**PLEASE READ** I want to be upfront and say in the end, this didn't hold up entirely for me as a couple of days later, we had a very hot day and it began to not work again. I think it was hot enough for it to come loose again. So I took it all apart again and placed a pen that I had cut in half as to just barely fit between the chip and the metal arm just above as to apply constant pressure to the chip. This has since fixed it entirely for me! Not only that, my FM/AM

I just tried this and it worked perfectly! My AM/FM radio stopped working completely and when i would connect to the Auxiliary the music would cut out every few seconds and then stopped working completely with a popping noise. Well done and much appreciated. Being in St. Louis area, I know heat will make this a potential re-fix but at least I know some possible work-arounds now to make it more permanent.

For everyone's SA: I had this exact issue with my 2013 wrangler. Did the video fix, and it worked great for a few days. Did the southern engineering tip in the update, and that also worked for a few more days. When all was said and done, I took the radio apart and brought it to a cellphone repair store (or you can use any place that does micro-soldering). They fixed the chip for $25. Not a bad price, and it's worked perfectly ever since.

I had this same issue, I was able to fix it thanks to your video. I live in Texas so will definitely keep an eye on it when we have hot summer. But I seen your comment about having constant pressure so I will keep that in mind. With the cooler fall/winter weather I think it will be okay until next summer. Thank you for this information.

Okay...I was skeptical...but WOW! It worked for me! Thank you for the step by step detailed directions. Walked me through the process with success. Went ahead and added the brace for constant pressure. Crossing fingers it stays this way.

I really didn't want to buy a soldering tool - the candle lighter worked like a charm after a couple tries. Here's hoping it stays fixed!

Yes!!!!! Exactly my issue. I looked through many forum posts but nothing was quiet it. Taking it out and heating to stick it back in place fixed it. I also had to reset it after putting it back in. So happy it’s working again 🙌🙌🙌🙌 thank you haha

Thanks to you and YaBoyCai who you mentioned in the video. I have 2015 Wrangler so made it straightforward get to radio and then out. Not really difficult either. Between the 2 videos, fix worked perfectly so far....I didn't want to invest in heat gun which I'm sure is best method but figured and after testing, realized that unfortunately lighter probably doesnt get area hot enough. Decided to use hair dryer and made a "funnel" extension about 6" long ro about 1" round diameter on end of it with wrapped tape to get nice intermittent hot spot directly at location while pressing down with the chopstick. Worked for me. Hope this helps also, thanks.

Great fix to radio cutting out. A couple tips...Don't waste time removing air vents, they come out attached to the dash cover....Don't you a lighter to heat chip, use a hsir dryer on hot and hold down on chip while using the cool setting on dryer. Held down for one minute. I also did the heat and hold technique on the yellow transitor, just in case.

Worked exactly like you guy's said.... Just be cool with the flame or heat gun....After that, plugged the head unit back up just to check before putting everything back and it worked as said! THANKS AGAIN 👍!!!!

2015 Wrangler JK. It's amazing that there are individuals on here that know how to make a repair to the radio like this. I will mention that when I used my heat gun to heat the chip in question, I got it pretty darn hot with no ill effects to the Board. I don't recommend using a fireplace lighter w an open flame like I saw somewhere on here If I would have taken my Jeep in to the dealer or car audio, they would have had a field day with me. Your a lifesaver. My stereo was driving me nuts before I found this video.

Worked! Thanks! First try. Used a heat gun carefully to heat the chip area while pressing it down evenly with a wooden skewer. Then cut that skewer and wedged it between the chip and the metal bracket directly above it with pressure fit only. I didn’t glue it to the chip for fear of damaging the chip with super glue. Not only did the on/off sound problem go away but now the radio AM/FM works which never worked. 2012 Jeep Wrangler. Pretty easy fix. About 2 hours taking my time. Dash come apart easily like shown. I only had to remove one air vent. The one right of the window controls was all I removed.

Awesome! I helped my daughter buy a used wrangler and we forgot to check the radio! Sure enough it was broken. This fixed it! I used a soldering iron to get a little bit more solder onto a couple of dry spots in the upper left corner and then a butane torch to reflow the solder all around. Thank you especially for the encouragement with taking all the plastics off, including the vent detail. That was the hard part for us. It was all done within an hour!

Thanks!! This fix worked great and saved $$$ Did the lighter trick, used hot glue and a wooden dowel cut to size to hold the chip in place. Didnt have to do the reset. All workes good. ** note for 2014 JKU** turn the vents to 1 o'clock not 12 (strait up) use a flashlight until you see the hole open up, takes very little pressure.

Another one fixed! Even went as far as using the pen barrel to wedge the chip down so it doesn’t come lose. Good stuff man, thanks.

Dude! First off.... Great video! Very good on the step by step! Couldn't ask for anything easier! Second... Fixing the radio... You were right on. Ended up using a bamboo stick to hold down chip! So my Jeep just did the same thing over months time till no more sound from the radio. Saw this video, and 2 tries we fixed it. An hours time, or so is a lot better than a few hundred on a new radio . So than you.

Just made this repair to my 2014 Jeep Wrangler radio this past weekend. Worked perfectly! My AM/FM stopped working a few months ago and then last week, the radio sound would go on and off every few seconds. This repair fixed both issues! Thanks for the video!! Recommend using a heat gun, not an open flame.

Worked, great video! Added the small piece to keep it held down, as others suggested. Can also confirm no need to remove vents, they come out with the rest of the panel

So beyond pumped this fixed my jeep patriot radio! I used a heat gun and a popsicle stick to push the chip down.

Took me 4 lighter tries, but it's working for now on my 2015 Wrangler. Thank you! I haven't had a radio for a few years. It's a little crackly when I pause Bluetooth audio, but it's better than nothing! Hardest part is removing the vents. If they don't turn easily, you're not pressing the tab right. Seems like you may not need remove them. Thanks you!

Thank you - this fix worked for me. You actually only need to pop one of the central air vents to remove the window controls. I also got glued a dowel to the chip.

Thanks man for the video. Worked on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler radio. I ended up doing the tip listed in the comments of putting a piece of plastic from a writing pen on the plate and under the steel lip things. Just sawed off the right length. Again, thanks for the video.

100% was the issue. Used and filed down a piece of a clothes line clip, the wooden one, to wedge under that metal bracket to press it down. Worked first time. Should hold up just fine.

Great find, thanks for sharing. Was able to fix my radio issue. I post a cut to length a wooden chopstick secured against the screw bracket as a added measure to hold the chip in place. Wish I could post a pic.

I tried this today. I couldn't believe it worked. Radio, cd player, and auxiliary port for my phone all work again. My sound was going in and out and then finally quit all together. Working 10:48 great now.

Holy sh**, thanks for the video. It was extremely helpful in getting the dash apart. Used a micro tip butane lighter and heated up the chip, then used a cut down cap to a pen to hold the chip down pressuring off of the metal tab above. Seems to have solved the exact issue that you had. Thanks again…..BRILLIANT!!!

An important item to be aware of. If you closely observe, the little "latch" to unlock the vent is just right of the "p" in "Jeep". You need to line up the louver hole to be just right of the "p" to find the latch to pull down on. (see video about 2:35, where he is prying on the latch. You will notice that is it just right of the "p".)

I just had the same issue with my 2013 avenger. You dont even have to heat it up. I just cut a pen almost in half and wedged it in using the bracket lip right above it. Works fine. Used it on the one i got from the scrapyard as well and it works just fine as well.

Is there some type of glue / adhesive that could be used to hold the chip in place that is safe for electronics / conducts electricity?

Question: I have a 2001 pt cruiser. recently they put in a new radiator. I assume that they had to remove the car battery. When I came home, noticed that the radio has no power.what should I check first? I am not that much mechanically inclined. Thanks for your responses.

So I did this and surprisingly it worked when reinstalled radio but only for about 30 seconds, when I pulled radio back out it started working again so I played with the wires and found that the smaller antenna wire had a short so I zip tied the two antenna wires together and now it works fine, hope that helps

Totally worked for me. For anyone who gets the antitheft code...if you unplug the cd and power on the deck it enables the radio.... then plug the deck in again and the antitheft will have cleared

2017 wrangler here. Same issue. Why is this problem so common? That's so much work to fix an issue that seems to span several years from the factory. Seems we're better off just looking for an after market radio

Would it be alright to reconnect the unit after taking it apart and test it while working on it? Just so I don't put it all back together, reconnect it, and it doesn't work.

As much as I wanted this to work, my yellow connecting on the motherboard broke off…..and now it’s doing it constantly :(. Thank you though for trying!
