Just bought an N64 at a yard sale. Dude plugged it in and showed me that it worked. When it got home it didnt read any of my old cartridges and even stopped reading the game that came with the N64 and the dude just used to show me that it worked. Was so confused on why it just randomly stopped working. Cleaned the games and cleaned the inside on N64 with a Q tip; thinking that's it's all it needed to be done to clean it. Came across your video and immediately tried it. Problem Solved. Thank you very much :D

You are a life saver! After having lost my N64 in a bad break-up 11 years ago, I was without one until today, when one I ordered from eBay came in the mail. Much to my dismay, it wasn't reading games at all. Tried the solution proposed in this video, and it worked! My new N64 actually loads games now! Thanks a ton!

Some of my games flicker and others don't. I have done the cleaning with isopropyl alcohol thing on the cartridges themselves. Seems strange that only some games are affected.

You are a life saver. My n64 was the blue no signal screen but after this method I got it reading the game but now the screen is just flickering like crazy. Should I just persevere with this method or do you think it may be something else like the Hdmi adaptor? Rest of the console is clean, sound is perfect just flickering. The hdmi adapter works fine for the gamecube.
@KiloooNL3 жыл бұрын
Is it a cheap HDMI adapter? I've had a world of issues with the cheap adapters.

Still nothing for me. So I did all the steps and it still didn’t come on. I think my n64 game is fried and I need a new one.

I did this, and now I can play Nagano 98. My other game, Diddey Kong Racing, does however still flicker. Any idea why? Could it be because of the memory pak or HDMI-adapter? Can I be certain that the cartridge and nintendo is cleaned good enough, when Nagano 98 works?

In that event, there is likely something wrong internally with your N64

mine still says no signal... what do you recommend? tried with different games and cables

Usually if the issue still persists then there might be something on the board causing a problem

Some may need a new pin rack if damaged
@Rguy86753 жыл бұрын
It’s fine to use that technique but you have to let it dry because it will corrode the pins if you don’t let it dry! Trust me I fried my SNES doing that same technique!

Not exactly true - isopropyl alcohol is one of the best ways to remove and prevent corrosion damage from liquid spills on electronics.
@ramonalavigne895311 ай бұрын
The alcohol that I have is 99%. Is that the same as yours and is it safe to use on electronics?
@KiloooNL11 ай бұрын
Absolutely, no problem with 99% alcohol.

Any advice on what to do if the screen turns green and fades to black? I tried your method and cleaning underneath the slot but still the same thing..
@KiloooNL3 жыл бұрын
I've not come across that one before! I think an inspection of the board would be required, to check if any components had failed.

Picking time and characters fine but once it gets to that white screen it just freezes there I got it to work once but Im not even sure how it worked. Can you offer any suggestions how I can fix that problem ? Thanks in advance.

My N64 works with 2 games perfectly on a new Samsung HDTV. But 2 games work but are unplayable as there is a constant flickering and lines down the screen. Tried blowing cartridge and N64 but don’t work. Bought the 2 games again and same issue. Any ideas on why this is happening? Thanks
@KiloooNL4 жыл бұрын
Do the games require a Memory Pak? This may pertain to one issue. Otherwise, try isopropyl as mentioned in the video. Blowing into the cartridge doesn't achieve the same result. If the issue persists, there may be something wrong on the board.
@chrisphillips35264 жыл бұрын
KiloooNL is the memory pak in the controller? I know you can save the game and assume that’s via memory pak. Tried alcohol and blowing and no luck. Have a component connection cable coming but otherwise out of ideas and no idea how to fix a board issue. Is it possible new HDTVs can’t play old games?
