Thanks for the step by guide. Been meaning to do this for years now. Putting that rubber sleeve back on was a pain, but I followed your method of just getting one side to catch the lip and the rest was smooth sailing. Now my trunk pops up like a normal car. No more double pressing. Thank you!

Worked perfectly. Previous owner put 2 1p coins in them... Replaced it with the washers, 2 wasn't enough, 3 was too much. So put layered it 1 washer, 2 1p coins, then 1 washer.

My hatch getting stuck has been making me crazy for YEARS. I had to keep pressure on the release as I pulled up at the same time. This just saved me a lot of aggravation. Used metal washers. Easy fix. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Warning! If you add too much lift the guide rods will cause dents in the hood that look like little bumps! If you pre compress the spring you may dent the body where it touches down. Just keep in mind the engineers at Nissan are not smart enough to figure this out after nearly 20 years! It may be better to remove the weight they added or to buy the stronger trunk shocks!

I removed the weight, did a rear wiper delete, added two or three pennies, replaced the struts and my '04 still didn't open properly sometimes. One day I may try washers instead of pennies. Or a combination of the two.

I have to literally hold the button down while I lift the boot up. It can't be done with one hand, at first I thought it was just a really bad design 😂

My Z now has swelling on the outside of the trunk lid after installing few pennies into these a year or so ago, so it may be worth replacing the tired springs inside the boot.

Unfortunately, I've heard that can happen when you add more than two or three pennies (or washers?)...and slam the hatch down too hard. ☹️

Hi Just done this very simple mod and it works a treat. To make it a bit easier to reassemble, is to use a quick release hand clamp. squeeze it up to closed position and the rubber boot goes on without to much fiddling about. I wish I had seen this video before buying new struts. Thanks a lot
