it with a new solenoid. Not sure what the issue is. Just you said in your video, the new solenoid was also shaking a bit and clicking continuously for few seconds before it sh Topped working. Any idea how to fix this?
