Just bought an N64 at a yard sale. Dude plugged it in and showed me that it worked. When it got home it didnt read any of my old cartridges and even stopped reading the game that came with the N64 and the dude just used to show me that it worked. Was so confused on why it just randomly stopped working. Cleaned the games and cleaned the inside on N64 with a Q tip; thinking that's it's all it needed to be done to clean it. Came across your video and immediately tried it. Problem Solved. Thank you very much :D

Might be a good practice to drop the FPC connector before heating. Just a hassle to balance properly continuing to heat board and tweeze drop your connector into a somewhat reasonable position. This obviously works but it has been easier in my experience to drop it first and then heat.

Hello!, I tried changing the entire Analog stick because of the drift, for some reason the controller still drifts, then I just removed the Analog stick, turn it back on, and Its magically drifting!, so it was never the potentiometer or the analog, it seems that it could be the board? Do you have any clue of what have happened? I cleaned every trace with soldering wick, there are no parts connected between them...I wonder.

I did this, and now I can play Nagano 98. My other game, Diddey Kong Racing, does however still flicker. Any idea why? Could it be because of the memory pak or HDMI-adapter? Can I be certain that the cartridge and nintendo is cleaned good enough, when Nagano 98 works?

I thought so too due to their being a cluster of micro components on the side you are heating from. Now I wonder if using heat transfer tape would just make attempting to heat the FPC connector pads from the underside a pain.
@Andrews2kx
@Andrews2kx 3 ай бұрын
@crypticscrutiny1153 you can use just on top. Even use small a nail cutter to cut plastic parts and use your iron with low fuse solder but, hot air is better. 1 minute at 350 C you remove it. For soldering new fpc i use c210 tip.

Amazing video and the reason I now have a working NS lite! For anyone wondering, I use an 858D SMD hot air rework station and I found that 480° on air flow 6.5 (around 60-70%) to be the sweet spot, although others may disagree 🙂

How the components on the odher side not fell off?
@KiloooNL
@KiloooNL Жыл бұрын
The components at the factory use non-lead solder which has a higher melting point than our leaded solder we used to replace the connector, so you can get it on without heating it to the point the non-lead solder melts. It takes a lot of patience, practice and skill.
@jack53104

So first you add leaded solder to decrease melting point? In the video you just show to heat from under.

Hey man i really need some help with one of my systems. I have a NS1 system and it gets quite a bit of audio interference it's especially noticable in ocarina of time. I can hear lots of electronic noise in the background and every time i switch menus it changes to different sounds. At 1st i thought it was an output cap on the power supply but i replaced that and it's still doing it. How can I reach you to show you?
@Silverturky
@Silverturky Жыл бұрын
Actually it might be the ns2 system I'll double check and make sure
@KiloooNL
@KiloooNL Жыл бұрын
It may be worthwhile replacing all the caps on the console to be sure. Are you using the original AV cable? The other thing that comes to mind is trying a different AV cable, as it may have some interference in the insulation.
@Silverturky
@Silverturky Жыл бұрын
@@KiloooNL I've tried every possible combination of original / after market cable with different games I've tried different TVs and all. It's the NS2 that's having the audio interference. I think I'll just go online and order all the caps for it. Another thing now too.. the NS1 system i have has started freezing with any games that utilize hi-res mode. Perfect dark, Turok 2 they all freeze at random intervals and i get some artifacts on screen when they freeze. Some horizontal lines. Any ideas on that? I've tried the same expansion pak on both consoles and it works perfectly on the ns2. If i disable hi-res the games run fine with no crashing.
