Japanese iphone living in the US and can confirm there is NO shutter sound. I didn’t have to change any settings but I looked this up because after 3 years of the shutter sound, I was scared I had some kind of spyware when it was completely silent. Glad to find out it’s an official feature! 😂

for the guys who are still suffering even after updating to ios 15 , make sure you have inserted the sim , if your sim in not in , the problem continues

on ios 15.3.1 if I use the silent / vibrate switch on the side of the phone, the camera shutter sound it is silenced, it was not prior to this version. There is NOT any setting that I could find that turns the shutter off, like in the non-Japanese phones.

It works only when the silent switcher turned on and the iphone is connected to a cellular network. When the iphone is on the airplane mode the camera shutter sound works again 🥲

Wonderful videos! How about if one buys a secondhand iphone 11 in Japan, then registers it for use outside of Japan (and also not in Korea where apparently same rule applies) registering one's AppleID there. But an added 'twist'... how about if one uses an eSIM in Japan temporarily? I am a Canadian tourist who will be electronics shopping in Tokyo.

Hello Mr. Nebaa, many had confirmed about this, but I would like to know more about this. I’m in Japan, looking to purchase the phone here, but have an international sim with me on an old phone. I’ve read about this in the same community. If you activate a brand new Japanese iPhone with an international sim, will the shutter sound be turned off?

It works if you are i) Not located in Japan 2) insert a sim card from another country. Both conditions must be met.

I hope inserting an international sim card to a brand new phone in Japan would kill that annoying shutter sound. I had few acquaintances telling me that it had happened. Really good to purchase here because it's everywhere and its cheaper compared other countries. But the sound, makes the foreigners repulsive to purchase here.

It works. For some people. Make sure to keep your sim in the phone then turn on the mute button on the left or enable live photos

As long as you keep a sim card from a different country in the phone, there will be no shutter sound.

Hi, I am using a Japanese iPhone 12pro model. When I was in India the camera shutter sound used to be on silent mode. However, I have recently came to South Korea (where same rules applies like Japan) my phone region is still set to India, but my camera shutter have started making sound out of nowhere. Currently i am on IOS 16. Any help would be much appreciated..!! Thak you..!!

I believe it will turn on again if you return to Japan. Because from what I know, it uses GPS and the the sim card Network to determine your location.

Just bought an iPhone 13 pro, the Japanese version.. I live in India, updated my location, inserted local sim and my current iOS update is 15.4.. However, the shutter sound still exists. The shutter sound is not there when on silent mode.. Is keeping the phone on silent mode the only way to keep the shutter sound turned off?

No it’s not work i just tried. But maybe there is a button to switch otherwise with mute volume the sound is still there

There's no button to switch it off. After updating, they just use the iPhone's silence button to mute it. Or they enable live photos. Did you try doing that? And also, there's another update to iOS 15.1. if iOS 15 didn't work for you, then try the 15.1 update.

I confirm. iPhone 13 pro max Japan version and with IOS 15.1 with UAE sim no shutter sound. If you put in aero plane mode shutter sound comes back.

Maybe the iPhone identifies the Philippine’s geo location as identical to Japan. Can you try changing the phone’s physical location (in the phone settings) back to UAE?

@@matotim It depends; if you are currently using ios14 or lower it should work when you update to ios16. If you already have ios15 or later and you are in Japan I doubt it won’t. Shutter sounds are exclusively for iphones in Japan, you can try changing your phones region (location) if that works.

It only works if u use a sim card of the region your in , so far that's the only thing that silences the shutter If u use the iPhone without a sim the shutter sound will come back even if it's muted Once I put a du sim the sound was gone when on silent

It works, but when your phone is in airplane mode or in no coverage area sound comes back.

From what I see, it is hit or miss. Some people say it works but others say it doesn't. So bear that in mind when making your purchase decision.

I got X's . With 15.5 and shutter sound is still there even in silent mode

When you change your region, put and the sim card, you can enable live photos or toggle on the silent switch. That's how others get it to work.

After the update, put your sim in the phone and enable live photos or enable silence mode using the switch on the top left

@@j.c.inaudito1137 yes po. nung bagong bili ko nabobother tlga ako sa shutter sound ksi nga hindi pwede ma off dahil japan version. pero nagulat ako after ko mag update ng iOS 15.1 napansin ko na nawala na yung sound kapag nag picture. Akala ko nga may sira, kaya nag search ako then nakita ko tong vid. So, totoo nga, dahil sa update iOS 15. :)

@@albysajan3969 I can confirm that if u put in a local sim card of your country the camera shutter sound will go away I have a iPhone 13 pro And just 1 hour ago my uncle bought the 13 pro max Both are japanese j/a model no His iPhone had the loud shutter button and I was confused why mine was silent ( the 13 pro max at this point did not have a sim) We spent the whole night changing region muting decreasing volume Playing a song and then taking a picture Didn't work I put in my du sim card ( du is a UAE sim ) And no shutter sound On iOS 15.1.1
