How To Fix Scotts broadcast spreader cable and repair Turfbuilder Edgeguard DLX Spreader. I show how to repair broken cables, fix the edgeguard mechanism, add axle collars, and basically explain everything you never wanted to know about how a Scotts Turfbuilder Edgeguard DLX rotary broadcast spreader works (or doesn't). Scotts should consider selling replacement parts for their spreaders so people don't toss them into a landfill every time something breaks. Until then, I'll have to come up with creative ways to keep my 10 year old "deluxe" model dispensing Scotts lawn care products. I'm not going to spend another $100 on a lame spreader (BTW - I tried the ELITE and it broke during my first use). I may upgrade the plastic wheels on my DLX with no-flat tires so stay tuned!

I bought one, but I ended up having lines of fertilizer noted in my yard because the application spinner is below the wheels so it throws it into the wheels and land straight down so we have two lines of fertilizer feed in your lawn. I didn’t like it.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The DLX isn't a great spreader by any stretch. I find that if I walk very quickly the product clears the top of the wheels better. Some product still gets stuck in the hollow wheels, which is why I plan on replacing them once I figure out a solution.

@@BruceAlanR have you considered using expandable spray foam to fill the cavities on the inside of the wheels. i bet one can used for window seals would do the trick

My scotts spreader is very similar to the one you are rebuilding. Although mine is working, it has become difficult to push. Any ideas on what needs to be done to help it be easirr to push? TIA

I’ve had that happen before and the issue was the “wings” on the axle weren’t centered inside the gearbox. Basically, if the gearbox is out of alignment it’s harder to push. Adding axle collars will keep the gear properly centered on the axle. If you’ve been forcing the gearbox to spin off center, worst case would be the gears inside are now out of alignment. Try flipping the spreader over like I have it in the video and repositioning the gear box to see if it spins easier in a specific position. If so, add axle collars so it stays put. Would also be a good idea to remove the wheels, axle, gear, and impeller and give them all a good cleaning with soap and warm water (wear gloves). Things may simply be gunked up.
