You saved my bacon buddy. The manual for the fridge shows set screws on the outside of the handle. They aren't there. I was about to try and split the handle open, glad I found this. Thanks a bunch

@@reelmeinent one of the doors on my Kenmore is lose but I be damned if I can break it lose pulling up on the handle. Almost lift the refrigerator off the floor trying to get the handle off. Is this common for the handle to be that tough to remove?

OMG THANK YOU!!! my handle completely fell off and I had no idea! Ours was slightly diffrent, with the brackets staying on the door and the screw attached to the handle and then slides down into the bracket but, this was so close that I was able to use ot to figure it out!!!

I have old phillips type screw hancle on LG frig that screw holes are loose over years. How to tighten the screws so the handle is securely tighten? I tried to put in some wooden tooth picks but it did not work still. We have to fill the holes with something I guess.

That's a new one for me. I would think the screw types have a catch nut on the inside of the door that when tightened bring the screw and nut closer together. Could be the screw holes are threaded and maybe stripped. In this case you may have to use some type of screw thread lock material.

I hold the handle like your showing and Ive tugged and tugged. It does not and will not go up like the video shows. In fact its moving the whole door up a little what I jerk on it. Why isnt mine doing like the video shows? :(

We have an Amana single door refrigerator (freezer on the bottom) and have procrastinated in getting it fixed. We had no idea it was so simple. However, our procrastination has allowed the bottom of the handle to be further from the door. Would your method still work without damaging the screw when sliding it up?

@@reelmeinent Thank you for your reply. The suction is very strong when opening the door. For some time, we found it easier to open the door by pulling on the lower part of the handle. Eventually, it became loose so we resorted to using the upper part. At the bottom you can see the screw and cannot push the bottom flush with the door. I wondered if it would bend the screw when sliding the handle up to release it. Until I saw your video, I had no idea how to repair the loose handle. Thank you.

@@LindaJohnson-wx1es Not 100% sure with the Amana's but I would think it is the same. Sounds like the mounted screw which the handle slides over has become extremely loose allowing for such a gap between the screw and door. There are clasp on the backside of the handle that slide over the mounted screws. Should be able to remove the handle as shown in the video then tighten the screws down, then slide the handle back over the screws. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Camera guy needs to be fired!!! Couldn't see through your back. UPDATE: After learning that a child was in control of camera, common sense led me to do the right thing. Two possibilities here. 1. Your handles are installed upside-down. 2. Your handle is so loose that it changes the angle of pulling it off the screws. Start with the good side. Pull it off. If it doesn't pull up, try pulling down. You gotta use some elbow grease, about enough to rock the fridge around. Put the good handle back on. Make sure it lines back up properly. On the Frigidaire it's a two-stage lock. If the screw is super loose, jiggle it until it comes completely out of the door. Now apply upward (or downward) pressure on the handle, but only the part that's still attached. Be careful not to scratch the door with that screw. Once the handle is 100% off, you need to remove the screw from the mechanism. There's a tensioner in the handle to keep the screw locked in (see other end of handle). Get a fairly big screwdriver and put pressure on that tensioner to get the screw out. It's trickier than it sounds. Be persistent. Once you have the screw in hand, put it back in the door and tighten it firmly. Tighten both of them. Replace the handle, and make sure it lines back up with the good handle.

@@metaltrekman I just checked mine. Stand real close and grab that handle high and low. Don't jerk it. Controlled force upwards. Try both handles and see if one side is tighter.
