This video shows you how I fixed a squeaky and noisy Maxxair fan MaxxFan Deluxe. I love my Maxxair Maxxfan Deluxe for helping cool my van in the hot summer months, but everytime they can develop a irritating squeak, this video shows step by step the process I went through to clean and fix my Maxxair Fan for noise and squeak free operation.

Thank you!! Our fan has been squeaking and irritating us for quite a while and I thought we’d need to get a new motor to fix it. I’d fiddled with it in the past and tried lubricating it without opening up the motor, but that didn’t help, of course. Your video gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to pull the motor, open it up, and clean it. Only thing I did wrong was I missed putting the washer back that goes at the end with the bushings. It was still making noise and then I found the washer laying near where I was working. Opened the motor up again and placed the washer, and now it’s as quiet as it was when new. We’re stoked to have this problem solved, especially because our fan is right above our bed, and the noise made it hard to fall asleep.

As a former electrical systems tech, I can safely say that I've cleaned/repaired who knows how many hundreds of these small motors over the years. You do good work. By the way, those little square parts aren't 'contacts' or 'bushings'. They are carbon brushes that transfer electrical current to the windings of the rotor, the part of the motor that spins. (Now how many in the comments are going to ignore the rest of the video and ping you about that? 🤣🤣)

Your right about the brushes but it turns great way to get more comments on the video😂

You know it's gonna drive those keyboard warriors insane. I like the idea of repair not throwaway. Akotof people would have tossed the fan.

@@nolehopkins1077 at the price of these units they arent a throw away item. They are a buck a dozen quality wise. Useless P.O.S has been a constant issue for us in every way and its the one thing im self built house truck that is a contant issue. If it wasnt so expensive etc i would have trashed it and found an alternative.

Being able to fix things isa great skill to have. If something is broke why not try to fix it. You're not out anything 50/50 chance ot can be fixed. Being resourceful is the best survival tool IMO. I like these type of videos.

Yep, this was definitely a useful how-to episode. We all have these fans in our campers now, so servicing them is inevitable. After watching, I feel like the average guy (me) or gal could do this. Happy Trails

Sounds like a collaboration with Chad might in the cards? Better stock up on that Montreal Steak Seasoning. As these fans are pretty much universal in the van life/overlanding community, I'm sure it was a helpfull topic for many, and the way you triaged the problem, moving from the simplest to more complex fixes, might be new to some viewers. A friend of mine began every repair with a little WD-40. I'm a turn it off and turn it back on guy, but a good cleaning is also a fine starting point . As always, thanks for sharing.

The bearings are probably made from sintered bronze. If you lubricate them with some oil (some resin-free oil would be fine) the sintered bronze will absorb the oil so you don't have to lubricate them for years.

A lot of residue is due to the natural wear of the carbon brushes and at some point the brushes will wear away and must be replaced mileage will vary upon fan usage. I’m thinking a possible upgrade would be to swap the motor to a brushless type after time.

Good video, but I'd strongly recommend wearing latex or nitrile gloves while doing this task, rather than spraying contact cleaner on your bare skin. That stuff contains chemicals that can be *nasty*. Also, an old toothbrush can be helpful in loosening up the gunk on any especially grungy spots.

appauled at quality of such expensive fans. failed control boards and these poor motors. Def would never have bought one for such a huge price if id have known it would be a constant problem. the one thing in our house truck that is a constant pain in the a**. Just pure trash. Exact same problem as this video shows. Ours had unbalanced fan blades from day one, id guess this caused the magnetic dust build up inside. Failed control board set off by cellphones being used in the vicinity, along with every other remote (tv sound bar etc) Failed button controls. almost every part has needed replacing or pulling apart.
